Adidas sponsors Paul McBeth

I get it's a big brand name, but doesn't Keen sponsor Doss? Is this really earth-shattering?

I mean, good for him, it's awesome, but....

I think the "earth-shattering"-ness of it is the size of the brand name. According to Forbes, Adidas is one of the 100 biggest brands in the world (#83 in 2015).

No slight to Keen intended, but Adidas could probably buy them 10 times over. For those of us looking for greater exposure and more outside money coming into the sport, that they're getting involved at all is a big deal.

I would be willing to bet it is just shoes and no dough. Has their ever been a sponsor who has forked over some serious money for a dger-certainly not.

Not until that money will warrant brand identity and adoption by the masses to justify such expenditures.

Great pick up for him.

I really though he'd get Red Bull fully onboard as his first big 'mainstream' sponsor but Adidas is a huge score.

I tend to believe there is some cash involved as well, certainly not a lot of money but maybe $25,000 -$50,000 range. Which is basically chump change for Adidas considering the insane amounts spent on Basketball stars. Would be smart money buying in on the low for a 4 time champion and brand new market.

Yup. Keen's annual sales in 2011 were approx $240M. Adidas were $13,320M. So Adidas is 50X the size of Keen.

Cool News! I'm running out to buy some Sambas right now! :D

I've been rocking those Adidas trail running shoes since last season. They are fantastic. Super hardcore tread, light weight, water resistant and they hold up to a beating. Played from March until December in them, and they still look new ish.

I'm gonna get accused, yet again, of thread drift, but I literally have to scrub the bottoms clean off before they separate in any meaningful way. The ones I have are butt ugly though.

I also think it's interesting to note that Adidas was Nike's whipping boy for years, and now they are challenging them in numerous markets.

Wowzas. That's great for him. How many pairs of shoes does he go through in a season?

He likely gets a $ allotment each year to spend on clothing, shoes, luggage, etc., a salary (probably similar to am skaters for Nike) and incentives for wins. The allotment is $5k - $20k most likely which is nearly impossible to fully spend each year even if you give some merchandise to friends and family. Not sure of Nike and Adidas now but in the past sponsored athletes, coaches, etc. were given access to a website with a special login with many items not available to the public yet. The prices were really inflated compared to retail but free with the allotment. Under Armour does not do it the same way as you go on their public website and order items at the retail cost.

We're talking about Adidas! It's cool.

And I agree. Mine are horrific, but I love them because of that.
Bright,safety yellow and blue.

Thats great for Paul and a big step for the Pro's. The next thing that popped into my head is Adidas sponsoring a big tourney.

That's a pretty great deal for McBeth, he'll probably get other cool Addidas gear like shorts, shirts, socks, hair color... ;)

Fair enough. I'm not much of a grow the sporter, so...¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I like the shoes Paul has been using, they don't make them 14wide for me doe...
