[Innova] Innova KATANA

Got my Katana!

Took pics but left my USB cable at work; will upload them tomorrow.

Honestly, I am strugling to find a difference between it and my R Pro Boss as far as looks go. Took a picture of that as well.

i will be getting one just cause i like to try all the new ones as they come out...i doubt i will like it though from what im reading....and in reply to a ton of posts bashing young players with high speed discs, im 23 and have been playing about 2 years and can toss my boss, groove, and destroyer pretty well (although i didnt jump right into high speed discs, i started out with cheetahs, valkyries, eagles, and sharks)...so dont knock on everyone with a boss, but i do know what you mean i have seen some new guys who cant throw very hard/far with any combo of the three previously mentioned discs at the same time...whatever floats their boat i guess...im sure they heard from someone "its the best" or "goes the farthest", i cant blame someone who is getting into the sport with little knowledge of it to try and get the best equipment...they just dont understand the game yet and will most likely figure out soon enough those discs are not right for them. when i see someone out there like that i simply say "hey man, try this disc" and let them throw one from my bag and when they are suprised at how well they tossed it i tell them where to get one online for cheap. anything to help someone else enjoy the game and play better. i also carry around a few dx discs in the car to hand out when i feel it is necessary. plus, the groove was advertised as the "boss for the rest of us" when it was initially released so that can be pretty misleading to a noob who wants to start throwing big D. just my 2 cents...

I feel for you kpc2004.
I've seen newer players that buy discs that are way too fast for them (Boss, Groove, Wraith) and they end up throwin a flex on every shot just to get any distance. Give them a disc more their speed and they flip/anhyzer everything.
I've seen a few people quit in frustration.

If Innova wants to make another long distance, power driver more power to them. If you don't want the disc don't buy it and if there is a hole in their lineup that you want filled say what it is and go complain to Innova. The fact is they have a solid line of discs that fill almost all voids in a player's game if they want to make a big turnover disc for big arms why not?

I totally agree with you on this. I am trying to figure out why some people thinking giving people options is a bad thing. No one is forcing them to buy these new discs. If they do not have a need for a particular disc, that is fine. There is probably someone out there that could fit it into their game though. Innova is already pretty solid on fairway drivers, midranges and putters so they do not need to work on this area as much. As new advances in technology and plastics allow for faster discs, obviously this untapped area will be where they focus most of their development areas.

In regard to the Katana itself, I have found that it does have some turnover in it. Since it is brand new, it still has enough stability to keep it from flipping over. Once broken in, it should act a lot like a high speed Sidewinder as Dave D. already suggested.

lets here more about the disc... mine didnt ship until today and I am getting an R-Pro and a Pro... though I am probably going to hang up the pro because it was in a limited color...

Anyways... i've gotten "looks like a boss" and "stable enough to keep it from flipping over"

Does it flip up well? Can you count on it to flex back?

Sorry for crappy Blackberry camera. I need a good camera I guess since when I ask my fiance to use hers for something disc golf she laughs at me and says "No, dork!"

Cant really tell from the edge picture of the 2 because the angle makes the R-Pro look more low-profile but really, it is very, very minimal the difference.

The Katana, the edge is maybe a hair thicker and I think, while neither of them have much of a bead, I think the katana rises slightly less.

I got my Pro Katana in and threw it and I feel like it is the easiest distance out there. I was barely throwing it and it was going a mile with big s curves. I completely agree that it is a Sidewinder on steroids, and it will flip if overthrown but if you can throw 300 i really believe you can use this disc.

300' max D or 300' golf D?

If I am throwing in a wide open field, I can crank out a 300' drive but it is going to be wild, so I have more or less settled for around 260' with control.

Id say both, i think it is a more beginner friendly disc then the Boss or Groove (that crazy lip wasn't the easiest thing to get used to). It shares a lot of the same qualities of a Sidewinder just longer.

I'll give mine a practice throw hopefully this Saturday, weather permitting. I still am expecting to work into it more but would not be against it having some sort of use early.

Mine is Pro as well. I wonder if anyone is actually going to throw their champ one. Looked too pretty to me to be throwing. lol

I have a Champ Blem (like an xout lots of bubbles in the rim) coming and ill probably throw that one unless it just looks totally sweet.
