I had the same problems when I started throwing. Since I've played a bunch in the last few months I've developed a nice new callase on my finger. Still gets tender from time to time though. I found that it all started when I was throwing newer discs that had a sharper edge to it.

Do you recommend working on the walk up now or just keep practicing stand still?

So basically the purpose of this drill isn't so much the pivot action on the heel as much as getting the muscle memory down for weight transfer? Am I correct on that statement? Because if I'm understanding this correctly, that's a great drill!
