The Inevitable 2022 Pros Switching Sponsors Thread

Buying tour series discs used to make me feel like I was helping out a guy (or gal) that was chasing their dream and trying to make a meager living out of something that I just do for fun.

Now I'm not sure how I feel about paying extra to support someone making millions of dollars.

Maybe I'll just have to justify my spending by telling myself that sweet plastic or a cool stamp and worth a few bucks more.

That's a gorgeous looking Felon! I heard Scott Stokely mention he loves the Felon and will have tour series discs with multiple companies. So I may hold out in case DD releases one for him. I could never resist knuckle tats on a Felon

A lot of the east TN shops have taken down their Discraft wall because they straight up haven't been able to get discs for the last 2 years. If Dickerson did go to Discraft, I wonder if they would make more of an effort to get discs to this part of the country.

Another idea that some people around here are floating (I don't think that means anything, they were all blown away that he left Prodigy) is that he partners up with Phil Arthur.

I don't know a lot about the inner workings at Prodigy and was surprised a while back when Phil left to start EV7. I knew he was a huge part of things, but wasn't sure if it was mainly molding and design knowledge, the business side of things, or both? Seemed to be well liked by the players.

It seemed kind of odd that EV7 was being marketed as a premium putter only company. I guess I figured why limit yourself to one specific area when you could make everything. The whole situation seemed to work though signing Drew and then him doing the mixed bag deal with Infinite. Dunno if Phil is forward thinking and intended EV7 to be putter only to be ahead of the mixed bag trend?

My local PIAS carries the penrose, plastic blends all feel pretty good and the disc is fairly comfy. I'm just outside of STL though, in Gateway's back yard, so wizards are a dime a dozen and it's really easy to get the exact feel you're looking for. Personally I think the EV7 blends feel a lot like Gateway's stuff, which isn't a bad thing. It's fairly known that Dave Mac is always tinkering with plastic blends…some people love it and others hate it, so something similar with less variance should go over well. Haven't held a phi but I'd expect it to be a fairly solid mold as well.

Seems like Dickerson's departure from Prodigy came about fairly quick. That's not to say that Phil didn't reach out to him once he heard the news, but if the plan was to sign Chris and announce a full disc lineup you'd think something like that would have been a longer term plan. The departure from Prodigy seemed more reactionary at face value.

There's a chance he goes the EV7 and Infinite route like Drew, and you could say the same thing about Cat. To me at least, I don't see either of them really trying to set themselves apart as a big social media presence. Seems like with a mixed bag people want to know what you're checking out and bagging. He also doesn't come across as the guy who is looking to sign the biggest deal to prove he's the best. Take a bigger base than he was getting, make sure travel expenses are covered, and dedicate your time to practice and winning.

Matt Bell wiill also go with the EV-7 putter. . .and i find that odd as TSA have a putter . . but maybe Matt needs a bead

Yeah it really changes the 'dynamic' between player & consumer hahahaha. I prefer US based manufacturers but I'll keep an open mind to Dynamic. Ricky has always been one of my favorite pros & I like DD's player focused campaign.

It's a bummer for me to read how Innova isn't open with their touring pros about revenue info.

They are both registered for the LVC

Yes and a few others like Seppo and Linus.
Wonder how long they will stay in the US? IF they get in. . .

I do think the Tour have quite a few views from Europe, specialy the FPO that is live late afternoon in EU just after work . . most of the tour the MPO plays late and to after midnight

Yes, I'm excited to see what the European ladies will do in the US. Kristin Tattar at least showed that her rating was valid on the Pro tour also, and both Henna and Eveliina is just a couple of points below Kristin when it comes to rating.

I'm also really interested to see how Linus Carlsson and the other Europeans MPO:s will perform. I've heard rumours that Linus a couple of other Swedes are hoping to stay and play on the Pro Tour April-October if everything works out with Covid etc.

It will also be interesting to see what sponsor Linus will sign with for 2022 after announcing he is leaving Innova. Linus should be a pretty good name to sign after his two straight Swedish Championships and second place at the Europeans this year. At 23 this year he also has a lot of good years in front of him. And he has got the same rating as for example James Conrad, at 1035. And even though ratings from different parts of the world aren't necessarily equivalent, it's at least an indication that he's pretty good.

Both Eveliina and Henna have played in US and proved their rating to be correct. And they ruled Europe so far - Kristin so far havent managed to beat them both in European Championships. But Kristin is much-much more professional and in long run it will pay off.

Still it must be a "fun" goal for Henna and Eveliina to try to beat Kristin, Paige, Kona and Missy and prove they are worth a big contract as well.

They are both very young and a +$100000 a year contract will be life changing for them..

Wonder how many "that guy/girl is payed that much and i beat him/her X times this year and have more followers" talks it will be next year with players and their sponsors.

Scott Stokley is getting sponsored PER MOLD he's using. Says he'll have signature series discs from several manufacturers. This sounds a little like Drew Gibson, and might be another tell for the future of sponsorships. BUT- I think one would have to be something of a household name in disc golf in order to get a sweet deal like this. Also, that GGGT cart screams 1970s lawn chairs. Powder coat that frame or something.

I think Stokley was mentioned several pages ago, but I hadn't seen the reference vid yet.

Yes, I guess that kind of sponsorship deal is just possible for very few players. As far as I know from what have been shown in previous videos he will at least have signature series versions of Berg, Lots and Stål from Kastaplast plus Harp from Westside, with more to come as I've understood.

As I understood it he won't have one "in the bag" video, but instead one video for each disc/mold plus the bag and the cart. Just so he has enough time to explain not only what he will be throwing/using, but also in detail why. He has so far done videos for the Berg and the Stål. https://www.youtube.com/c/ScottStokelyDG/videos

I think this is how sponsorship in disc golf should be heading. No more of this team Innova, team Discraft, team whatever bull****.

I'd throw paper plates exclusively for $1 million a year. Stokely's deal is cool but I'm sure the top players are making more with team deals.

Also, that GGGT cart screams 1970s lawn chairs.

I think Juliana Korver was dragging one of those around on tour. I definitely see the lawn chair comparison. I didn't realize it was a real thing until I saw Stokely's. I figured it was something she cobbled together from Walmart.
