Hey everyone. I'm sure this has been asked, but I cant find anything. Maybe for good reason?! (sorry if this is a dumb question)

Are there some general equivalencies between any of the Discmania and Innova discs?

I have a mostly Innova and Discraft bag, but would like to check out some Discmania discs and don't want to "duplicate" anything I might already own...

I really enjoy Star plastic for most of my drivers, and Star or Champion for my mids.

I also don't have a huge arm, so I'm throwing mostly 167-171g drivers (169 Wraith is my longest disc at the moment, as well as a 170'ish) Discraft Thrasher which turns over quite a bit but on wide open holes it's giving me same disftance as my Wraith). If there are no direct or generally accepted "equivalents" between the two brands, can anyone recommend a good distance driver for me? Also maybe a very overstable mid? I'm mostly RHBH, but can throw RHFH when I need to.

Star=S-Line, Champion=C-Line
some of the discs throw similar b/tw Innova and Discmania, but there is a solid amount of difference. Maybe you can tell us what you currently throw and we can cancel out any Discmania that match what you throw, or maybe tell us what you're thinking of replacing from your bag and we can try and find an equivalent

Innova and Discmania are all but the same company. Innova makes many of the Discmania molds (if not all of them). Innova sells Discmania factory seconds on the Innova Proshop site. S-Line is Star plastic, C-Line is Champion plastic, and so on.

As to overlap, they try not to directly overlap each other, though some discs are close. For example, the Discmania P2 and Innova Aviar are extremely similar, but the P2 is a wee bit more overstable than the Aviar.

none of the discs between the two fly the exact same, but the ones that are similar that i can think of right off the bat are:
XCaliber=PD2
DDx=broken in Destroyer (Supposed to be, i think its similar to a Tern cause it'll flip a little)
DD=Krait
PD=starts off as an OS Thunderbird but beats in to everyone's favorite driver from Discmania
TD2=Roadrunner/Monarch/High Speed US disc
FD3=Firebird
FD2=Teebird with less glide
MD3=Roc/Roc3
MD=Mako
P2=Aviar

I'm sure some of these fly differently for other people, but that's what i've found so far. Hope that helps!

I would argue that the DD is really a Wraith with a bit more stability. Not a Krait.

Discmania is a separately owned company though.

And for clarification, the P2 is more overstable than a PnA Aviar.

It is not more overstable than a Big Bead Aviar, which the P2 is based on, just without the bead.

Their made in the same factory. Here is the plus that I see. Discamania can take a time proven mold and make it better. They combine seperate molds into one new disc.

For example nearly all their molds have a part of an older innova disc. Like the PD has a firebird bottom.

The downside is that this in the box thinking doesn't help for creating a revolutionary product in my opinion.

Jussi is able to save a ton of money on the experimental stage cause he is utilizing all of dave's successes and failures.

Of course everybody forgot the CD2 that is like a cross between a Sidewinder/Valk and a Thunderbird, or in other words the Thunderbird for average arms, I just wish it came in solid S-Line colors.

Chris, from discm sent me two CD2's in swirl. A suggestion of his after talking about what I was trying to find for a competitive slot in my bag.

Great disc but they just didn't make my line up. They were too close to my saints (regular). I suspect this will be the fastest selling disc from their lineup for newbs.

But I have no idea on what to relate the cd2 in the innova line up. Sometimes, I think that we want to itemize, put things in a category to simply are thinking.

So, even though your looking for direct comparisons between innova, and discm actually another manufacture may have a more similar slot to actually place it in.

This sounds interesting. I'm LOVING my S-line DDx, so I'll have to give the CD2 a go.

Very true. I should've made that distinction.

Wow. Thanks for all the info so far guys.

My current bag (some are great discs for me, others not so much due to being way too overstable):

  • Drivers
  • 175g Champ Boss (HA, I know, I know. I don't have the arm, but I never drive with it. It's my get out of the brush/woods thumber disc and I'm DAMN good with it, so it stays)
  • 175g Champ Firebird (way too overstable for most drives. Only gets thrown on severe doglegs.
  • 167g Z Predator (old plastic) - Fairly overstable, and not as much distance as my Wraith).
  • 170g Z Nuke (usually too overstable backhand/not much distance, but I get a nice forehand with it)
  • 170g Z Nuke SS (I get decent distance, but still a little more overstable than I'd like)
  • 167 Star Wraith (my go-to driver)
  • 159(?)g Jade (this disc gets ridiculously flippy if I try to throw it hard, but my oh my does it glide when I throw it nice and easy)
  • 170g Z Thrasher (a little flippy, but I use it for wide-open long gliding drives, and anhyzer backhands)
  • 175g Champ Teebird (LOVE this disc. I'm most accurate when driving with this disc, both RHBH and RHFH. And it almost goes as far as my Wraith/Thrasher.)

    Mids
  • 175 Buzzz (my all-around approach)
  • 175g Z Buzzz OS (hasn't earned a full-time spot yet...)
  • 175g Z Buzzz SS (hasn't earned a full-time spot yet...)
  • 175g Truth (LOVE this disc, but it hasn't earned a full time spot yet...)
  • 179(?)g Champ Roc 3 (my go-to approach disc when I don't have to navigate an obstacle. LOVE this thing. Super straight, not much fade)
  • 179(?)g DX Roc (hasn't earned a full-time spot yet...)
  • 175g Z Drone(when I need lots of stability)

    Putters
  • 175g MVP Anode soft Proton - my main putter. LOVE the understableness(?). Goes right where I throw it
  • 175g Star Aviar (for longer putts I like this one for some reason. More glide maybe?)
  • 175g McPro Aviar (hate it. too hard.)
  • 175g Star Aviar driver (not even sure why I carry this...)

i have a couple of questions about your current bag. 1) if you had to only take 10 out of your 20 current discs, which would they be? I'd maybe start there to find your main bag, and then fill in your empty spots. 2) are you wanting to replace the Discraft discs in your bag? I wasn't really sure what the OP was meant for, although i'm thinking that's what you want. My question would be if you have a lot of these that you aren't sure would already earn a spot in your bag or they are too OS, what is your reasoning behind replacing those if they don't currently work for you? not in anyway trying to be mean or have that come off as looking down on your choices, just trying to figure out how we can help you better

My top 10:
Drivers - Wraith, Nuke SS, Thrasher, Teebird, Jade
Mids - Buzzz, Roc3, Drone
Putters - Aviar, Anode

This is basically all the discs that I throw regularly, and feel most comfortable with.

My original post was really just asking if there were direct equivalent discs between the two brands. Basically, are the Discmania discs just rebranded Innova molds...I see now that's not the case and I figured as much, but had no idea really.

And for someone who doesn't have a super strong arm (but not a beginner by any means), what would be some good discs to try out from Discmania?

1)Would the CD (Control driver) be a good fit for me? And do anything for me that my current lineup of drivers couldn't do for me? Or is the CD basically going to be like my trusty Teebird? (accurate, easy to control, but not as long as a distance driver) Any other easy distance drivers for folks without a rocket arm? (I assume I shouldn't be throwing the PD, PDX, etc. right?)

2)Is there a nice discmania mid that is somewhat between a Buzzz and a Roc/Roc3?

from what you've written, the CD would prob fit in b/tw your thrasher and Teebird. it should act like a longer Teebird, but if you throw that almost as far as the wraith, it might not do much for you currently. is there a certain shot you feel like you're missing with this bag that you're worried about not having? for mids, i have an MD that is supposed to be straight, and it is, but has a small fade to it that might fit in between. i also have an MD1 that holds a solid line and has a small amount of fade. maybe try one of those? i have a Buzzz and an Roc3 and i use a King Cobra/MD1 in between

Thanks for all of this info. It's nice to know how some of these may fit in between some discs I already have.

I don't really feel like I'm missing too much in terms of "shots" I guess. I just feel like my lack of distance is holding me back a lot. I'm working on my form, and I know I'll get there eventually. But if I could just magically find a disc that goes super long and super straight with my medium/slower arm speed, I'd be a happy camper :)
