DGPT - Idlewild Open driven by Innova Discs & The Nati

FPO Final:
Paige Pierce +8
Sarah Hokom +15
Rebecca Cox +28
Jessica Weese +29
Holly Finley +29

Cox and Weese the only ones to par hole 18, and jump a few places. . inportant hole.

i feel like you should play those last holes with a putter and be suuuper safe and not try and go for anything

I guess I'll have to see video to understand why Idlewild crushed the FPO field. I'm going to assume that it's a tough course, even in good conditions.

If Ricky and Jerm is watching Idlewild and all the bad weather they are probably happy thay stayed in Sweden. . super nice weather and thay came first and second in "The Open"

Unless I am playing dubs and my partner already threw a decent shot, I throw my beat up Wasp twice and hopefully have a 3rd shot from just short of the mouth of the tunnel... it is such a hard hole to finish on.

It's a very tough course. One that is designed to challenge the elite players (1020+ rating). Last year, a 68 (+2 to course par) was rated 999. This year, it looks like that score (now +1 to par) is 1002.

It's reasonable to conclude that a good three day total in FPO is probably going to be an average of three 950 rounds. A 950 round out there is roughly 76 (+9), so three rounds of that would be +27. Sure, the ultimate winner might shoot hotter to win (and she did), but +27 is close to where you expect the cashing players to be. Lo and behold, Becca Cox shot +28 to take third. +29 tied for fourth.

It would seem that the course didn't really crush the FPO field, at least not beyond expectations. But I think the better question is whether the course is appropriate for the FPO field. Idlewild strikes me as one of those courses that could stand to have a few shorter tees or pin placements more in line with challenging 950-960 rated players (of either gender).

Gotta disagree.

Live coverage: still unwatchable.

Well, tens of thousands of viewers would disagree. But to each their own.

It would be awesome to piggy back Jomez, but a few things. The equipment is very expensive. We are talking 7K per camera + data costs. (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1366804-REG/teradek_10_0659_nag_bond_659_avc_backpack.html) And on top of that, they have a different shooting style. When they are not filming a shot, they are very relaxed cameras on shoulders, etc. Our guys need to be active for the entire hole at a time in case we need to cut to one of them. Putting our equipment on them would hamper them and us ultimately.

But if anyone wants to buy us one of those backpacks, we would be your friend forever. :)

Rick had more than one instagram post this weekend bragging about how he made the "right" decision to stay in Sweden, with an emphasis on the weather.

I found out one reason Fred dropped out. He finished with an 11 on that final hole... :gross:

I wonder if they should play the short option for holes 14 and 15? There is a short placement on 14 and a short on 15 that make both holes "ace run" birdies holes. You still have to throw a good shot to get the birds, though. They aren't gimmies.

That would be a start. I'm a little confused because according to uDisc, it looks like FPO played shorter versions of 4, 5, and 6, but on video they sure look like the same tees and pins for both MPO and FPO (course map doesn't show short placements anywhere). Those holes could definitely use short placements...tees or baskets...if they don't already have them, as would 7, 8, 12, 16, 17, and 18 (and 14, 15 like you mention). Just looking at today's FPO stats on those holes, I'm not seeing many birdies, and of them, a few were thrown in from circle 2. The lack of birdies and excess of bogey+ scores is indicative of a course not set up for that skill level.

Well, well, well. They've got a McBeth-cam working after all. Not live, but it looks like they're treating it like they do the FPO coverage. Just did a recap of his first two holes as the lead card transitioned from hole 2 to 3.

At least that's how it feels.
