Thought this thread might get interesting and be super informative...especially for the newbs and the casuals.

So what is the most common (and sometimes casually accepted) PDGA rules violation that you see??? try and post the PDGA rule if you can find it.

Mine I see all the time...flipping the thrown disc to mark a lie.

The rules state that you either have to mark the lie with a mini at the front of the disc closet to basket, or use the furthest part of the disc away from the basket as the lie...IE...NO FLIPPING of the disc. (as I unknowingly did for my first year of playing)

803.03 Marking the Lie

A. After each throw, the thrown disc must be left where it came to rest until the lie is established by the placing of a marker. This can be done by placing a mini marker disc on the playing surface between the hole and the disc, directly in line with the hole, on the line of play, touching the thrown disc. A player may instead choose, without touching or repositioning the thrown disc, to use the thrown disc as the marker. The marker may not be moved until the throw is released. A marker inadvertently moved prior to the throw shall be returned to its correct location.

Any number of courtesy violations - smoking, drinking, swearing, throwing out of turn, advancing in front of player throwing...

In tournaments, or casual play?

Tournaments, my first thought is stance violations.
Runner-up: 30 second rule

Non-rule rules! In other words, trying to enforce rules that don't even exist.

Not gonna cite but

Pushing back into branches to make a shot, bending the brush is very common

trampling down long grass underbrush to get a run up is a common one I call people on

30 seconds on the tee gets violated all the time

3 minutes to look for a lost disc always seems to take 10

A big one I've seen is taking practice throws, but not in the fashion you'd think, because any disc thrown over 5 feet or in the putting zone is a stroke, so if you go mark your lie, then turn and toss the disc back to your bag, its supposed to be a stroke, its looked over a lot though.

It is definitely foot faults/stance violations. Even Pro's get a little loose with their feet in tourney's and casuals just don't care.

pushing back into brush is a violation? i thought you could as long as no damage (breaking) is done? i'd have to say foot faults and the courtesy ones (i cuss myself out all the time

Technically not against the rules. The rules haven't clearly stated when something growing behind the lie has transitioned from low grass to something that constitutes an obstacle.

Falling putts are pretty brutal. I'll call those even in casual play.

Littering is a big one I see as well....people flicking their butts on the course

Holding on to something BEHIND your lie is not prohibited by the rules, provided that the tree that the golfer is using as a supporting point is in-bounds (803.03.A (3)). The branch must not be moved, or else the player would be in violation of one or both of 803.04.D and 803.05.A, which require you to take the stance that results in the least movement of objects that are part of the course and which prohibit you from moving a branch to "make room for a throwing motion".

trampling the grass would violate this....so would pushing back into the brush

Throwing while stepping on whatever you're using to mark your lie. Your foot must not cross the line behind your marker. That extra inch is not going to make or break you anyway.
