Looking for your opinion: What is a better disc for long FH S's? To be clear I'm talking about a throw released with anhyzer that flies left and turns back to the right. Boss? Excal? Destroyer? Force? I do have an opinion on the matter, but I'm curious as to what your thoughts are...thanks

I sometimes play with an elderlyish gentleman that throws the shot you describe on most drives off the tee. He uses a Champion Destroyer. He recently tried switching to a Boss with mixed results.

If it sways your opinion, I have plenty of snap and decent technique. My FH drives get out there 375-425 consistently (and more if I'm throwing 12 and 13speed stuff).

I find that my boss is a bit flippy for FH S shots, more so if there is the slightest headwind. It will work well for that shot if it is in the 300-350 ft range but thrown harder there is risk of turnover.

I would go with something a bit more stable that will dependably come back. Force and Xcal may work but i have no experience with either of them.

PD would be perfect slot for it. Excaliber is too stable for Forehand.

Boss and Xcaliber are my main 2 FH discs.

I do not have the tremendous speed necessary to get either one of these to fly completely flat, they both flex, but, the Boss flex's less.

So this means I need more sky for the Xcal, the Boss I can throw much lower, and straighter. The Boss also seems to fly a smidge farther.

Xcal is better upwind, Boss can be a touchy bitch and very nose angle sensitive, Xcal is more forgiving.

I use a Pro Boss for alot of FH shots and get a decent S curve with that. If it's windy or I want less "S", then the Champion Boss would do the trick (some runs...... my XG Champ Boss is flippy in the wind)

Hmm. No thanks. I have and LOVE my PD, but it's my go-to control driver. It holds a line forever the fades at the tail end- not the best for a true S shape. And an excaliber is not too stable for FH if you can snap it up to speed.

This shot is not my cup of tea, but I have a buddy that only throws FH flex shots off the tee. He is not currently capable of a flat release. Most of his drives are 350+ with the bombs going over 400. FWIW, he throws either a boss or an excal...both in champion plastic. I have seen him throw a destroyer, but there is less flex in the throw for him.

You could also try a Monster or a Gateway Speed Demon. They're both quite flippy for me.[/QUOTE

Flippy is exactly want I don't want for that shot....:wall:

I'd hoped the Nuke would work for the FH flex shot, but it's not near stable enough- it just goes DEEPLY left and comes back a tiny bit at the very end.

My domey Z-Force's seem to work well for the shot you described. The Force is stable enough to always come back from an anhyzer release, and is one of my farthest discs thrown forehand.

I picked up a Nuke today and that is about all i was able to do with it hahahaha. not really though. I took it out to my closest course and the weather was atrocious but so i only took that disc. I would throw it anny and it would come back just like i wanted it too. also good for tommys and thumbers. If i get it nice and low to the ground on a straight shot it goes forever. What im trying to say is this is my new favorite disc hahaa. But seriously its awesome for rhfh s curves

I've heard the Discraft Flick is a sweet forehand driver, and given its stability rating (2.0-2.5), you might get some good flex action out of it. However, I don't have one, so I can't speak from experience.

I would expect this to be mostly a form issue (ie: OAT).

C-PD maybe. Definitely not the S-PD or P-PD for a FH flex. They'll turn over too much. At the range he's talking about I wouldn't suggest it. The C-PD is a shorter FH driver (anywhere from 250-350ish) for me.

If you're looking for a flex shot my choice would definitely be an STAR Xcaliber. All reports I've heard of champion plastic Xcals have been negative. I threw the Xcal for my primary FH distance driver for almost two years, and it worked pretty well for me (I was using it for 350-450 foot lines if the space was given to me). In the beginning I used it for the flex shots you are talking about, but after much use I began having to flip it on max D lines or flat for ones a little shorter. I want to be clear that this took about 8 months of heavy abuse for it to get to that point though (2+ rounds a day for that time period).

The Force is very similar to the Xcaliber. I threw it for a while, but it never felt quite right and I ended up going back to the Xcaliber.

A couple weeks ago I started to throw Destroyers instead of Xcalibers. I started doing this because I realized that I was applying a sizable amount of OAT to get the disc to fly the lines I wanted. This was really messing up my shorter FH lines with the C/S-PD. I tried the Destroyer and quickly found I could hit the same lines and about the same distances as my Xcaliber with two added benefits. First, it didn't fade out nearly as hard. Second, it took about 75% power to get the shot a 95% shot with the Xcal had taken, translating to more control; however, I do not throw flex shots anymore, so take that with a grain of salt. I'm not sure that they'd be as good for a flex shot at as long of a range.

I have not thrown a Boss, but I would expect it to be similar to the Destroyer, with the added effect of being faster and everything that usually comes along with added speed, including inconsistency.

I hope you enjoyed my mini-novel.

Sorry. I didn't mean to say flippy. I mean that they flex hard. You can throw them with a good bit of anhyzer and the will flex back quite well.

Ah, makes much more sense. Also, while we're on flex shots and other companies' discs, the Spirit from Gateway would be a good choice. It isn't quite as fast, but it is wicked overstable.
