2017 USDGC

As far as live coverage goes, maybe I'd be more excited if these larger events didn't seem to be a victory lap come the final round. It doesn't seem like there have been a lot of down to the wire finishes at the big ones in the last 2 years or so.
I don't recall European Open being like that in years, 2013 and 2017 were particularly exciting. Those two came down to the last putt, and 2015 had some late holes drama as well.

Ugh edit window...

Jerm with a 4 shot lead with Ricky and Nikko chasing. There have been plenty of great final rounds recently. Paul and Barsby came down to the last hole(though I guess this one wasn't live). Ricky's walk off ace. Conrad and Paul lighting up Idlewild the last round.

Go play in Ledgestone and see if you can redeem your am vouchers for anything other than Discraft. That's about as exclusive as it gets...no different than how the USDGC is exclusive to Innova. Lyle was talking about the DGPT being a better platform than USDGC. One tournament is not the same thing as an entire tour series. The DGPT has events within its tour that are exclusive to one particular manufacturer...no different than the USDGC. He was comparing apples to oranges.

Now a manufacturer having exclusivity to an event and anybody purchasing advertising space during a broadcast is again apples to oranges. Innova is a premier partner of the DGPT...aka they support both sides of the DGCR imagined tour rivalry.

Let me point out that you're correct, my bad. What I meant to write is DGWT vs DGPT. USDGC nicely sums what happens in DGWT.

The discussion hasn't been a merch one, but frankly, Ledgestone has taken more on the chin for being exclusively Discraft than USDGC has for being innova. Again, no one raised that point till now and I'd like to drop it since it isn't relevant.

The point at hand is live coverage, bang for your buck, and how the topic is discussed. I don't think I'm on a thin limb when I point out that Steve has done a better job than Jussie. It's hard to know whether that's rules followed, Steve makes his own, and Jussie has to follow Innova wishes, or personality.

For sure, Steve handles the controversies that we internet trolls raise quite well. Harold does too. Jussie seems to magnify them. Some because he mis speaks, some appear to be control issues. "We couldn't get video done because I didn't have the time." Quoted last year. This year, he had time.

The misstatements combined with what's happened serve to make Jussie look bad. I agree with you. He's not Darth Vader, more like Anikin. :D

That leaves us with a discussion of live coverage. It's merits vs full control. I think Steve has it right and DGWT doesn't. Simple enough.

Ledgestone had 691 Am players getting players pack and payout (of Discraft items), USDGC does not.

Is there no longer s livestream that isn't on Facebook

What's up with the tee times? Sexton is on second card despite shooting well enough and having a PDGA number low enough to be on top card? Looking further down there are other people that are also strangely mis-matched like that. Did they do a descending PDGA number order to sort ties (highest number first)?

edit- doesn't look like it's sorted by PDGA number in any way. What is going on?

I heard eventually PDGA was going to change tie breakers to something like starting at hole 18 who had last honors, but yea this is wonky.

Hole 2, 4th easiest? 4th in # birdies 5th in relation to par.

As I suggested before the event, still think those poles stop more bad shots than increase putting difficulty. The poles actually increase putting efficiency, IMO. Personally I putt better when the basket is framed by an obstacle.

There is even video of a player throwing a bad putt that redirects off a pole into the basket.

We had a problem with the sorting of ties yesterday evening. When wanted to fix the sort, but the tee times had already been posted. At that time it felt safer to go with the originally posted tee times than to create possible confusion with a second set.

Thanks for the update. I have a couple buddies playing and they were very confused but they said they will just show up to their posted tee times.

Harold, you said that you were taking notes for next year. Here are some suggestions that I think would help out with the event.

1. More Monday information on qualifying.
2. Some coverage of distance competition & Big Masher (if it is happening)
3. More frequent updating of scoring. Having the 3 or 4 tents seems very out of date now that we see UDisc updating it after every hole. We have grown spoiled.

Wishlist (tough and resources needed)
4. I would like to see more interviews after rounds with current leaders as they come off the course. These can be put right to FaceBook.
5. Chase card next day coverage.

This is just as repetitive as the retees on hole 17...

In business a decision is made with a certain logic and expected outcome. There's absolutely nothing wrong with sticking to your initial decision...you made it in the first place for a certain reason. You may not agree with the logic, and you're entitled to disagree.

But acting like the dude is the dg root of all evil is just silly.

Just to note, the original decision of the DGWT was to go all live stream with no edited post-round coverage, and then they flip-flopped to only post-round coverage because of the results/costs of live.

Breaking ties does not have to be PDGA number - it's just recommended b/c it's easy and it's a unique identifier that players have.

In Europe, ties are broken by amount of birdies.

As long as the method is applied consistently throughout, you can honestly do whatever you want as a TD.

Section A https://www.pdga.com/rules/competition-manual/section-1-tournament-procedures/19-tie-breakers

I'm aware of that, and I tried finding a pattern but failed. This is why I asked here.
