[Innova] Echo-Star Destroyer Replacement

You can also look at star Wraiths, they feel almost the same. I haven't thrown them enough to see if they are any shorter than Destroyers for me, but whenever I throw them I always think "this is like the stability of Destroyer that I like". Gstar Destroyers are also this stability but I understand that you don't like that plastic. I'm referring to a -1/2 type of flight for throwers in the 360-425' range.

I tried a G-Star for the first time in a while. I hate the feeling but love the flight. It flies like a little more stable echostar right out of the box. I think it's the replacement for the echo as of right now.

Went thru the same dam scenario. Mostly due to the recent star detros being crazy os. I got gstar too flippy, even lighter stars too beef, so on and so on.

If you can figure this one out you are on to something.

The philos are beautiful not to os. They felt a bit to soft for summer play. But will make the bag once the days get shorter for sure.

I received a Phil on Friday, it's a really pretty disc but the plastic is slippery. Like slippery enough for me to notice. I need to put in some more time with it but as of right now, not really a fan, especially for the price.

Maybe they won't get ride of ALL the echo-star stuff but I can say with confidence that you won't be seeing ES Destroyers anytime soon. I've been looking for about two months and nothing...

Well, I think I kind of lost it. I took all my destroyers and did some measurements to find what the "ideal" shape is here are my findings as well as my thoughts on a few of the molds.

DISCLAIMER
This was done at 5,280 feet and by throwing the discs as consistently as possible down a painted line to determine stability. I just did this to try and figure out how to better ID non meat hook destroyers.

I first measured sorted from least, to most OS and then measured the distance from the table to the bottom of the wing off the table in as close to the same spot as could. This is the PLH measurement. I think took a truing bar and a set of calipers to measure the dome of the disc. This is the thickness of the disc from the bottom of the inner rim to the middle of the dome.

Of the two measurements, the dome is the most varying from disc to disc. This is visible when you look at the profile as well.

Almost across the board, the higher the PLH, the higher the stability. I suspect that higher dome also creates more stability as you would think that the Philo would be almost the same or less stable than the Echo but has significantly more dome.

So, next time you're looking for a destroyer and you want to really annoy your local shop, bring your ruler and find one that's <9MM from the table to the bottom of the wing and the flatter the better.

Yeah I would look at Wraiths then, sounds like you enjoy a similar flight out of your Destroyers as I do and also like the rim width (I also don't like super wide stuff). I bet if someone stamped a Wraith as a Destroyer and handed it to me, I wouldn't really tell the difference in flight or feel. It's ever so slightly narrower, but the same type of shape and flight. Also the DD Trespass is in this stability too, but now you're going to a different brand/plastic/mold and I know this is a Destroyer thread.

I have not thrown Destroyers/Wraiths/Trespasses side by side to know which one would go farthest for me. But they are all similar flight shape when comparing with the flat/low PLH star Destroyers or Gstar. I can't imagine there'd be more than 15' difference at my arm speed, and even that much would surprise me.

I've heard good things about Octanes I haven't thrown one though. I have a Mayhem and I really like the flight when I can throw it correctly. I struggle with the speed 13 rim though. It's tough for me to get a good grip on.

I find the Octane more comfortable than the Mayhem. It is a little different at first, but if you find a nice (not so pop topped) Neutron Octane, once it wears in a little bit it just bombs.

QFT. I've had about 8 or so star wraiths in and out of my bag and out the 8, only one had a noticeably different PLH. They seem to be a very consistent mold and they're a reliable bomber.

Sad to hear about echo star going the wayside. Such a great cycle-able plastic for casual/am players. I may have to stockpile some echo wraiths, they don't need much beat to get a good hyzerflip.

But how are the Destroyers sorted? From least to most overstable?

Yes, from least to most to most stable. I did the sorting before the measuring. I pulled the 160 out of the mix because it was so much lighter than the others. The really interesting one was the champ.

I may have to move back to wraiths. I was throwing them for a long time and found that they started to get more of an S flight with similar distance to the *D's which kind of overlapped with my DDX's. the destroyers just go straight for 400+ then fade out. I've also found destroyers to be a little more predictable in the wind.

Any word on the Echo plastic? I see they haven't been producing any but was there an official announcement?
I see the Destroyers are getting crazy expensive.

I believe there was some official word that Echostar for all molds was going OOP.

I wonder if the Splatter Star is the new reincarnation of factory duds. Too bad, Echostar was a great blend.

This is the only conclusion that anyone hear has come to, that makes sense. Pros and GStars just don't break in the same way.

On a side note anyone know if a 6/10 E*DS is worth selling?

If you're open to trying new things I'd say try a MVP Neutron OCTANE - it flies like a slightly seasoned Star Destroyer - Or go lighter weight for more turn, or Axiom Mayhem for more S shape / more turn than that. Both MAyhem and Octane handle power well and bomb.
