Disc market over saturation?

It's been oversaturated for a while now. Next is tournament saturation. High entry fees for average C-tiers. It's already started.

When a market becomes saturated, prices go down, not up. We will know when the tournament market is saturated when the entry fees start to go down.

BTW - I run 10+ sanctioned tournaments a year in a market that already has other tournament promoters.

Basket manufacturing should be included in this as well...

Seriously dude, now you're just flat out blowing smoke. How many baskets does MVP / (whatever that company name is, I can't tell because their website is down) have? I think 5? All in one year too.

Did I exclude them from that question? Geez dude why the MVP hate? I actually agree that they also have added to the too many baskets problem...

Not if the demand is also increasing at the same time... ergo the micro brew example.
Eventually all bubbles burst, though, and PBR is always available just as Dx always will be.

I think there is a definite a saturated market place on all fronts(discs, bags & targets).

But people will still buy a Not a "Roc" or Not a "comet" and tell you how great it is and you should stop throwing a Roc or Comet and try the imitator cause its better.

If the demand is also increasing, then the market has not reached saturation.

I came off a little harsh. With your avatar and the question, it appeared to be a leading question for argument.

As a predominantly Innova thrower, I too will concede there is definitely a 'new release' hype to simply push sales for the manufacturer. However, as a dealer or TD, if the hot new thing doesn't sell out right away, you're stuck with it for quite awhile.

I have been meaning to change that avatar... After all the popcorn I posted and I don't even throw the soft proxy, lol. By the time it came out my reg proxy had gotten into that awesome tacky phase. But I keep one in my trunk , just in case.

As far as the saturation goes, I just hope the market stabilizes not backlashes...

Also, I can see that someone who throws a predominately MVP bag bringing up this topic might ruffle some feathers. It was not my intention, I was just asking the question. They have certainly added to this problem(if it is a problem) with 5 plastic types and a couple dozen new discs, plus IMO unneeded bags and targets. I do like the Champ level basket they came out with and while the tourney shoulder bag they came out with is a nice bag, with many many people switching over to backpack style bags it was not needed.

What a stupid ass thread. More disc golf "stuff" is being sold vs ever before and entire companies have been built from the ground up with the growth from retailers to disc makers and e everything inbetween.

Talk about ignorant... Pretty sad people dont see this as a good thing vs negative.

new things are bad :(

I think a lot of people owe us collectively, as a sport, an apology for contributing to the future. That's mighty disrespectful of the past and our hard fought routines of comfortable sameness.

Choice is a problem?

Did either of you two actually read the OP? I am actually concerned for those people that try to give us new innovations for our game and the ramifications of what would happen to somebody that spends a couple hundred thousand dollars on 4-8 brand new disc molds without already having a market share to support it.

Umm wut? Who cares if they make it great if not so be? We dont even have a big enough market to worry about oversaturation.... If a company can tap into new female DGs welp talk about $$$.

If you build a brand like Salient regardless of the biz industry welp.... You make no sense in this thread.

MVP went about this the right way. They started slow by releasing a few discs over a several year period. Then when they got their market share they went for it, bigly and by all accounts they are flourishing. And I am glad for it, I love their discs.

Dynamic also did it right. They built a customer base and then went for it.

I dont think you even understand the concept of an oversaturated market.

There are people who have no idea disc golf is even a thing. You make it sound like we are trying to deal in major appliances or some **** lol.

Its pretty easy to grasp the concept. I was asking if there is an oversaturation and the consequences for a start up company, not stating that there is one.
