[Westside] The WestSide 'King'

I have a tourny plastic king just sittin around, ive been wanting to try it but it doesnt really have a place in my bag, maybe i'll do some field tests. I will admit the euro plastics are slowly taking over my bag.

For the few times I've thrown it I've been impressed, haven't hit that killer line with it yet but even a mediocre toss and this thing is cruising 350' pretty effortlessly... which is decent for me.

I hit that sweet spot the other day in a practice round. The king cruised by the hole, and then slammed into the bank behind the hole. The basket was sitting at about 350'. Very nice disc, just hard for me to hit that sweet spot.

I had one throw with a VIP King this weekend and all I can say it that sucker flies! Maybe a touch less stable than a seasoned Z Nuke. I might have to get one.

I throw a seasoned z nuke and really like it. But I just don't trust it. I fondled one of these (VIP King) in my local shop today for a good 30 minutes before finally pulling the trigger on the purchase. I'm hoping it will fly similar right off the shelf. I'll throw it in the nuke slot for the time being along side a heavy z force. Fingers crossed.

I can't stop gushing over this disc.
It goes far and its easy to throw. I dont think it has the nose sensitivity of a Nuke, and it has better glide than a Nuke.
Its my longer Valk if I could relate it to any other disc.
Yesterday I threw it on the 500' signature finishing hole at my local course. This hole is a downhill wooded lane, 50 feet wide, with brutal disc eating brush on both sides for the first 350'.

I throw LHBH, and try to land in a dry reservoir which is 400' out and to the right. This is past the woods, and has a clear look to the pin, 100' away.

My last few throws on this hole, with my trusty Champ Valk, which is the only disc I can rely on to go downhill through the gap, have faded a little early, ending up deep in the woods, 25-50 short of the reservoir.

The King flew a nice tight flex line down and then turned towards the reservoir. All discs at this point disappear from view when you are standing on the tee, so you never really know exactly where it lands until you walk down there.
I started looking around where my better shots with the Valk usually land, didnt see it, then started working back towards the woods.
Nothing.
Next group behind me comes down and starts looking for thier discs. These guys were all younger than me, and experienced. They let me play through on the tee, which can be intimidating on this hole, having an audience, I have lost many discs here with turrible throws.

So they start looking for thier discs, farther up the reservoir towards the pin, and one dude yells back
"Hey, what color you lookin' for ? "
I said " Orange "
He said, " its up here "
Once again I threw the damn King farther than anything else ever on this hole, keepin' up with the youngin's.

I'mma gettin some more of these and not even gonna throw my new Archons right now, I'm havin' too much fun. Plus, the grip on the Tourney/Goldline plastic is exceptional, which makes the wide rim seem more comfortable.

Thank you Janne ! :hfive:

I threw my early vip so much it's a great anny disc now.

Got a fleet of fresh backups....set for a while.

i picked up a tournament king in a trade today and was pretty impressed with the few throws i got in with it. it rained here real hard last night and this morning, and it was pretty windy but i think i'm gonna like this disc a lot. i also picked up a tournament sword and liked it as well. it was a 169 and the king was a 175. how does the northman compare flightwise to the king or sword?

Some "newbs" in the beginner division at a recent mini found a king in the bushes (no name or number) and got all excited. They new it was "the only speed 14 disc!"

I mentioned it was just a marketing move to call it that, and it was reported to be about like a speed 12. I don't think they believed me.

Dude threw it (he has an arm btw) and it went pretty far, but he complained it was no further than his boss. lol

Just wanted to bump this for the disc that has far exceeded my expectations. So... throw away the numbers and just chuck it. I bought this to fill the slot of a beat up Z nuke that I had just lost confidence in. Nothing wrong with it other than its condition. So don't get me wrong, the nuke is a fine disc.
After a considerable amount of play, I've decided to keep the king in my bag for 3 reasons. The first being it's "out-of-the-box" flight. With plenty of flashing and a curious dome on it, I expected this to be as or more overstable than the numbers indicated. However the shallow grip and all the hype made me think twice about my assumption and decided to buy/throw it. It flew like a favorite wraith of mine but faster and longer. Exactly what I want. Bonus!
The second reason is because I can unload it on anyone and they'll jump for it. I mean look at the thing! (High resale probability if unimpressed) Bonus!
The third reason is for its cosmetics, (I'll probably take heat for this) But I'm a sucker for a flawless euro mold in Prestone green with a black stamp. Bonus!
In the past two weeks, it has broken in slightly but maintains its original flight so far. Despite taking a rough landing on some pavement earlier. To wrap it all up: I'm highly impressed and glad I purchased this disc. BUMP for the King!

so after throwing the king for a few weeks i think it's definitely staying in my bag. the rim feels a lot better in my hand compared to a boss or katana and i just seem to get a more consistent release with it. i am really digging this disc for forehand shots though. i mainly throw backhand but threw forehand for a while when i started and still bust out a forehand from time to time. recently i've gotten a few out in the 360-370 range which is a pretty long forehand for me. normally i can get them out a little over 300.

It took me a while to get used to it but I have now thrown past a 460 ft. downhill hole (#3 Bicentennial) and parked a 430ft. hole (#17 Veterans) more than once. I'm a fan of the easy distance the King gives.

I'm gonna say the King isn't anything like a beat-in Nuke. It has a lot less HSS and a ton of glide. And even though it isn't exactly what I was looking for, I like the easy distance so it gets to stay in my bag.

I just got my King, and can't really throw it right. It's too overstable for a weak arm like mine. It feels like I could have monster throws with it though, if I could just keep it from fading early.

FWIW, I use a Surge for distance normally. The Katana is too flippy, and I find the Nuke and TeeRex throwable, but a little more overstable than I like.

In my last disc order, I bought bot the King and the Boatman. I picked up one in VIP plastic, and the other in Tournament plastic, and think both are excellent. I'll take Westside plastics over Innova any day. I just don't know how many more discs I want to purchase, trying to find one that fits me.

The Boatman, by the way, has a really thick rim. From what I can tell, it's just a Predator, made by a different brand. The stamp on it looks awesome.
