Best way to glow??

For those of us that dont have Glow Plastic, what is the best way to glow up your disc. What do you use. What do you stay away from. Last week I used a 2.5 inch glow in the dark earing (mini glowstick). It worked well for about an hour, but it was hard to see at the end of the round or if i shanked it hard. A few people had some blinking LED lights that seemed to work well, but i dont know where to get them.

They make replacement LED/batteries for night bobbers. Tape one of these to the middle bottom of your favorite champ/Z disc with multiple layers of scotch and you're in business. If you must use an opaque disc, tape it on the top with duct, because of the way the disc flexes when it lands it will snap scotch on top. I tape it down with two strips over the LED, perpindicular to the LED, then one strip on both sides holding down the initial strips tightly, parallel to LED, and finally one strip on both sides holding down the second strips tightly, perpindicular to LED but not over it, just outside and flat on the disc. If you do this, hit all the trees you want and that LED's going nowhere. You can get these at any Wally World or Meijer. They do advertise them for dg too but it's the same thing. They are reusable and say they last twenty hours. Don't waste your time on the green ones, get in bed with red and make sure to get the "pop" in and out type and not the "swivel" to turn on and off type. Cost around $3.

I agree the LEDs are the way to go - We played our Glow Tourney last night and I threw Glow plastic except for a Yellow Champ XCaliber with an LED. It worked great, I have used red & yellow and agree that green does not show as well. I use clear packing tape across the bottom of the disc to hold the LED. Dicks Sporting Goods also carries them.

LED for sure, you can pick them up at Walmart/Meijer/K Mart/Bass Pro Shop/Gander Mountain. They are Called Thill Nite Brites & they are for a fishing bobber. I tape them to the bottom of my discs using Scotch Strapping tape, i find that that's the stickiest of the tapes.

I use the same LED bobber lights. I use packing tape and tape them to the top of the disc. I just use 1 driver and 1 midrange and I don't light up my putter.

I played several days overseas on a discount disc golf vacation last year. One of the stops was the Chernobyl Disc Sports Complex (CDSC), and since playing this course, all my discs glow. It's been a year and I don't notice any reduction in the illumination.

Hook, line and stinker.

Like everyone else has been saying, Thill LED bobber lights! But scotch tape guys? Really? Clear duct tape is the only way to go!

Red LED's(buy in bulk from China) and 2032 flat watch batteries. Slide LED leads around the battery and tape to disc with clear duct tape. You clear packing tape folks obviously have either a. no humidity/condensation/water or b. never hit a tree at night. Clear duct tape is the bomb, it doesn't come off for any reason and if you tape the side of the led and battery and leave the tip of bulb out from under the tape you get a great illumination of the disc. Adds 4 grams to disc. This combo actually works really well on top of the disc too for dx or dark discs. Love me some night golf. Look forward to playing this weekend with our nightime lows at 45 that will be perfect. No skeeters!

I smack plenty of trees using plain ole scotch and have never had any problems. Either my taping technique is flawless or I need more power on my drives; I like to think the aforementioned.

Can you take a picture of your setup and post it here please???? It is getting dark here now around 5:30 so there may be more night disc golf happening.

Here is a pic of the top of the disc. What is on the bottom is a 2032 watch battery and a red led light. This pic has two leds on one battery, I don't recommend this. It kills the shine on both lights. You are better off just using one and it will use less juice. LED Shoppe online is a great place with great prices. Two weeks to get them at least since they come directly from China. In Mississippi the clear duct tape it a must. Discflinger, I'm guessing you don't hit trees like I hit trees. We have several 300 ft plus holes with very tight fairways so I am looking to get a pretty good rip on them. We have one hole that has a pretty good backstop behind the basket so in order to get through the 12 ft wide fairway I rip a destroyer like I am throwing a 400 ft hole and crash the disc behind the basket. Works pretty well for me but when you hit a tree you need alot more than packing tape holding it in at that velocity. Not to mention humidity here. Your discs are usually soaked good by hole two or so. Best battery price I have found is a place in Tupelo, MS called Extreme Glow, they have a website you can google it. They don't have the leds loose though. You can get batteries and leds at radio shack for a short term fix but for $20 bucks or so you can all the stuff you need to do 50 or so setups with the sites above. All you need is a roll of clear duct tape. Good luck and have fun. Best way to play is to only flash the basket for 30 seconds then throw it blind. Glow sticks on baskets mess up depth perception. I end up throwing short all the time.

After starting this thread I have found so much usefull info.Thanks. I also found a website called
Rod-n-bobbs.com They sell "disc golf beacons" which seem to be the s#!t. They are LED'S that you can tape to your disc. I guess an LED is an LED, but when it says "disc golf LED" I tend to be bias!!

I wonder if those are better than the ones I got a walmart. I've gotten a few that are dull and it is so hard to see the disc. I might have to invest in some of those LEDs from Dicks.

You can try http://www.blackjaxsports.com/. These LED discs are very easy to find at night, but difficult to throw.

The other method I have used is to purchase a 3V battery and an LED from Radioshack. You tape the two wires coming out of the LED to either side of the battery and then you tape it above or below the disc depending on your plastic. I don't like the clear Duct tape because I've seen the adhesive fail in wet conditions. The packaging tape has always worked best for me. Once the battery runs out buy a new one.
