Wii Disc Golf Game

They ought to have a controller that is shaped like a disc and can account for the amount of spin you put on your throw. You'd definitely want to have that thing strapped to your wrist though.

I'm afraid that I'd learn bad habits from playing the Wii version.

Even on rainy days, I think I'd rather do some indoor putting or watch a DVD of the pros play before I'd want to spend time playing a disc golf simulation.

I have played the Disc Golf on the Beach Sports game for the wii and its just ok, but I also saw that there is another game that has Disc Golf on it called Vacation Sports. Has anyone played that version of Disc Golf and if so, how was it?

This new game sounds interesting. Thanks for the link to the article. I wonder if it is going to feel like the real thing though I still think I would rather just go out and play rather than playing a video game. Still, good exposure for the sport.

Yeah, kind of like they did with the tennis racket, baseball bat, etc. where the wiimote just fits right in. It would be hard to resist the temptation to throw it though, especially if it were disc like!

I just bought a Wii that came with the Big Beach Sports game, and have played it a couple of times. I've noticed that I can't pull my elbow through or do the proper swing, and make it go where it is supposed to.

Also, my wife got me the DS for Christmas just so I could get the Disc Golf game for that system. It's a fun game to play at work since I sometimes have nothing better to do. I'm actually keeping track of my scores on the DS because I am a stat geek. Next I'm going to do the Wii scores just to piss my wife off. LOL

what is the disc golf game for the DS?

my kids have DS's, i'll have to check out the DG game.

am i the only one that thinks this whole thing is kinda of stupid sure guitar hero has some positives like letting kids hear good music they wouldnt otherwise hear but it also gives them the false sense that they are actually learning skills that will help them play guitar which it dosnt. how is this game gonna be any different , just like G.H it will take away valuable time people could use to learn how to play in the real world (and rainy day time they could spend on d.g.c.r) yes it will introduce people to the game but thats the only positive i can think of. if like g.H. people spend time learinng shi* that is actually easier to do in real life than on a game whats the point and how does that further the sport in a positive way if its just people playing tourneys in there bedroom, to me thats just the same as forming a fake band that has no impact on the world or music, would there ever have been a black sabbath or a ken climo if this kinda crap would have been around 30-40 years ago. myself being a real musician and a real dger might mess around with this crap at someone elses house but wouldnt spend one dime of my money on games like these, instead of buying a dg game buy a target you can set up in your living room and spend the days you cant play doing something that will actually help your game.

Man chill the hell out...you sound like a total ass

It's not like most of us would be playing this game for hours on end or anything

I agree with your sentiments. Here's another viewpoint though: I love Guitar Hero because I have no musical ability whatsoever. Never have and never will. So Guitar Hero blaring on the surround sound is about the closest I'll ever get to being a rock star...and I'm fine with that. A DG game could be the same thing to someone that isn't necessarily the greatest disc golfer or really interested in getting out there and doing it. At the very least, like you mentioned, it might generate more interest in the sport.

I managed to read through most of your post. Maybe they should have a Wii Grammar game and you could learn to use some punctuation. :)

There are a number of problems with what I believe is your argument.

First, I don't think anyone besides very young children think they're learning guitar from games like Guitar Hero. In general, people have a pretty good distinction between playing video games and the equivalent real life activity. (However, the more recent games, like Rock Band and Guitar Hero: World Tour, which include a drum kit, do come a little closer to letting you experience whether or not you have much innate rhythm. You can learn a little something from it, and even some "real" drummers practice with it.)

Second, the point of the game is to have fun, not to teach. It has a potential side benefit of hopefully raising awareness for people about the sophistication of disc golf. I'm hoping the game is capable of distinguishing between different discs, throws, wind conditions, and many of the other factors that go into each and every shot. In which case, non disc-golfers may come to appreciate the sport more. But that's not the point of the game. The point is simply to have fun.

Finally, the game is going to be great for us dedicated golfers. Am I going to sit inside on Saturday afternoon and play on my Wii? Of course not. But if it is Thursday night around 11pm, and I'm itching to play, I would love to fire up the game. The game is available 24/7, with or without friends, and you don't have to drive anywhere. So I bet there will be a lot of us playing at night. Assuming of course that it is any good.

On that front, I'm hoping the Wii PDGA game is very good. I was involved in making a Wii disc golf game a couple of years ago (I'm a professional game developer). They grabbed the license, so I hope they really do a good job with it. And I hope it ships with an extra strong wrist strap.

i for one played madden nfl 95 religiously so i could one day join the ranks of the all-time all madden team.

to cc0049 and tiggertooth id like to say thankyou for explaining why you think im wrong or why you think im an ass with something to back up your arguement, instead of being childish like the other two before you and just be insulting without any substence you give me reason to think there are still people that understand the art of debate . and heres some extra punktuation for the period police .,;:'"/[]'..,..

A debate is unnecessary in this topic. People have opinions on a bunch of different things and sometimes i dont want to share mine when i dont think its gonna be needed. Most ppl will welcome some armchair discin' while others(like me) are still gonna watch tv or hang with friends. Also i dont like arguing with opinionated ppl.

Just play the life game. People get so obsessed with video games and we end up wasting our time.

Go outside - get some sun. If its dark/bad weather... go outside and battle the elements. Life is too short to stare at a screen and wish you were playing DG when you have the power to go out and do it.

JMO.
