Longest forehand in disc golf?

Who would do you guys think has the longest forehand in the game today? I saw a thread a while back about a European player who was throwing 500+ regularly, but I couldn't find it.

That seems crazy far, even further than most of the top pros we see on film.

I've seen 500+ twice on flat ground. Both of those guys were playing intermediate divisions (not terribly well).

Anyone who can hit 500 without a downhill or the aide of wind can huck.

I throw 400+ and rarely get outdriven FH, though one guy on my card last weekend could keep up, and probably threw 450 BH too.

I've thrown over 500 flat twice both with a tailwind and lighter OS discs, and it was not easy to get all of the conditions right.

AG, Stokley back in the 90s and a few others are probably in that convorsation, but forehand is weird. You can have mediocre mechanics and if you have really good arm speed and a decently OS disc you can make it go far.

I'm curious about this, too.

When I was new to disc golf, I had no idea what a really long forehand distance was. But one day I was playing a solo casual round at Raintree Park in Troy and this guy and his girlfriend were behind me as I got to the tee pad on hole 9. She wasn't throwing, she was just along for the company, but I let them play through because it was obvious this guy was a really good player.

As we played that 9th hole, he gave me a few pointers. I don't know what the actual distance to the basket is, but it's marked something like 435 and I tend to believe it. He threw a drive that went about 25 feet past the basket and he made the putt. It wasn't until a while after that I realized that there probably aren't too many players who can throw a FH over 450 feet. Wish I knew who it was. I think he told me his name, but I don't remember.

Eagle, Zach Johnson, Geisinger, and Chris Clemons come to mind. McBeth has sneaky long forehand distance as well, especially when he just takes like one step, seems like he surprises himself sometimes.

Some other honarable mentions could be Brian Earhart, Austin Turner, and Adam Hammes.

What's interesting is that a lot of the best forehand throwers haven't been mentioned, like Wysocki, Sexton, Uli, Barsby, and Joel Freeman

Jason Cortella holds the FH distance record at 624'.

Eagle McMahon and Silver Latt are probably the longest that tour.

Was that record a pretty decent wind assist?

And what do you think Eagle throws if it's a wide open FH/golf line, not some kind of distance line? I'm sure I've asked this before.

Just from watching tourney footage, which is hard to gauge, it seems like anyone throwing over 430' FH on golf lines, which is like 375ish hyzer I bet, has high end FH power. Not saying that's elite, but it seems like that's the equivalent of guys hitting 500'ish BH. Then you have Eagle/Lizotte/Wiggins/GG/Gibson/etc. considerably above that range BH. Does that seem about right?

That was me when I played primarily FH. I would say my mechanics were worse than mediocre but, every once in a while, I could really bomb one

Switched to BH and lost 75 feet in max D but gained a whole lot more accuracy and now shoot lower scores - plus rebuilding the bag was a fun process

You might be thinking of Ville Piippo.

I think Piippo was an elite Olympic javelin thrower in his past. He used to show up on a lot of the lead cards in DG videos from European events, back when "lcgm8" was the top DG video producer. If you find video of the guy he'll be throwing forehand, the only backhands he threw were putts.

Jason's record was the same day as Wiggins I think, he said he threw a Legacy Cannon on anhyzer, so it would have to be a hell of a tailwind.

I recall watching some Memorial footage and Eagle was throwing a low line drive pin high on a 500' hole.

It's hard to throw FH on high distance lines like you can on BH. BH just has more natural range of motion, spin, and leverage throwing upward, while FH has more natural leverage throwing downward like pitching baseball, although sidearm isn't downward, and sidearm pitchers don't throw as fast as the overhand pitchers. I suppose I'd say throwing 400' FH golf lines is about equal to 500' BH golf lines.

I would not be surprised if this guy was up there. From what I've seen on video, his disc comes out like a rocket. If anything it looks like he has trouble powering them down, like he's the FH version of Drew Gibson and Trilogy discs aren't right for his power either. :\

Joel Freeman does come to mind as one of the longest forehand throwers.

Jason Cortella also has a huge backhand, he was pin high on a 650 foot hole that is very flat.....

Jason played at UC Santa Barbara when Mike Sale was there, Mike is the guy that set all those crazy records for most holes in 24 hours, and Mike has really good distance off the tee as well, not like Jason though, Jason is a distance specialist, does deadlifts, etc to train for max distance.

WIND WAS 10.0 MPH WHEN JASON SET THE FH RECORD ON OCTOBER 26, 2014 WITH A 168 GRAM LEGACY ICON CANNON.

Jason's record was the same day as Wiggins I think, he said he threw a Legacy Cannon on anhyzer, so it would have to be a hell of a tailwind.

NOT THE SAME YEAR AS WIGGINS. SIMON LIZOTTE SET THE BH RECORD WITH A THROW OF 263.2 METERS (863.5FT) ON OCTOBER 25, 2014 (WIND 12.1 MPH)

I was at Primm in October, 2014 when Jason Cortella and Simon Lizotte set the records. I have all the WFDF reports files for the event which list distance, time and wind speeds.
