Looking for a straight driving putter and approach putter. Also would like it for annys...which of the two do you prefer and why...thanks for the input.

Dart. More plastic choices and a better feel to me (not as deep or high as a Nova). Easy to grip and they come out of my hand like a mid. I only messed with the Nova for a round, but I felt like I would need to change my throwing style to keep it consistent if it were something I was going to bag. Super touchy (to my bad form).

I've never tried a Dart. If the Mirage is at all similar, I've used it. Good disc for straight shots when thrown at low power.

I've also tried the Nova; nice straight putter, but I cut my finger on the "compass points" one too many times...

The Dart! The Nova is super touchy and in my opinion uncomfortable to grip. Suprisingly, not because of the big knobs on the bottom, but because of the tall long shoulder. Really, if youre fan gripping your putters (as you should) your fingers dont come near the knobs. I felt like the nova had to be released eeeever so perfectly to get a good line. The dart feels more like a baby mako. Its a slightly smaller diameter with the same mako nose and ridiculous glide. I used to use the dart for straight approach shots and putted with it for a short time although I found it to be a bit domey for putting. Its a great driving putter that feels more like a LSS midrange. Great for annys and stable into moderate wind. So, for me, hands down: The Dart.

Dart! Like Rom kinda said, it's just a small diameter mid that is disguised as a putter. They feel good in the hand, are easy to find, and come in a variety of plastics. I prefer and recommend at least picking up a R-Pro. But yeah Rom pretty much nailed the rest.

Climb up on the Dart bandwagon, there's plenty of room!

Have you felt a Nova? The weird feeling grip turns a lot of people away. However, if the grip doesn't bug you, it will hold straight or anny lines really well.

Dart has a more conventional feel in the hand. Maybe a touch less glide, but also can handle more power. Nova is touchier. Really, I see nova as more of an approach putter than a driving putter.

What plastic is recommended for the DART? Also what else to look for? like flat top, domey, puddle top? Thanks for all of the info

The Nova is wonderful in flight (HSS but still straight) but I'm trying to live without it since it's quite touchy.
If I always had clean releases it would be one of my favorite discs though, still might be the best disc I've tried for short annys. I even used mine for putting, nice straight with sticky rim.

Problem for me is that if you release it flat with a Little OAT it turns, if you compensate with hyzer and gets a clean release it hyzers out.

So I would say it depends on form, if you got a great one, the Nova can do it all.

I just asked this in the last couple of weeks and went with an Aviar (check the "Approach Putter" thread). But, between the Nova and Dart, I preferred the Dart.

I found that it was just easier to throw well and was also more predictable. The Nova is still a good disc and will definitely Let you know if you have form issues. The Dart is just more forgiving of them.

....Really, if youre fan gripping your putters (as you should) your fingers dont come near the knobs. ....

On the throws I've seen, McBeth isn't fan gripping his Novas. I think it's a slightly modified powergrip, but four fingers are on the inside rim.

Another vote for the dart. I have been throwing the dart since shortly after it was released. I prefer echo star and star plastic for the dart. The echo star is a nice firm plastic with good grip. The star plastic is very flexible. (like gstar) I look for discs with a moderate doom. The dart is just more comfortable in my hand. I do like lower profile putters. Never got comfortable with the aviars when I started playing. Went to the classic roc, than the dart, back to the classic roc, and now the stud for my putter. But the dart is still in the bag and loving it. Well I did get my first ace with it!

I don't think you can go wrong with either mold, they're both good. A lot of Dart love in this thread. In my area, I've see a lot more Novas in people's bags. The Dart is a good mold. I had one in my bag a few years back for driving/approach shots. I currently bag a Nova. It's absolutely money. I don't mind the injection/compass points at all. I drive with a fork/modified fan grip. It holds the angle of release. The plastics is great for approach shots that need to hit & stick. It also has great glide. If you can't throw a Nova flat & straight you have issues with your form (probably OAT). I aced a wide open 300' hole with a Nova. It went dead straight the entire flight.

dart.

i don't like doing any type of approaching with the nova, don't know how Mcbeth does it.

i'd rather drive with a nova than approach with one.

I have never thrown a Nova but from just picking in up in the store it did not feel comfortable to me. I currently bag an R-Pro Dart for straight drives and approaches, and I love it

The Nova has one of the most amazing flight dynamics I've ever thrown. I absolutely love it. Absolutely dead straight, so much glide I can pump it out as far as most mids, and one of the only discs I've ever seen that I can actually agree with a "0 fade." However, the grip is quite off-putting. It's very, very deep and instead of a traditional overmold used in so many industries, they went with a rivet style bonding that is very intrusive if your grip happens to land on in.

The Dart is most definitely my choice. It's a lot more understable and will turn over more easily than a Nova, but once you learn the disc, it can perform the same shots with ease. A little hyzer on a stronger throw and it will flip flat and ride dead straight with damn near zero fade, insane amounts of glide, and a lot better hand feel. I have a few Supreme Flight Sexton R-Pro Darts that I always pull out if I'm playing a course with a lot of woods and tunnels. Otherwise, I stick with Pilots, which are not quite as neutral and have a bit of fade, but have the best feel of the lot for straight P&A discs in my opinion.

I would say a the Dart, flies like a Skeeter which I have seen used as a putter well before Innova came out with a Wedge in 2009 and a Dart in 2010. This was in 2007, he had a Star or old Pro plastic Skeeter. I would assume he would use a R-Pro now if he needed a new putter. My dad has a DX one and with that particular disc the DX came out so soft it was not good in the first Runs of the disc. Not sure but is the Skeeter still soft in the DX compared to other discs in DX?
