Don't just say I like 171's because that's what I've always used and they just fly good for me. I want valid reasons why. If you don't have a valid reason why your weight is the best weight, then you can participate in the poll but stfu.

I use 175's because they are less effected by the high winds we sometimes get in Texas.

i have the same reason, but I am in MI. When it's really fair and no wind I may toss a 150 sometimes though.

I like 165s because it is a nice balance between the squirrelyness of 150s and the fact that I have a hard time getting 175s "up to speed."

I didn't vote because I carry 2 putters. A heavy one for windy days and more aggressive putts; 174g I think. And a lighter one, 165g for when it is calm or I'm trying to finesse one into the basket. I also use the lighter one if my arm starts getting fatigued.

I'll try to explain how I got where I am.

My first putter was a 166, in the starter kit. Didn't really know what I was doing, but it worked ok. I moved up, over time to max weight (175s) I tried a variety of molds, settling on the Magic, and eventually the Voodoo. I liked the heavy weight as it seemed the least affected by the wind and covered up some release errors. I could just throw it at the chains.

But I was leaving longer (30+ ft) putts short, as they would fall off the line. Throwing harder caused me to be more erratic. And I remembered how the 166 would just hold it's line a touch longer. I also found out this 175 actually weighed 177, so that explains the sluggish feel.

I started playing around with lighter weights and carried a 172 for true putter and a 168ish for longer, finesse putts. Then I realized that carrying three weights caused more inconsistency then it helped so I settled on the 170 for all putting. I still drive and approach with a 175.

I like this "lighter" 169-170 weight for these reasons:
-I can get a better wrist snap and therefore accelerate it better
-Slightly better glide for the same spin/speed, staying on lines a bit longer, without fading out
-The Voodoo mold handles moderate wind well, so I can use this lighter weight unless it's really blowing hard. I will use my 175 driving putter in strong headwinds.
-not changiing from heavy to light putters has improved my consistency as I've become very accustomed to one weight, one release, etc.

The 169 was the comprimise between the solid feel of max weight and easy to snap, finesse of lightweight, and allowed me to reduce the number of putters I carried.

That's why I prefer it.

I use heavy weights. when i think of lighter weight discs, i think of increased distance/less control, mainly for drivers.

I want maximum control of my putter and distance isn't an issue since i need it to be in air less than 40ft generally.

Heavier discs tend to smash into, and get caught by, the chains more so than lighter discs that have a tendency to get deflected more easily. I vote heavy.

i refuse to "stfu" or vote :p

I expected nothing less from you :D

I use 175 for all my putters. Aviar x for stable drives, omegass for putting and understable duties. I find that the heavier ones are least affected by the wind and work best for driving.

Depends on the putters for me. For Ions, which are "special," I prefer max weight. For more conventional putters, I like around 172 b/c it's an easy weight to find and I don't think I sacrifice much wind fighting ability without the last couple of grams (if it's really windy I'd putt with a mid anyway). Plus, you run the risk of having "illegal" discs with the max weight putters when they're actually over what they're marked. I don't like max weight putters b/c they drop just a scooch too much for me (Ions are more gyroscopic so they don't drop nearly as much as long as they're spinning right).

Nothing crazy, just my personal observations.

I use 173+ putters because I believe they tend to 'sit down' more than the lighter ones. I have a few 160ish putters, and if there's even a slight gust, it seems to get under them and carry them away.

175+ here too. At the slow speeds that putters are generally thrown, the heavier the disc, the more consistent it will be in the wind.

I know people who throw max weight putters for their main putts and for the longer jump puts will drop down to the high 160's to get the extra glide and a touch less stability.

Heavy weights are more predictable tho and of course handle wind better.

Depends on which putter we're talking about.

Putting putter - 166g, floats better than heavier weights, I notice a big difference between this and my max weight putters on longer putts. I haven't tried lighter yet, but when I do maybe I'll go down even more in weight. I use it for all putts, including windy ones...does fine in the wind IMO.

Approach putter - Heaviest I can get. 178g SSS currently, used to be a beat to hell 179 S. Not affected by the wind as much, little roll-away and they drop predictably.

Driving putters - Prefer 170-172, I find it to be a good combo of wind resistance and glide. I use 175's too because I have so many of them but I find 170-172 to be the sweet spot.

Also if you're going to talk specific weights, you gotta be re-weighing your discs. I re-weigh every single disc I throw before it goes into my bag for this reason, they're almost always off by 1-4 grams.

I carry a 150 class for short putts, calm days, and uphill puts... great glide and it is very useful IMO. I do use max weight for most 15ft+ putts, though.

i voted, but i won't explain myself. i plead the...
