The Inevitable 2022 Pros Switching Sponsors Thread

"Sometimes its hard to say goodbye but we have nothing but positivity, love and support for Hailey king.

Discraft and Hailey King have decided to end our 2 year contract with each other early. This was not a easy decision but we wanted to support Hailey through some changes in her life and both Discraft and Hailey felt it was good for her to experience something new. We want to thank her for an amazing 5 years and wish her luck on this new journey.

We will always be rooting for you Hailey!" - Discraft Disc Golf

Hailey to Discmania? Add a crush girl to the crush boys that they have. Discmania could really use a top level female.

Hailey to Discmania feels like a great fit.

Consider that teens and college age adults are in a time of flux regarding what they want to pursue for their careers, what they want in personal relationships and whether they want kids when young or later, and whether they prefer settling down in a location. Point being, we shouldn't be surprised with choices players in this age range may make including stepping aside to pursue other life goals either in the short term or longer. No idea what Hailey and some others in this age range are planning, but moving to another sponsor is only one possibility.

I saw a comment on Reddit that said Innova is preparing legal action against DD (not Ricky). no source or anything but I think we need more drama this off season so I'm choosing to believe it for now

I smell tampering

what do you mean tampering?

Not sure on what basis Innova could challenge DD. They have/had a "contract" of some sort with Ricky. Unless they have some sort of non-compete between manufacturers, then what is "tampering"?

Some Innova fanboys have been watching too much NFL converge lately. Not aware of any agreement between manufactures that states they are not allow to contact players already under contract.

Which sounds a bit like a Rico violation based on my TV law degree.

Correction, anti-trust law.

Good luck with proving DD is a creating a monopoly with this signing.

Disc golf needs more money, guns and lawyers.

I was just having a bit of fun.

Westside announced the split with Nikko, which might lead some to believe Ricky is on the way over. Normally the break-ups are not announced by the Manufacturer. It could have been a mutual split but normally the player makes a statement first.

As for Ricky leaving Innova early, well it was a 5 year deal and he ended it very early which I don't think any of us saw coming back in the summer. That was the surprise.

It appears that everyone signs with the intent of seeing a contract its end but the reality is these contracts are a series of one year options that might last 3-5 years.

And the Westside comment, what if Westside was clearing space? I am sure that's not what happened but why let facts get in the way of a good troll.

As for Paul, I like the Mclaren, and those cars and many like them do often increase in value. So the car is not only transportation but works as investment as well. Plus if you really want to show off a bit, that type of purchase kinda does it.

In the end, I hope all involved are happy and they get what ever they are after.

People are questioning the 'value of contracts'.

Nikko's contract with Westside was extended to 2023. Now he's no longer with Westside. Did the contract really have any meaning to either one?

Ricky had 5 years left with Innova. He's no longer with Innova. Did the contract really have any meaning to either one?

Catrina left Prodigy....I don't know if she still had time on her contract or not...so that could be different.

In disc golf, does a sponsor contract really have any value/meaning to either side? It doesn't appear to since contracts are being 'dropped/ignored' frequently. The contracts seem to be more of an agreement of convenience until something better comes along.

I'm guessing she is going to DD. There seems to be no indication that age is a factor, it seems like it is part of the general shift taking place this off season.

Not my point.

Only basis Innova would have to "go after DD" for signing Ricky would be some type of non-compete collusion, which would then violate anti-trust laws.

IMO.

I thought the same thing when I saw Innova's new Rock Hill warehouse before it opened in like 2008-09. Disc golf would have to grow 10-fold to even come close to needing all that space, I thought at the time.

Short version is it has, if not 20-fold or more over that time.

Does anyone with 15+ years of playing this game expect it contract? It never has before.

Nope, not a chance. This is just the start. Disc golf is becoming more than just an activity for weekend hobbyists, it's a social and community movement for people in a very otherwise isolated and atomized 21st century culture. I think people are hungry for more community engagement and this is one of many solutions that are presenting themselves.

The legal claim, if one exists, would be one of "tortious interference" with parties already under contract for the relevant activities. Nothing to do with anti-trust.

It even looks like a halo disc.
