[Drivers] The most underrated max distance drivers

I've thrown 1 Kahu. It reminded me of a Boss. Wide rim, not a ton of dome, and beefy. Nice plastic. I liked it, but I didn't love it. Glide seemed average at best.

If you run across an atomic XG they absolutely bomb.

Champion Shrykes seem to be fairly popular. I can't quite call that disc underrated. I agree they bomb though.

Ballistas are pretty popular, though I think the Ballista Pro is more so. Both of them are great distance drivers.

I didn't list the Thrasher as underrated because I really don't like that mold much. Really erratic/flippy. It isn't quite long enough to be useful for as flippy as it is. For me the Thrasher was like an extremely beat in Surge.

I don't see too many people throwing Shrykes myself, and don't see any pros throwing them.

Thrasher bombs. Flippy for sure, but in a tailwind or released with the right angle, they go faaaaaaar.

+1 for the Z Thrasher (left mine yesterday on a football practice field... sad)

Add the DD Captain to the long, glide list - if you can throw it high on hyzer.

Whatever distance driver someone watches my noodle arm throw instantly become underrated.

I'm going to add the Archon to the list too. Star or champion plastic, that dies flies well. Nice dome and glide. For me the Archon is like a somewhat flippier Wraith. No one throws them. I'm kind of surprised the Archon was never more popular.

i havent heard of archon in years

i think it never got popular cuz of that vulcan top and people have tons of beat up wraiths

not a terrible mold tho

A few of the FPO players have Shrykes in their bags. I don't see too many out in the wild on the course though.

Yeah, I think the Shryke is a little too flippy for most pro men players. For the average weekend chucker the Shryke is a great option. They're popular around here amongst the masses.

I bet the Hades falls into the same class. Popular for regular players, but pros won't throw it.

Same thing with the Katana. I see tons and tons of them around, but pros generally don't bag it.

Climo was throwing a Star Katana before his retirement/injuries ended his career. I think the Katana is good if you throw 400-425 which I think he was throwing about that then. I think once you get past that it gets more squirrelly/unreliable in general. That's my sense from having 450+ throwers throw some of mine. Turns more, needs more room to work, can be more finicky. Not worth it to try and get another 20 feet.

Another that I'll mention, Gateway Apex. It's a wide diameter driver, so a little odd in the hand at first. But after you get used to it, it has a lot of glide and decent stability.

GG was throwing Katanas in his mile attempt video. I always admired how far an SL would fly, though it takes a lot of L to R to get a full flight. Not the mold, but the plastic: X Nuke is probably the longest disc I've ever thrown.

SL was good in pro plastic. I thought it stunk in star plastic. All the star SLs I saw were these flat, glideless turds. The pro SL felt like a mellower Orc with better glide.

I think the longest disc(s) I've thrown are G* Corvettes and a Neutron Relativity.

Huh. I only ever had Star Sls. Seems like your taste is for slightly less OS drivers than mine. Your form is probably better. Interesting that our distance is similar with different molds. FWIW, I'm madly in love with Traces, which I know we talked about a while ago.
Current driver setup-Force, Zeus, Champ Wraith, Neutron Trace, Proto Hades.

The Archon I have recently got is highly underrated for a Driver as most keep using the Valkyrie in specific plastics or they get the specific plastic of Turn that is 12|6|2|-2. One my Brother uses the Wahoo is underrated as 2 years of high use turns the mold into a Road Runner 12 speed. Reason I got a slightly used Wahoo for him, he wanted a faster Road Runner/Sidewinder type disc though at speed 10 and he is not happy with the Monach when he tested the mold in late 2000's, another underrated driver as that is either Love hate, very few meh like my brother.

From Discraft not too many use/used the Surge after more modern molds came out. Also the Punisher is overlooked for the Force, even though a Punisher is a more consistent version of the Tee Devil in flight, the more popular mold if one wants a US Destroyer and not have to look for a US Destroyer in the Destroyer set. The Thrasher is also kind of slipping under the radar for players since mold is more Archon like but faster and better glide.

I've only thrown one Trace. Plasma plastic, which seemed to me like G*. Thing was flat out beefy. Beefier than a Wraith, with less glide. I have another, in regular star-like plastic. I'll have to give it a try.

I dig the Zeus and Hades. Both of those are really good molds.
