The Real Face of Disc Golf

Denny, I'm sure many readers have appreciated your most practical insights. I share many of your frustrations as well. The disc golf community is fortunate to have enthusiasts such as yourself who care about our wonderful sport enough to take the time to do what you can to grow the sport safely...

    Another excellent point David.

    Recommended fairway width?

'Meadow grass' of a foot or so used as rough (lining fairways) can hide errant discs especially drives of significant distance. I have used stakes with various colored ribbons attached to the top in prominent rough landing areas to provide an easy to locate landmark near the off track throws.

    Executing The Dream

Ive always been intrigued by the variety of hole setups possible when bi-directional considerations are explored from the get go. Sometimes the work. load increases dramatically, but if the time and energy is available, it pays off for years to come. Of course, with a strong design concept, the...

    Is this too tight?

I would endeavor to avoid any interaction with the less than friendly neighbors. The tee seems a bit too close to the "ET's"(early trees). Perhaps the tee could be adjusted to restrict the left of the tee shot factor even more. Sometimes just a few feet left, right, up or back can make a big...

    Is this too tight?

tight gaps How far is the green from the opening? How many throws get through the gap from a player of the caliber for who the course is designed for?Note: I've been involved in playing and design since 1978 and experience tells me that your hole signs are too close to the outside edge of the...

Review by Shade in course Sewee Outpost

3.50 star(s) "It's All Good"!!! All of the previous 'Pros' are dittoed here...Personally, I like the variety of holes within the general wooded motif. Some of the fairways are very tight, some of the rough is very penile and some holes contain both. But, every player can devise a strategy to negotiate the...

Ask John Houck about Course Design & Development

John, I am in the process of rerouting a fairway on the Trophy Lakes course in Charleston (SC) and have a question about ob lines. The new fairway, a par four, is located in the general vacinity of areas occupied by non disc golf itmes (my tent {home}, etc). I will be installing ob lines on both...

    distance markers

Footage markers... In 2004 we planted footage markers in the center of many of our longer fairways to help players have an idea of how far they were from the targets and / or how far they had thrown their tee shots. Feedback was varied from loved the idea to did not like the distraction and...
