    "Nebula" Style Dye Tutorial

It was a random thought. Initially I thought one big ring on the rim and nebula in the middle. As soon as I got that one done more were just a necessity. Thanks.

    "Nebula" Style Dye Tutorial

Most recent I started with some rings, 5 of them, in chartreuse. Then prepared the "nebula" bed in baby wash (very thick) using iDye with laundry detergent and a minimal amount of acetone. Could not tell you the mixture as I always do them by sight. Anyway I love how this turned out.

I have the same problem with most of the spike it colors, except chartreuse. I have heard quick coat is better, but have not tried them yet. I did get some of the markers fromSkippyFish and have the same results. Chartreuse is great, the others not so much.

    "Nebula" Style Dye Tutorial

Awesome That is fantastic. I am hoping I can at least put one down this weekend. I have been so busy. Just to keep partially contributing at least, I am going for the look of a supernova gas cloud picture I saw online. I am sure it will take more than one bed to accomplish. I am going to...

    "Nebula" Style Dye Tutorial

Goodness that looks like it will be fantastic. Are those still the Prosperse dyes? I cannot wait to see it. I need to get back into the experimenting again, but work has my brain fried. Audits are the bane of my existence.

Jacquard iDye Poly -- Rit Replacement

I attempted to use it for a pinter on dye and all my test spots came out purplish green as well, so I used old RIT instead. It helps when you have some of both. I have not tried leaving it on longer yet, but one of these days I will get around to it. My guess is Odyssey has it right on needed a...

You may also try something that spins at an even slow pace. I personally use a turntable set at 33 rpm. I use regular paintbrushes to apply the rings, using larger brushes for larger rings.

Hmmm, I wonder why the difference in results. Yellow (chartreuse) gave me the best results, even dying over a peach colored disc and making it yellow where I spun it on. The other colors I tried, pink, blue, purple and green, all seemed to dry to a "crust" and leave empty spaces in the rings...

The second dip made a world of difference. I really like the way it layered in. I can tell by the edges I need a plate that fits the disc better. This one is clearly allowing an uneven build up around the edges. I'll keep the current plate for discs with flatter tops and get a more concave one...

Unfortunately, I think the pink resettled to the bottom of the bed. Very little pink took to the disc at all leaving a huge white space in the middle. I do like the look though and will probably dye it again for a second layer of color, maybe using punky. I will try the second layer in baby...

When I rubbed on it after I got home nothing came off on my finger. That's around 8 hours after I washed off the dye. Seems like it will be there for awhile, but only time will truly tell. I currently have a detergent bed down with a lot of the pink and the orange and one of the blues from...

Picture from CD test So, here is the picture of my additional tests. The one on the left is solvent mix 1, the middle is the original test mixed on the disc and the one on the right is the no solvent mix 2.

There are a few threads relating to Tulip dyes, all with the same basic dull results. I would agree it is in your best interest to change it for Idye poly if you can. I will be trying out the candle dye in a Nebula style test ASAP. Only color I have is pink, so I may be using it in conjunction...

So I did some additional testing, but in my rush to get to work today I did not take a picture. I will post one later showing the two new tests on the following mixes. Mix 1 (solvent) 1 tbsp detergent 40 drops candle dye (overkill really) 5 drops acetone Mix 2 (no solvent) 1 tbsp detergent 8...

No, after a thorough washing it was still there. The whole circle is flat and smooth. I have had some worm dyes do the dried color thing before. This did not turn out like that.
