PDGA Doping Control?

Why people think being associated with weed is a bad thing is beyond me. It will soon be legal in United States as a whole. At that point it will be legal in all of North America. The Maryj industry will be one of the biggest tax drivers in the economy. It will be a boon, it will fuel lifestyle moreso than it already does. We will be the sport in on that grass roots. The downside is that I can't think of any drinking sports that are still popular.

I love this thread so much. So many secret scientists and know what's best for yous. PDGA will never test for weed, because by the time they could, it will be legal. It will still probably be against the rules to do it during tournament play, but so is drinking. And having a beer before your round is not prohibited as far as I know.

Not to mention between-the-line readers, going right past the pediatrics and geriatrics and sports medicine and the rest, to raise a clamor about what's not there.

So the PDGA asks for volunteers to provide some expertise, about a range of medical issues, instead of relying on the board's own layman knowledge?

And considers the possibility that, as disc golf grows, a time may come where consideration is given, not to the Olympics themselves, but international competitions subject to the same standards. In weighing those opportunities, shouldn't the PDGA be better informed of what will be involved?

With Austin Hannum's recent Twitter thread I expect this thread will be needed again. Just getting in there before five new threads with the same subject are created.

Personally I don't think DG is bringing in enough cash to make PED control worth it. There are many avenues of DG performance enhancement that are far from plumbed yet and would probably be more effective than any available PED.

Anybody else love it when people post about something someone said on twitter without either quoting the post or giving a link?...

I could see the DGPT doing something like this just for their events. Much smaller player base to deal with compared to the PDGA doing it for all sanctioned events.

Everything I've heard about testing and control in elite athletics has given me the impression that it is a colossal imposition on the athletes and ridiculously complicated. No thanks.

Agree completely. The average tournament DG'er often struggles in understanding the rather simple rules the PDGA has laid out for us and now we want to add a complicated PED policy?

Yeah, hard pass.

I mean, if the DGPT wants to beat their heads up against the wall and implement something that will likely have no effect and no one will want to enforce I wish them best of luck. Don't ask me to manage that kind of chaos though in my local tourneys....

*Texts Dave at 9:11 AM*

*11 minutes after I should be there*

Hey man. I'm running a little late, Can you hold everything up until I get there? Shouldn't be more than 15 minutes.

Also can I borrow a mini? Left mine at the house. Thanks in advance.

How could some super simple drug tests complicate things that I assume always run flawlessly?

OMG that post made me break out in a cold sweat lol...Story time!

A while back I was running a small C Tier and the Wednesday prior to the tournament a player asked if I would delay the start of the tournament 3 hours because he couldn't get off work in time. Shockingly, I said no.
Yeah - this happened at the Ohio Amateur Match Play championship bracket late this summer. Information had been up on the website for at least three months, and reminder eMails had been sent out to all competitors. I heard from the fellow about 30-45 minutes ahead asking if there was any way it could be delayed or he could show up a few hours late. Fun times.
