[Gateway] Gateway Wizard

Well they made some Nylon blend wizards. My understanding is those came first and were something like S/SS flex. Then they released the "nylon/rubber alloy" wizards where they added some rubber to the mix. They are more like 4S flexibility.

I have some nylon/rubber alloy Wizards. They are very stiff. I think mine are marked SS but they are pretty close to F.

Just wish I could have found some in a color other than black.

Alright well I guess they are all over the place then, haha. I haven't tried any yet but I was intrigued. Can never have too many Wizards in the backyard pile.

What exactly is the point of Nylon Blend? How exactly would this make my day any better than a good 'ol Sure Grip?

I think your second link is just the nylon alloy. (Which I am not familiar with)

The first link does say it's the nylon/rubber alloy so I might gamble and order one and see what I get.

My black ones are very firm, slightly puddle topped, grippy but not too grippy and are a joy to throw off the tee. They are a pain to find in the tall weeds. I'm waiting for snow season to really start using them. Blue isn't much better than black for me but it is better.

Thanks.

What's the point of any of the million Wizard varieties? You never know when you'll find something you like. I figured the hemp was a gimmick and I've been using one as my primary putter for two seasons. *shrug*

On the Gateway site they list at $14.99.

Infinite had some at $11.99 so I guess that's more reasonable. Discs are getting too expensive for me to just buy whatever, though. At these prices I kinda gotta at least think I might use it for some reason.

Agree the prices direct from Gateway make no sense. It used to be cheaper to buy from them, not more expensive. Also the last time I tried to buy a 2-pack it wouldn't let me check out, I couldn't select a shipping method unless I added at least 3 total discs to the cart ($40 minimum?).

Gateways plastic blends constantly change...for better or worse.
They are always releasing some "proto-blend" ,and "sure-grip" is just a name.

The recent organic hemp wizards are AMAZING. I made sure to get 5 of them. I will possibly get more.

The rule with wizards are if you find a good blend that molded up perfect for you...buy as many as you can afford. The next run will be shockingly different or never made again.

Didn't Gateway hire some kind of designated adult just to smooth out operations? Like to reign in The Mad Plastic Wizard and create some consistently across all their product lines?

I'm using two Erasers for putters, but they feel somewhat different. How's the hemp compare?

Gateway has over the years had a revolving door of folks in and out that were supposed to add some professionalism to the madness that is Gateway Disc Sports. I long ago lost track.

Gateway has Nylon and Nylon Alloy (along with a Nylon Alloy Wizard that is stamped "Nylon/Rubber Alloy") for sale on the website. None of the listings say anything about how a Nylon disc would be different or explains the concept in any way, and Nylon isn't listed amongst the plastic types. They are selling them, but making zero effort to market what exactly it is they are selling.

Infinite (who realizes you actually have to look like you are trying) has added "The Nylon Blend is an experimental plastic from Gateway where Nylon material was added to the plastic mix to create a combination of good grip and a firm, stiff feel" to their listings.

It's gotta be hard on retailers not knowing exactly what might be hatched at Gateway. Or knowing if SSS is really SSS or more like SSSS or $$$ or RFF or R-E-S-P-E-C-T or whatever they call todays plastic blend.

My sample is especially low profile when compared to the other Wizards I have. It also has excellent grip for how firm it is, but then again Sure Grip typically does as well. I'm a fan of the Special Blend, for both putting and throwing.

I just wish some of the special blends were more available/in bigger runs, but i guess then they wouldn't be Special. I loved the G-25 and SB-14 Wizards for how stiff they are. But I only have a few because by the time I found out about them, I could not get more than one here or there. Recently found a super stiff one with no flex labeled on it. It was Orange and stamped Gateway Underground Factory Second. Cannot tell why it is a factory second, but love the feel of the plastic and how stiff it is. Then found another at a different store in a slightly different shade of orange with the same stamp, also not labeled with a flex. Same stiffness. None of the other Wizards at either store with those stamps and no flex label, there were a ton btw, were anywhere close to being as stiff as these two. Maybe just a happy accident.

Wizards truly are the mold that is best purchased in person. I mean most discs are better purchased in person, but with Wizards I feel like half the fun is finding that one that suits you just right. I will gladly sort through 50 Wizards to possibly find that one that really speaks to me.

I could be wrong, but I believe they settled on a "final" Special Blend. Mine do not have any number or flex listed, but I'd rate them between S & SS. I definitely agree that you have to put a bit more effort when purchasing a Wizard than a KC Aviar or something else along those lines.

But they do mark them as SB on the underside of the disc right? I meant to say the disc had no plastic blend marked( SSS, SB, PW, etc.), not flex (even though that is what Gateway used to called it). So it was just penned Wizard and the weight underneath.

Ahh, I see. Yes, it is labeled SB but there is no specific number added. I've never seen a wizard without the plastic blend marked, but I can't say I'm surprised to hear that it happens.
