Tightest fairways

Idlewild...

Hole D: Mando right and a pond right behind it. Yes there is bailout to the left passed the mando but it still an intimidating shot.

Mid fairway ho5 if you punch through a gap from the tee your left with this, nearly straight uphill, fairway shot.

Hole 6 well do I need to post 5 different pics of this snake? See for yourself.

8 Didn't post pic of the gnarly uphill approach shot with multiple guardian trees.

You get the idea. Click the link above to see the rest. 9 is a shorty with a 10'(maybe) wide fairway. 10 is a 600' tunnel shot with a 90 degree dogleg. 11 is the KY gap. 12 is a tough tight 200fter. 13 when playing long basket is a nightmare. 14 is just stupid in the long uphill and tight. Yay we're on 15 its wide open 1000fter! but if you throw off the fairway in the summer you got 8ft high weeds. 16 is kinda stupid also. 17 is a fair, tight hole. 18 is 600+ tightish straight and a blind tee shot over a knob. The place just beats you down...

For reference, at the Nati Big 3 tourney this year, open played 24 longs and the best round was 83(1009 rating). I shot 73(891) on 18shorts.

I've played Idlewild. There's some intimidating holes, but I wouldn't classify any of the fairways as super tight when compared to stuff in here. The hole in the first pic wasn't all that tough. We had a group of 7, and 6 people hit the gap, and the other was too dumb to realize it was a mando.

Hole d is a tough tee shot but not as tough as that picture makes it seem.

Hole 5 is a straight pain in the ssa. One of the the most punishing holes I think I have ever played.

Yes there are wide(ish) fairways on the some of the woods holes. And hole D is a hole I expect to deuce but that doesn't mean I haven't added 3 or 4 discs to that pond. The front side of the course almost leads into a false sense of security with the letter holes. but once you get past hole F that place is beast. Are there tougher courses out there, yea but this place is just a rec players nightmare.

Freitag #4, 465', and the entire fairway looks like this picture:

Hole 6, 480', same the whole way down:

Most of the course looks just like this. I wish there were pictures of the back 9 on here. It just never lets up.

I learned real quick mids, putters and fairways are your best friend in the woods. I tried throwing my high speed stuff during a round at my first highly wooded course, was miserable. Played it again using mids and putters more than anything and had a much, much better round. After that, love me some wooded courses.

Playing in/around Charlotte- I go above a speed 7 maybe 2-3 times in a round. Unless it's renny gold.

Around here there are 2 local courses that are always busy and populated. There's 1 in a small city, a solid 18 hole course but its heavily wooded and gets muddy very easily. Once it clears up I'm gonna put in a lot of time out there in the cedars. I feel like it helps develop a good short game and really forces me to learn shots.

In general the tightest fairways I have played as I take into consideration all the courses in a given area were in Charlotte, NC.

There was one hole at Hornets Nest that was tight all the way and pinched at about 200 ft out to about 1.5 ft wide. Or at least it felt that way at the time. I am guessing with the course closed and being redesigned that it might not be there any more.

If I had the memory to place a certain hole on a certain course, I would have hundreds to add to this discussion. But, I don't remember. So, the course I will suggest that nobody else will is Bald Eagle, from the long tees. If no single hole stands out as being the tightest (2 and 8 come to mind), it's nearly every hole that has a pin point line that must be hit, and yet I feel they are nearly all fair. Though hole 8's line to the basket is so tight I would consider it unfair, there is the safe shot of laying up to the short pad and getting up and down from there. Hole 9 might be considered the 'tightest' though it's more of a poke and hope (I haven't decided what I will do with it yet, I have lots of ideas, but in its current formation it's brutal).

Then of course there's Golden Eagle, most holes of which could be included in this discussion. Maybe not holes 1 or 2, but for sure 3, 4 and 5. Oh and 6 from the longest configuration that I used in the tourney last fall was brutal, though not the tee I usually play. And hole 7 has a very tight window.

I guess I have a preference for tight lines.

Hawks landing in Eden,NY has some pretty tight fairways, though none of the holes are over like 250.

Bluegill hole #3 is called the bowling alley and it is insanely tight. OB on both sides sometimes during tournaments makes it easy to take 6s and 7s. Getting a 3 on it during a round is a great feat. I was lucky enough , during warm ups for the second round of dawg days, to ace it with an aviar. It was my first ace and it was purely by luck. I will never forget that hole.

Hole 3 at Loch Ness in Blaine. There really is no fairway, especially when the leaves are on the trees.

There is tight and then there is tight and overgrown with zero maintenance which is just stupid. That Freitag might be a nice course in winter.

The bushes just make it look worse. The trees are far worse. Even in the winter, it's brutal.

The best thing about that course, is it's set in a pohunk town kinda near nothing. You pull in the park, and there's an open pavilion with about 6 1970's refrigerators. Old ass metal playground equipment. They don't bother locking anything, because nobody ever goes to the town (calling it a town is generous). It's basically where the 1980's decided to set up shop and never leave.

Tinicum #7 373ft. the picture on here isn't straight on, so it doesn't look as bad as it really is. It may be 8 feet wide, but I've never measured. Locals still say "Climo shot an 8" when they don't do well, in reference to his round here at 2005 worlds. not sure if he really did snowman, but it makes people happy to think he did.

Immediately thought of this hole when while reading this thead. Kudos on acing that! :hfive:
Most decent courses have one or two needle threaders (although not many take it to ^this extreme), but there's a big difference between a course with a few tight holes and a course that's basically comprised of nothing but.

Still stand by my earlier statement that collectively: Summit is the tightest set of fairways I can recall.
