Finnish putting game

I'd donate as well. I'm sure quite a few folks on here would at least throw a few bucks your way to help with your time and such.

I guess the problem is that who would you donate to, as this is clearly a group effort?

-Me, who made the game rules and excel spreadsheet
-Tumi, who made the first app
-Iloreplica, who made the "official app" with long term stats
-Two cups who made the newest app with multiplayer

I am guessing everyone of us made these for fun, without expecting any compensation. So just have fun with it, spread the word and enjoy your putting!

Got in 5 games before dark last night. Thanks to all involved, this is a great practice/learning tool.

Something that occurred to me last night that might be cool, I was wondering what everyone thought...being able to track a percentage of 1st putts made.

I feel like it would be useful to know how often I'm making the 1st putt each round. Like maybe a box you check (or don't) before you enter the rounds # of made putts? Something like that.

I tried playing this yesterday at my local 9 hole course but it was 32ºF with swirling 30-45mph winds. I luckily hit 3-5 from 10m (metric meters are a LOT longer than I expected I brought out a tape measure). And then the frigid winds hit, it was bad enough to where even 5m and 6m was a challenge.

I quit mid game then decided... Ok OK, now I'm going to start over REALLY GOING TO CONCENTRATE! Putt from 10m went 15ft into the air then 20ft and sailed behind me.

I'm going to try playing for real tomorrow.

Thanks for the web/browser application though! I can't wait to try it for reals weather permitting.

That's an interesting thought. You don't get any warm up throws during a live round, so the first throw is most important. I am guessing that the first throw from each station is missed more often than subsequent throws.

Another great idea - in all putting games I do I like to think to put a bit more pressure o making that first one, the first is the must make the others are the muscle memory putts

I tend to miss my third and fourth shots. i lose concentration on the third and then over compensate on the 4th and muscle it. I think 1st,2nd and 5th would be my most made putts.

This is my thought, that first one each time is the "one that really counts" so to speak. Tracking it would maybe be a way to see about improving the "pressure putt" stats. (Also, I was thinking about the "1025" putting game app that has a thread on here, that gives a couple bonus points for hitting the 1st and last putt each round...? I don't know how I feel about going that far, but it's a thought.)

Speaking of 'pressure putts', I had a game last night where, after 19 rounds, I sat at 479, with the last round coming from 8 m. Really wanted to break 500 on one of the games last night.

So, I only needed 3 of 5 from 8m to get there, and right now my 'last 5' stats I'm 68% from 8....proceeded to miss all 5. :|

Yup, totally agree, done for the good of the sport and a bit of fun

Protip: If you want to emphasize the first putt, use only 4 discs and give double score for the first disc.

Other option is to reset your position after every throw. (Do a push-up, spin around or whatever in between)

Good idea on emphasizing scoring on the 1st that way.

I've thought about resetting completely each through, but sadly, I'm a lazy American and can't get myself to do it. :\

If you guys are interested in putting extra weight (or score) on first/last putts to create the idea of added pressure, take a look at Perfect Putt 360. It's a similar game with multiple putts from five stations. Points are adjusted based on making the first and last in a series and bonus points are awarded for making ten in a row...

2 rounds at lunch, gloriously sunny but a slight head/cross wind which saw my first visits to the 5 m station and embarrassingly it wasn't 100% from there...:
493
5m 80%
6m 100%
7m 80%
8 m 45%
9 m 53%
10 m 70%

515 points
5m 100%
6 m not visited
7 m 80%
8 m 64%
9 m 57%
10 m 47 %

Getting better - I lost the earlier data in the web app so am going to start transferring to the excel sheet to be on the safe side.

I really love this game!

Which web app? In case of jyly.altervista.org I'd really like to know what, how, why and when? Any updates - where? Could this be residuals from the datastructure update - was this the first time for you using the app with the score strings showing in the stats?

This Finnish Putting Game I believe is more stressful/challenging than the 1025 type game. EVERY putt influences how many points you score THIS round AND NEXT round! It's frustrating trying to improve score in this one. You're not guaranteed to putt from anywhere but the 5m mark.

I get 5 putts. 1st - in, good. 2nd - missed Crap that's 9m. 3rd - missed CRAP that's 8m.... Miss 3 putts in ONE round, you've lost 45 points off of 1000! (30 points from 3 missed, plus next round Max score is 35) You gotta Earn that try at 50 points from 10m, you don't wait for the long putts to make up the score.

I'm so frustrated at the pressure that sometimes I pull back and drive the last putt  no drywall dents yet...

Haha, I recognize this feeling for sure (part of why I put toward a chain link fence, away from the house. Another good learning tool...being able to putt methodically when you're pi**ed.

Agreed. I've tried 1025 in the past and didn't feel that engaged. The fact that each putt affects the next round and just the variety based on how you are doing is a big attraction for me. Hopefully I can stick this one out as a daily warmup.

And.....on a postive note - just put up my best round to date:

517 (first time over 500)

5M - NA :)
6M - NA :) (first time this has happened ever)
7M - 12/25 Below average - and I annoyingly had a 3 round string of straight 2s to stay at 7M.
8M - 31/45 (well above average)
9M - 6/10 (above average)
10M - 11/20 (well above average)

So - never worse than 2/5. All but 1 distance above average. Definately a win.

Love this game.

I may try that and play with four.

I already make myself reset between every putt, it makes my scores a touch lower, but is more applicable to the course.

I mark which tee I am at with a mini (I have flags in the ground at home, but still use a mini) and leave a chair with my putters on it a couple meters to the side of my lie so I have to reset each putt. I also leave it back and to the side of the 9 and 10m tees so its a longer walk from the short tees.

First time playing

10m 2-10 20% 20
9m 8-20 40% 72
8m 19-30 63% 152
7m 16-25 65% 112
6m 12-15 80% 72
5m 0-0 N/A

TOTAL : 428
