The Inevitable 2022 Pros Switching Sponsors Thread

At least now, were treating men like women...:\

It probably began with Arnold Palmer. David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, Tom Brady may have been great athletes, but their success on the pitch isn't the sole reason why they are international brands.

Thread drift since the topic has been drifting in and out of here.

Big 4 Disc Golf supply issues - from a decent size retailer standpoint:

Discraft: 100% the worst production level over the past 2 years. I wish I could get stock like I can the other companies because it sells like hotcakes when I do have it. They're the least open about their business to retailers. We don't have a clue what's going on at any time. We just receive a mystery box of discs each month. 90% of which will have PMcB or PP name on them. I have a few different customers who worked there for a while and didn't have much positive to say, but that could just as easily be their own problem, I don't know.

MVP: 100% the best in production over the past 2 years, and that still doesn't say much overall. I just loaded 30 mold/plastic combos that have been out of stock forever, and that's been happening monthly. And now, when those molds sell out, we won't have them again for many months as they're producing the next big batch. They are by far the most open company about the inner workings of the company. A ton of new equipment over the past 2 years. Like someone stated, the equipment purchase and setup is 6 months at a lucky minimum, then quite a bit of time to actually dial the equipment in. Injection molding machines are the furthest thing from plug and play.

Innova: Lifted dealer limits, but the order form is maybe at 30%. Plenty of popular stuff popping up each month like MVP, but stuff still goes out of stock for months at a time.

Trilogy: Plenty of DD, a fair amount of Lat64, and a little Westside. Lt64 stuff is selling really well when it comes out. Still well over half their molds haven't been produced in over a year.

The plastic supply chain has been terrible from what I'm hearing from local plastic injection shops. I'm not sure how it really has effected any of the dg companies, though. MVP stated that they bought a ton early on in the boom and they have no plastic supply issues. I'm not sure the effects on the other companies. I know Lat64 is using the new Italian Discmania C-Line blend for a lot of the Trilogy molds, so maybe they're running out of their regular Opto/Lucid/VIP. Not sure.

It's crazy to even think these companies should be able to keep up with the demand this high. The demand is still far higher than any amount of equipment that they can viably purchase. Imagine doubling or tripling your equipment and your output. That's tens of millions of dollars or more, and it's still nowhere close to what's needed right now. We all wish it was as easy as a lot of people think it is.

Meaning Lat64 is using the Italian plastic blend for their own Lat64/Trilogy molds?

This was very informative, thank you for sharing your perspective as a retailer!

Nice update.

I would imagine at the sheer volume of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) manufactured over the past 2 years that plastic supply chain has been stretched thin.

that's a good point in general.

Plastic supply could be up from 2 years ago yet demand is out running the supply growth.

From a Michigan club perspective....this is my experience...literally line for line above.

How are Lat64 / DD branding them? Opto? Italian blend C-Line?

Just the same as before Opto/Lucid/VIP.

I'm not sure if it will be the new norm going forward or if they're just testing it as a viable future option. Waiting on them to restock more stuff to see if we get more in.

Hot Take.

If Cat goes to Innova, I would think she would maybe get her name on the destroyer mold since no one has it right now and she would be bringing in 2 world titles. This could be huge for Innova and Cat. Having a woman on their most popular disc would be awesome to see.

On board with this for its own sake and because it makes Cat and Paige into a Discraft and Innova rivalry at the top of the card now that the Ricky and Paul dimension is gone.

Dickerson with a FB post thanking Vii for 3 years of sponsorship.

Kinda strange he'd be moving away from them too considering they sponsor athletes from other manufacturers?
