[Innova] Colossus

There are a multitude of options for the rec golfer (women, teens and older players as you say). They are not the ones buying every new disc offering. Most casual rec golfers just carry a few discs and there are plenty of options available. The serious golfer is the one buying the discs and most can handle higher speeds and more stability just fine. I don't understand why you think rec golfers need more discs? It's apparent that Innovas target buyer is the more serious golfer.

I'm sure I'll be parting with a few of my hard earned dollars to try one of these.

So what you are saying is only the "serious golfer" is the one these high speed discs are for? And so golfers that don't have the arm to throw these high speed discs are not serious golfers? I'm sorry to to say but there are some serious golfers that play and don't have the arm to throw much over a speed 10 disc. Also in regards to Innovas target buyer being the more serous golfer.. well you could then go on and say that this must be the case for the other manufactures as well. As they are all getting on the high speed stable disc band wagon. I guess we are being fed that we are all pro level disc golfers and I guess most disc golfers seem to think they are pro because people keep buying these types of discs. To me I see this a flaw with our sport. But this another topic for another time.

I will say I do like Innova discs and own mostly Innova products.

Look. Innova could give a **** about what demographic is buying their discs. They'll simply produce what sells. Let's face it, fast wide rimmed drivers sell like hotcakes. Even to new players who know nothing about the game. Everyone and their brother lugs a Destroyer or a Boss around the course.

It's about the $$. Innova isn't going to necessarily cater to newbs.

So the argument "they aren't producing enough discs for beginners" is moot. Innova makes so many models of drivers and mids that there isn't any conceivable way that a beginner can't find something in the lineup that suits them.

If Innova wants to push the envelope and produce lightning fast drivers as thin as saw blades, fine. They'll have to or they'll lose market share to other companies who are already producing such discs.

Seems like competition to the cannon to me. Both very high speed, both understable at high speed, both overstable at low speed, both start with the letter c....

I hope this disc is better than the dominator! What a massive flop that thing was! Even the groove gets more action years after its release.

Dunno about that. I have a Blizzard Dominator, and I also was watching some other players throw on a hole adjacent to where I was. One disc flew very near me, and when I looked at it after it landed I saw that it was a Blizzard Dominator. They're out there and being used; they're just not the "sexy" molds like the Destroyer and Boss are....

It seems what makes the Boss, Destroyer, and Wraith sexy/iconic is that their flight numbers are the same, with the exception of the speed rating. (xx 5 -1 3)

Yeah this is a Cannon/King competitor.

True. And the pros prefer them. Of course, there's the X,5,-1,2 set that gets too little love: Krait, TeeDevil, Dominator, etc. Paul McBeth did give the Krait some exposure, of course. I really like the Blizzard Krait (very straight, then dump fade) and Blizzard Dominator (I get more distance out of it than my Blizzard Boss), though I've reined it in a bit on bagging the 12+ speed discs. Waves and Terns are what I'm maxing out with as of this writing...

I'd rather throw a Groove than a Dominator. Dominator just seemed sluggish and slow. No glide and a hard fade. I wasn't getting much distance out of it at all. The Groove isn't a ton better. Horribly inconsistent disc to disc and it lacks glide.

I agree 100%, both the Groove and Dominator are garbage. Innova needs to OOP both molds immediately.

Never seen a Dominator at Dicks but based on the name and large rim, they would likely sell like hot cakes if any newbie saw one at a retail store. Hell the Groove is still a hot seller because of its unique rim.

The Groove is junk, but it's interesting junk that sells to the masses. Kind of like the Kardashians.

Everyone knows it's terrible but someone out there is buying it.

The Dominator is equally bad, but is also so boring that most people are surprised that it was ever made in the first place and the ones who did know are shocked it isn't dead yet.

I'll try one of these out, sounds like a pretty long disc.. slightly more stable tern

I was excited to try the Dominator. Based on the numbers it sounded like a great disc. Uh... not the case. I have a nice blizzard 168 and it's a crappy driver. It's clunky. Not even in the same zip code as the Boss in terms of speed or glide.

And yeah, the Groove sucks. Innovative I suppose, but a failure overall. Never glided well enough to be useful.

If Innova can produce a 14 speed disc with a thin profile that flies like a slightly (and I mean slightly) less stable Boss, I'll be interested. The Daedalus already seems to fit that slot though.

I agree with you about that atrocity known as the Groove, and it's cousin the Monarch, as well.

I do NOT agree about the Dominator. I like my Blizzard Dominator. It comes *FAST* out of my hand, giddy-ups downrange with good glide as well as high speed, and goes further than my Blizzard Boss for me. I like my Blizzard Boss, too, but the Dominator is great. That's my story, I'm sticking to it, and I think I'll put the Dominator in my bag and throw it today just for the heck of it. :p

I do agree about the Daedalus and the Colossus... I suspect they will be very similar discs. I'll also venture the prediction, based upon the DD Freedom's not really being more than a Speed-13 disc, is that the Colossus is not going to give anyone anything more than the Daedalus gives them. Maybe a Lizotte or Wysocki can get a different result, but IMHO those powerful professionals are about the only ones who will see any realistic difference between the Colossus and Speed-13 discs.

Time will tell...

The last time I went to a few big box stores a few weeks ago and looked at their discs, there were 0 Grooves. There were some Monarchs, but I definitely didn't see any Grooves and I can't remember seeing a lot of Dominators either although there might have been 1.

I've seen Grooves and Monarchs in PIAS stores as well as "big box" stores. I have not seen any Dominators in any of these stores at all; I ordered mine from the proshop. Then again, I've seen very few if any TeeRexes, maybe one TeeDevil, very few XCals, and no Monsters (that'll change, though, when McBeth's name appears on them).

I'm willing to give Innova the benefit of the doubt on high speed easier to throw. That's what Discraft managed to magically pull off with the Crank SS being a high speed driver for noodle arms like myself. Just being optimistic about it I suppose. The comparison is still speed 12 to 14, but Crank SS was aimed at noodle arms, while this just seem aimed at small hands, not necessarily low power players.

Can you compare the Crank SS to the Nuke SS?

The Groove is like pop country music. Absolutely horrible and an embarrassment to the genre, yet a big seller to the clueless masses. If people weren't buying it, Innova would stop making it.
