[Innova] DX Wolf opinions

that spider glide of 3 was pretty beautiful just a brick style disc

regardless of glide i would rather have almost all innovas putters in a beat dx condition than a dx wolf in any condition and flight of the beat putter will be close enough the same of the wolf

I know what you mean, I would rather use a DX Stingray either more beat 180 gram in or a 175 gram disc new then a Wolf but I almost never use a disc that is US for my approach shot. The Wolf seems so specific as a turnover approach to approach putter disc that I could find other discs to do that same shot and more for me, Stingray was almost this disc but it is not good in the wind and The Wolf is even worse for me.

stingrays are super fun to throw

The thing with turnover discs is the a stable disc beat to understable is always* more consistent than a disc designed to be understable out of the box. Understable out of the box discs tend to be squirrelly, where beat to understable discs tend to be more consistent in flight.

Which is the same argument people like me make for cycling; that stable disc you beat to understable is going to be more consistent than an out of the box understable disc.

BUT...that leaves new players, players that only throw premium plastic that takes forever to break in and/or players that don't throw often enough to beat something in looking for discs that will approximate the shots guys that cycle get from their beat to understable discs. Which is where a disc like the Wolf comes in. It's not going to be as good a roller as a beat Cobra and it's not going to be as good a turnover approach disc as a beat Aviar P&A. If you don't have a beat Cobra and/or a beat Aviar P&A and you are not interested in beating a Cobra and/or an Aviar P&A into that slot, it's I guess an option. It's a crappy option, but an option.

*Yeah, I know, it's just, like, my opinion, man.

Premium plastics were in the early stages when I first went to a store a Play it Again in Rapid City South Dakota that sold discs in mid 2004 and got all baseline discs or a Putter the G9i Wizard in a plastic that is like stiff KC Pro. I did not feel the premium plastic was worth it at the time as DX and Pro D were as stiff as Pro at the time. Understable is fine for slow midrange disc as I used a Stingray for years and would have worked fine if the wind over 5-7 mph did not easily affect the disc on anything other then tailwind, turn over was not what the disc did but rather it did an micro S shot that was something that I can do with my Valkyrie molds. A more consistent option is to take a faster super understable midrange or super slow fairway almost midrange disc and use that disc for the midrange turn over shot right from the beginning. If you want the turnover shot from a slow midrange disc, then get a faster putter that is super understable as then you can control the disc better in slow speeds during the approach shots and the very short midrange option.

Yeah but when you live in an area where wind is fighting at 10 mph or more 90% of the time then yeah you would be needing to find something else for approach and true midrange. The Stingray ended up as hook right disc 5 feet off the drive/midrange shot in winds at least 7 mph and up.

Completely agree.
This is a big reason I throw what I throw and why just months ago I bought my first ever Leopard but in pro plastic.

throw slower and moar spin

Did and the mold just floated like it was a very slow mold of disc golf disc like a Sonic for me or the DGA Steady Ed special plastic discs like the Gumputt molds or the Blowfly and II molds in terms of speed then. Slower was not the problem as the Stingray mold for me can't be thrown all that hard or the Stingray flies out to the right on me. No I needed to be able to fight the wind with the disc, something with the mold that does not fit my playing style even more so with wind 15 mph and beyond. I can get a DX Dragon to fight in wind better then the Stingray for me. I think it is the amount of US combined with the slow speed for midrange that makes it hard to throw such a disc for me.

As someone who likes the wolf I must say that I like the tremor even more. Tremor is the ultimate standstill disc. I still like the wolf but don't bag one as the Tremor powers down well.

The Tremor is not near as flippy as a Wolf, also the Tremor will hold its flight path longer being in Proline plastic and not in base plastic DX for production run like a Wolf is.

Tremor has similar stability at same weight in my experience but has higher distance potential due to better glide.

Tremor is more of a tweener driver/mid rather than a true mid.

Yeah I thought that was the mold they used to base the Impact or the Glide off of in terms of flight path replication but I am not 100% on this. I know a person who used the Tremor mold before he used the Impact for a while, now he uses the DX or KC Pro ROC in multiple stages of wear. He used before a Champion ROC, might still have that one or two in the bag if he still uses that USDGC flat top ROC or if he is using a Champion ROC 3 now for one of the two Champion molds of ROC.
