Solid Woods Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 19, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Hollows - North is one of 2 course located in the same woods ( South ) . There are 2 separate lots for these courses , and if playing both courses , you want to park in this lot . South has dirt , and a long walk to the 1st hole . There were no visible bathrooms here . I played with local disc golf enthusiast and teacher , Niles on this course .
The Equipment - Holes have 2 good cement tees per hole . They even rubber tee pads at some of the holes for the newbies or kids . They have good descriptive tee signs at both pads . They also have Next Tee signs with the hole number to help navigate you . There is a nice kiosk with a map for both courses near hole #1 The baskets are white Dynamic Veterans and in good shape . There are some nice bridges on this course . Some nice benches and trash receptacles dot the course , too .
The Landscape - The course was fairly clean and not too many sticks or small stumps on or near the fairway . there is a pretty good amount of elevation on the North course , just not as extreme as South . All of the holes take place in the woods , which have mostly mature trees . There are a couple of places where there is some good overgrowth , and a couple of long dropoffs on the sides of a couple of fairways . Not near the gully action here as South . The area was dry and the creeks dried up when I was here .
The Highlights - #1 starts you off with a downhill drive ( 279', 331' ) left to right .#9 ( 394 ' 496' ) is a tight fairway run with a tree jail guarding the green . #11 ( 263', 407' descends to a green that has a big dropoff surrounding the back and sides of the basket . for your risk/reward approach .
Signature Hole - Has to be #18 ( 251' , 353' ) Playing longer than it is , the fairway is a long uphill drive to a basket that sits on one of 2 different mounds at the top .
The time - It took a little over an hour to play the North side of the course . A group of 4 will take about 2 hours 15 minutes .
A big plus is that you can park at the North lot , and enter the South Course at the end of #11 . There is a path to your left as you approach the basket . Take it and it will lead you to #12 South . You can play that course in a loop , then return to play #12 on the North course and skip long walks to the #1 South tee , driving to the dirt South lot , for 36 total and different holes .
This is a nice woods , and the course is very popular with the locals . Make sure to allot extra time during weekends or evenings .
Also bring water , because the course doesn't loop back until you finish hole #18 .

Cons:

#1 Lack of Wow Factor - Other than the 18th hole , the course fails to blow you away with scenic or memorable holes ( still a solid play )
#2 Disc Risk - moderate . Ricochets from blind shots to baskets can cause rollaways 100 ' or more from where you think it is . There is also some overgrowth that will hide discs . Niles says that since the course is in the woods , leaves will bury a disc in the fall .
#3 inclement weather - If it rains here , or is icy or snowy , this course is going to be tough to play since it is mostly dirt . It looks like the course might retain some water .
#4 popularity . The word is that the holes are going to be backed up during peak times and on nice days . Make sure to clear your calendar for this as you might be here a while .
Prepare for a very long and unavoidable uphill walk from 17 to the 18 tee .It was brutal .
Spray bug repellent at least during the summer months . Bugs will pick at you during rounds here .

Other Thoughts:

I thought that North was less challenging , but more popular than South . I think that more money was pumped into the North Course , giving it better signage a better lot , and the kiosk .I wouldn't complain . You can't go too many places in New Hampshire where you can park your car and play 36 holes of continuous disc golf . Multiple tees pads , Alternating pin positions . What more can you ask for ?! The course is solid , lots of variety on a technical woods , where precision is at a premium .

Make sure before you play here the you check wit the local disc golf shop " Breakin' Chains , just 3 minutes away , for information on league play and tournament dates , so you don't waste a trip . They have a great supply of discs and merchandise , and sponsor a lot of tournaments locally and help out the Hollows courses .

My Recommendation - This is the more favorable course for newbies or intros .and 1 discers Not a great date or family course ( 5354' - 6448' ) make it pretty long . Locals love this course , and it is a fun course for the intermediates thru the pros , who can duck into the South course . Not as close to the Expressways as some of the other courses , it is still something to venture to for the traveler flying into Manchester Airport . Course Collectors will like the 2 for 1 stop to bag the courses , then travel up to Beauty Hill ( 3 courses ) or jump on Rt 101 or back to the highway . If you like technical woods courses , don't pass up this opportunity while in New Hampshire . PLAY IT !!!

Good Beginner Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 24, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good place for beginners
Good signage
Nice people

Cons:

Hidden baskets
Wicked mucky spots (particularly Hole 17)

Other Thoughts:

I've played both Hollows courses. This course is fairly level with no big ravines, like Hollows South. While the baskets are hidden on most holes, once you know the course, playing it is fairly straightforward. We met someone at the first hole, who showed us the course while playing a round with us. Between the 2 Hollows courses, I like South better.

Technical Masterpiece 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 7, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course requires a wide variety of different shots and angles to shoot well. The hollows does a great job providing many different challenging lines for every hole without requiring to much distance. The course is very well maintained and has many different course configurations ranging from pitch and putt, to 1000 rated difficulty. The difficulty of this course comes from avoiding trees rather than distance, but it does so in a fair way.

Cons:

Very few opportunities to open up a big drive if any. One doesn't have to throw very far to be good at the hollows therefore I don't think it is the best over all test for all skills.

Great Challenge 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 11, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Challenging deep-woods lines
- Multiple pads and basket locations on every hole
- Exceptionally well-kept tee pads and green areas
- Marked putting circles
- Clearly marked layout/OB lines where relevant
- Great warm-up area (Putting basket and throwing net at 1st tee, and a softball field adjacent is ideal for throwing a few if available)

Cons:

Most issues are seasonal:
Summer - Mosquitoes. Bring decent bug spray and you're good.
Fall/Winter - DEEP leaves on the ground. Easy to lose discs mid-fairway.
Spring - Good bit of mud and some standing water that exceeds where the normal water lines are. Wear the right shoes.

Other issues:
- TONS of people. Peak times (after 4 on weekdays, any time weekends) can see a group+ on every single hole. This is more of a problem with lack of courses around. Hollows 2, Birch Park in Amherst, and the rumored McIntyre Ski Area courses will create some relief.
- The course leans pretty heavily towards Lefty backhand/Righty forehand players. The lines are pretty locked in on most holes, so if you're a RHBH primary like me, you either need to learn forehand/lefty, or try to force the "local routes" which involve challenging the rough in most cases.

Other Thoughts:

This has been my home course since returning to play regularly in the summer of 2017. Given my frequency there (3-4 rounds/week during the summer), the throwing lines are great. I've found that by playing regularly at The Hollows, my tight tunnel drives, flexes, and forehands have improved tenfold. I can see how this would be a frustrating course for players stopping in for one or two rounds a season. Learning the turn/fade points to stay out of jail took me a solid 10-15 rounds, and I still end up in deep rough a couple times a round. But the point of McCabe's design is to be a challenging championship level course, so having to pay for minor mistakes should be expected when playing at The Hollows.

Emac Woods 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 7, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Super nice tee pads.Level. Good grip even when a little wet. Two pads on most holes.
MINT DD Veteran Baskets (Best chains out there IMO)
Dual pin placements on each hole (A & B, one basket)
Seating on just about every hole.
Lots of options off the tee.
Most lines are fair (tight as can be, but fair)
Greens are blend of flat and fast.
Greens open up allowing for chance to score on most holes.
Nice tee signs with layout, par and distance.
Good flow to course. Easy navigation.
Next tee signs help with direction.
Good blend of shots needed here. Never feel like "I've played this one before".
Trash cans.
Port a pot onsite.

Cons:

A few times, things get crazy tight and you have to say "WTF".
Favors right hand flick, left hand backhand.
Some questionable OB.
Trash bins were overflowing full.
Pretty much playing in the woods all day. No real open up and air it out here.

Other Thoughts:

Enjoyed playing here very much. The tight lines challenged my game and didn't frustrate me all that much.
Love those Veteran baskets with the Emac logo. Nice touch!
The blue tee to long pin ( long pins were in when I played) is a difficult layout. It will challenge you for sure. White to long pin is no picnic, but a little less demanding. Manchester is making strides with this course and the rumor of another 18 coming soon. 36 holes in these woods is going to be super sweet. Can't wait!

Fun course with interesting shot options 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 6, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

* Lots of thoughtful cutting of trees to open various shot lines
* Easy to find discs, even when you land off the fairway
* Good tee signage and pads

Cons:

* Long pin layout felt very RHFH with the RHBH shot choices requiring very tight lines
* Missing/broken tee signs on two holes
* Lots of garbage

Other Thoughts:

This was my favourite course of the many played in VT/NH/NY in the last week. It's clear that thought went into cutting trees to ensure that even if you hit a tree or wind up in the rough you still have a chance to get to the basket. I've played many other courses in the last week that were woods courses but if you ever got off the fairway you were screwed. That's not the case here, which makes it way more fun for a new player.

I also appreciated there were obvious route options off the tee on many holes, including a few that tempted you even though they were tight shots through trees. The downside though was it felt like at least half the holes favored the RHFH throw, which for a new player isn't a strong option.

Unfortunately there was a lot of garbage on the course when I played today, everything from half-empty gallon jugs of water to broken yogurt containers to lots of bottle caps. Shame, since the setting is so beautiful.

"Sleeper" Hollows 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 26, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Pretty layout, great use of terrain
-Excellent signage
-Concrete tee pads, 2 sets at most holes
-New DD baskets
-Scorecards at kiosk before #1
-Good variety for a 100% wooded course

Cons:

-Some challenging lines due to layout of trees
-Lots of players out there, even early on a Saturday AM; this speaks to the lack of courses in the area
-Fallen leaves presented a challenge when locating shots

Other Thoughts:

As suggested in my review title, this course is a real sleeper. Located right in the heart of Manchester, it utilizes the topography in a challenging but fair way, and has some of the best signage I've seen on any course. Was in the area for my daughters soccer tournament right after Thanksgiving, and I'm glad I got up early today to check it out. Not a course for beginners, but a great test for intermediate- pro players.

Cons:

- Garbage. There were a lot of beer cans, bottles, and other garbage on the course; I will take a grocery bag next time to pick up what I can
- Some trees in the fairways that could be taken out
- The walk from hole 17 to 18 is longer than many of the holes themselves

Lots of potential! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 14, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

+Solid new course in an under-served disc golf region
+City did a great job clearing fairway and fringes of brush and debris.
+Pre-cast concrete tee pads are the best around!
+Lots of variety here with long, short, and recreational tees as well as short/long pin positions (rotating)

Cons:

-Several holes are "throw and hope," particularly from long tees. To varying degrees, they include 2, 8, 11, 13, and 15.
-Many tee pads are poorly positioned with respect to the intended line OR have obstacles right next to or in front of the tee that are frustrating if not dangerous: 4 long (sign), 5 long (tree), 12 long (tree), 15 long (wtf?), 17 short (tree).
-Signage on long tees only. If you're playing shorts and you want to know distances or fairway shape, turn around and walk back to the long tees.
-Not particularly scenic or memorable.
-Aside from hole 3 where it adds challenge to an "easy" hole, use of OB is frustrating and unnecessary. OB's on 5, 6, 7 punish bad kicks more-so than aggressive shots or "cheater lines". Your shot selection is no different with/without the OB it just turns bogeys into double-bogeys when you miss.
-The difference between "short" and "long" pin positions is almost negligible on several holes and doesn't really change your shot choice(s): 2, 5, 6, 15, 18

Other Thoughts:

Old DD baskets were the worst-catching permanent baskets I'd ever played on with a high tendency for dead-center spitbacks. New DD baskets recently installed are a huge improvement and definitely professional-quality.

With minor tweaks this course could be really great, in my opinion. My rating would jump by a point or more just by a) losing a few more trees to create reasonable fairways for the "throw and hope" holes and b) reposition the teepads to align with the fairways where necessary.

The city has thrown big resources into creating this facility and there efforts are both evident and appreciated. In the short time it's been open it's drawn lots of traffic and introduced many new players to the sport. I wouldn't travel to play this course if it weren't in my backyard but my fingers are crossed that it gets the adjustments it needs and deserves.

Bad course, Excellent effort 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 12, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Beautiful! Every tee has two great concrete pads, a bench each, an informative nicely illustrated sign that is an A+ guide to each hole, a broom on a hook to sweep each pad, another (3rd) beginner tee up close, beautiful baskets - uniform, numbered, white, with course logo on each. Excellent parking area with putting basket. Beautiful terrain...for a hike or a mountain bike ride, or maybe two holes. Excellent steep undulations and hummocks abound, could be great for a game. Yes it was buggy, very, but mostly in the swampy searches for discs pinged into the woods off trees - the cons.

Cons:

The trees. I love trees. I see markers on some that look like they may come down. I'd prefer not to lose any trees in this beautiful pristine area by the manchester river. But the course is unplayable. Every hole is marred by, oh say ten to forty trees on the fairway. Not thin targets through trees, those too, love those. Not branches or obstacles with "personality." So dense I don't see how this was approved. PDGA? C'mon. Let's hear from the real pros after a number of tourneys.

In conclusion, full respect for getting the land in the city area for free use and access, to the designer for completing this serious effort, to all the hard work and care that did and still goes in. Courses are so rare, you take what dedicated park land "available" you can get. They got so much so right. Their heads and hearts are in the right place. The course, even if you love woodsy courses, is not.

Other Thoughts:

Perhaps they can move some holes to the edge of the field for some variation. Can't fault course for baskets, but faulting baskets: What is with the trend toward the 4" wide band around the top? It's 4" of no basket for no reason. Is there a shelf on an NBA rim? Preferable is same wire width of basket wire.

I think the answer is more trees down. Baskets, like 18, can always be moved. A remodel in a few years.

Quiet (for a city) and Fun 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 11, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Wow! I was not expecting to enjoy this course as much as I did. They did a great job on this course and it's FREE. 18 hole course with mostly two concrete tees (long and short) at each hole. Brooms to sweep the pads are a nice touch. The signs show the possible 2 baskets at each hole but I only saw one basket mostly. Course is laid out well. Tee signs were accurate, depicting the flight path and the 2 basket locations. Well marked next tee signs help first timers around the course. There are now benches at every tee box.
The course allowed for a great mix of shots. My wife played a lot of rollers, which did surprisingly well, on some holes! You can score well, if you have a good tee shot or sadly in my case, make a great recovery shot. A good course for beginners and experienced players. Some flight paths are tight but not bad. This course will teach you that you need a variety of shots making skills. Not quite as rough physically as Fort Devens' courses (Ayers, MA), but there are plenty of obstacles and elevation changes to make you work for a good score.
The course builders did a great job with sturdy bridges over the several creeks along the way and in some spots, nice staircases to help with the elevation changes. Although they clearly cut many trees to make the course, they left plenty behind for your discs to find. Plus you'll hear many birds and see plenty of squirrels.
IF you throw well and avoid the trees, Pars and Bogies are the norm here. If your tee shot hits a tree, you'll need to recover. If your recovery hits yet another tree, well, a double bogey or worse can mar an otherwise good scorecard. Birdies are possible, but will take some skill (or a LOT of luck) and a good arm. Basket locations are mostly challenging but not impossible with the right approach and flight path. Made for "fun" rounds.

Cons:

In the spring there is some water running through the course but probably not high enough to lose a disc. Bugs in the summer. Bring bug spray. As this course is totally in the woods, bring an appropriate colored disc in the fall. Red-Orange-Brown discs are probably not the best choices in the fall.
The parking lot is not paved and you need to go slow with low clearance cars. It's not bad, just be careful.
Stumps, branches, trees, rocks and sticks are everywhere - your rollers will "help" point them out. Watch your footing and wear appropriate shoes.

Other Thoughts:

1 port-a-potty at the start, which is a nice although it didn't seem to be quite level (or perhaps I was getting dizzy after the round).
Met several other groups on the course. All very friendly.
Definitely a course that I will play at many times.
With the long and short tees, you can have different looks at most holes. The short tees provided sufficient challenge for most players. Some of the long tees require a nice long throw to catch up.
I saw no trash on the course, but sadly no trash containers either.
The bugs were not bad today. Not enough of a breeze inside the woods to affect them, however it's been a fairly dry spring which has probably helped.

Nothing Hollow about the Hollows 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 14, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is an 18 hole course with two tees to each hole. Concrete tees, recently poured, are in terrific shape. Baskets are the DD baskets, also in great shape, and catch okay strong side. The course, designed by a former PDGA men's world champion, features a great mix of lefty, righty, and straight holes. You can score well if you execute off the tee. Some baskets are tricky, especially 18. It's only 250 from the short, but it plays a lot longer with the elevation change and the pin on a hill. No outside obstacles (walking trails, playgrounds, etc) to interfere with the course. Tee signs are accurate, depicting the hole, and next tee signs are noticeable after you play a hole. Hard to get lost here. Some pin placements offer unique putting challenges (11 and 18 come to mind).

Cons:

While many of the holes are good holes, and put together make a good course, this course lacks that one "must play" hole. In the summer it gets buggy, and in the fall the leaves can get pretty bad.

Other Thoughts:

The locals have really taken this and ran with it, and it won't be long before the big names will be coming here to tackle one of southern New Hampshire's newer courses. If I am in the area again, I will be back, and if you're visiting New Hampshire, come here and challenge yourself from either tee. You'll really like what the Hollows has to offer.

Much Needed Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 27, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

*Free is for me...especially if it's decent.
•It fills a void of disc courses in southern NH that is badly needed. Greater Manchester residents' best options were to go to Pelham, Wilton, or Canterbury and those all have their pluses, but it's nice to have someplace closer that is nice and free. Did I mention that it's free?
•It has a practice basket in the parking lot near the 1st tee.
•Quick on/off of the highway. ~3 minutes from I-293.
•Because of its shape/design, you can adjust your round to accommodate your needs. You can drop down from many of the front 9 baskets to back 9 tees if you're pressed for time, lacking the energy, or the kids aren't enjoying themselves.
•The city directors are very much behind it and alternate the baskets between locations fairly regularly.

Cons:

•I'm the first person to say that various insect life are to be expected when playing a game that takes place in the woods, but the mosquitoes here are exceptional. Bring bug spray in the late spring/early summer months when there are still wet areas. Once things dry out, it's not as bad.
•I know this was supposed to be a championship course designed by an actual champion, but many casual players might find certain holes daunting. Many of the rear tee boxes don't have very clear lanes, and the lanes that are there are very tight. Holes 2, 7, 9, 13, 15, and 17 from the back tees are more of a throw-and-hope situation.
•I've seen worse amounts of trash at other courses, but fixing a garbage/recycle container every couple holes (and emptying it somewhat regularly) would help a lot. Currently there are some at the first tee and at the junction of 8/9/13/14, but other than that, not much.
•I'm not sure how the pallets are going to hold up with navigating the water/mud between 17 & 18 once next spring comes. A more permanent crossing aid should be put in.
•Not to whine or reveal my skill level, but given some of the tight tee shots, some of the pars should be adjusted for the rear tee/B basket combo positions, namely 11 and 18, and to a lesser degree 9, 10.
•Due to its popularity and depending on when you go, you're either hoping to be let through by the group in front of you or having to let the group/person in back of you play through....sometimes several times per round. Not really a complaint since you often get to meet nice people and see how they approach the holes, but it can disrupt your flow sometimes.

Other Thoughts:

I'm too grateful to have a free course close to where I live to focus on the things I don't like. In the 5 months since it opened, it has already gotten pretty stomped down and broken in. The casual player can find a challenging but reasonable round from the short tees.

Bring boots and bug spray 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 25, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

1) FREE
2) Has own entrance and a huge parking lot dedicated solely to the course. (Low-lying cars be cautious, they are very bumpy)
3) The kiosk near hole 1 is well crafted and contains a layout of the course as well as upcoming tournaments and events.
4) There is a locked wooden box next to the kiosk that serves as the lost and found for discs.
5) Porta-potty near hole 1 (Be aware that this is the only porta-potty on the whole course)
6) Decent course flow
7) Two sets of tees and baskets on most holes
8) Tests your skills- it's a pro-level course from the concrete tees and it's beginner friendly from the front tees.
9) Decent signage
10) Good mix of left and right-turning holes. Good mix of distance ranging from very short to very long.
11) Quiet location besides the train.
12) Baskets are typically easy to locate and seem to catch well
13) Direct view of baskets on most holes.
14) Nice practice area
15) Nice concrete pro tees
16) Nice baskets
17) Some quality ace runs
18) Friendly locals
19) Fun for new players and for pros

Cons:

1) Not yet finished
2) Very dusty- the course is entirely in the woods and is very dusty when dry. Discs will get very dirty. This will slowly become less of an issue after players pack down the course.
3) Can get very muddy. - lots of low-lying stagnant swamps and wetlands that will eat discs if not followed carefully.
4) No benches- currently there are no benches at either the pro tees and the forward tees. Although, there is plenty of room for benches to be placed.
5) Lack of bridges- some holes have nice bridges but the course needs more, especially over all of the mud and ditches.
6) The waking path from 17 to 18 is very muddy and is currently barely covered with small wooden pallets. The walk to 18 is then very long and uphill/steep. Hole 18 also plays sharply uphill.
7) The forward tees and made of a very slippery rubber. They are also short and they make run-ups awkward. Brooms would be very helpful on the front tees.
8) There is no signage on the forward tees- The pro tees have great signage but the forward tees don't. I assume many more people will play from the forward tees there, so the tee signs won't be easily referenced to everyone. This will force people to find the signs and have to walk backwards to read them.
9) All woods- no open holes or fields
10) Discs get very dirty- every basket is surrounded by sand, so expect up shots and putts to get very dirty unless they find the basket. This can be easily accommodated with wood chips surrounding each basket.
11) No wood chips- it seems as if many trees were cut and just thrown off into the woods. These trees could have been cut into woodchips and spread throughout the course. They would especially be helpful on the dirt mounds on holes 14 and 18. These mounds are cool and challenging but are very dirty and steep.
12) No garbage cans- there is a bunch of trash cans on holes 1 and 9, but the course needs more cans on more holes. I've seen a lot of trash left around at nearly every tee box.
13) Confusing navigation between some holes.
14) Tight, narrow lanes- most holes are very tight and technical. Some holes seem as if there is no true lane and is basically a throw and get lucky type of hole. (Ex. Holes 11, 13, 15) Definitely a challenging course, with LOTS of trees and many just waiting to grab your drive and throw it far from the fairway.
15) Several very steep walking paths
16) Stumps, branches, trees, and sticks everywhere- watch your footing.
17) Hole 9 is too far away from the entrance to accommodate quick 9 hole rounds. If you want to end up back where you started, you must play all 18 holes.
18) The mosquitoes are trecherous. Make sure you bring your bug spray, this course is loaded.

Other Thoughts:

This course has a ton of potential. Once more cutting is done and benches are installed this will be a very fun course. The course challenges every aspect of your game and requires a huge mix of shots/plays.

Most of the above cons should hopefully be addressed with course improvements and volunteer efforts. A lot of hard work was clearly put into building the course and hopefully it won't get neglected.

The Hollows is a challenging wooded course that seems to be very popular already. The course has a lot of potential and might someday be an amazing course. In the meantime it is still a work in progress but it should definitely be checked out.

P.S. The bugs are very bad (watch out for ticks)

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 8, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Great design given the land they had to work with
- Great level of difficulty. I am usually a par player and have yet to break +4 on this course. Not too say its too tough but great inspiration to improve and learn the course
- Great mix of distance, left/right turning holes, and elevation change. You will definitely use every disk in your bag
- 2 tee placements per hole
- well marked signage, easy navigation
- Convenient, quite location.

Cons:

- Not yet finished. Still freshly excavated so its a bit muddy, a few blue tees need to be finished and more bridges over water/mud/ditches would be fantastic.
- baskets. While yes they are very visible and stable, I cant stand the foreheads.
- All woods, I always enjoy a hole or 2 in a field simply for a change of scenery and the ability to drive harder than normal.
- Can get very buggy on the wetter holes (bring bug spray!)
- The tee signage has been placed at the blue tees (not yet completed). Now I know this is somewhat traditional, but I feel like the majority of the players are playing white tees, making them have to find the sign and walk back to view it. Why not have them at white so they are easily referenced to everyone?

Other Thoughts:

I am so excited for them to finally put in a course in Manchester and am pleasantly surprised at the quality of course they built. When I heard about it being planned, I expected them to cut some brush, put poorly placed baskets and tees and never touch it again. On the contrary, they brought in a pro to design it and really invested some money to build a fantastic course!

I am excited to play the course when it has been broken in and some of the logging scars have started to heal. Its in a beautiful piece of forest and thus far, hasn't been inundated with any Manchester low lifes' breaking glass and spraying graffiti. PLEASE KEEP IT THAT WAY!!!!! Carry in, Carry out, and help preserve one of the last remaining pieces of clean woods Manchester has to offer!

Bring all your disks (your gonna need them), bug spray and your walking legs and enjoy!!

This is how you open a course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 30, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Well defined fairways that have been manicured better than many courses that have been open for 6+ months. This course had its ribbon cutting ceremony the day before I played it.

Good mix of deuceable holes in the 200 foot range, and proper par 3's (drive, approach, putt) averaging around 450 feet

The new Dynamic Discs baskets glow white in the woods making for easy identification from a distance. The baskets seem to catch well, particularly on more confident putts.

Municipal street signs directing players to the next tee emphasize the effort and funding put into the course.

Cons:

Crazy amount of mosquitos due to low-lying wet lands.

Basic growing pains for a new course, such as muddy walking paths barely covered with wood pallets (namely hole 17-18) and confusing navigation between some holes (hole 17 tee is right next to hole 4's basket with no obvious signage). Trail at end of course leads out to baseball field instead of parking lot

Short tees made of very slippery fly pad material

Other Thoughts:

Had the opportunity to play the longest layout currently available and felt it really challenged all aspects of my game without being unfair as to hitting lines.

Future upgrade suggestions are solely cosmetic, primarily benches, bridges, and trash cans (currently trash bags on most holes) .

Good use of elevation changes throughout and 18's basket placement will leave you wanting revenge on the course. This has the potential to be a trademark New England course very shortly

Bring your bug spray 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 30, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

1. FREE
2. Ample dedicated parking lot.
3. Porta-let near hole 1
4. Enthusiastic and approachable course management
5. Excellent signage for rear tees and directions to following tees.
6. Good course flow
7. Wide and easy to follow walking paths.
8. Plenty of room for benches at the tee areas.
9. Very much a "placement" course with well protected baskets.
10. Room for expansion, possibly another course.

Cons:

1. Forward tee pads: They are raised above ground and short enough to make long run-ups awkward. Caveat: When the baskets are in the short position, run-ups are helpful on only a few holes on the back 9. Most baskets are reachable with a stand-still throw.
2. Some of the long positions for tees and baskets just make the hole a little longer rather than change the hole.
3. The walk from 17 to 18 is long and uphill and could accommodate another hole or two. Hole 18 then also plays uphill.
4. No benches at the tee areas.
5. The swampy area behind hole 17 is difficult to navigate. There are pallets but needs something more substantial like a raised walk made of 2x8s

Other Thoughts:

This is a fun wooded course that accommodates all skill levels and seems to be very popular with new players of all ages. It is managed and maintained by the parks and rec. dept. whose chiefs are enthusiastic about golf. The water icon might be misleading - most of the water is in the ravines that run along the sides of fairways and between some of the holes. There are a few mucky and swampy areas that you definitely want to avoid, but it is fairly easy to do so. It is moderately hilly except for the walk from hole 17 to 18 which is long and uphill. Experienced players looking for a challenge will find the short tees to short basket locations a little boring. As of the time of this review, the rear tees have not yet been installed but I believe will be 5x12 concrete, will be installed in the coming weeks and their locations should make for a challenging course. Some of the above cons will be addressed by course improvements and volunteer efforts. There are more challenging, "longer" courses nearby, but it is nice to see DG growing in the state of NH. The Hollows is a welcome addition to the Greater Manchester NH area.

FYI: This course has the most mosquitoes I've ever encountered on any course I've played on the East Coast. They are treacherous.

This one can be a lot of fun - once it's finished 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 20, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Parking area
- Short hole distances
- Blue/white + Ts/baskets
- Direct view of baskets in most cases
- Not too hilly, easy yet interesting terrain actually

Cons:

- Not yet finished
- Many trees need to come down - as now marked by ribbons
- Deep & high water beds
- Can eat discs if not careful
- Ground a lil' soft and humid

Other Thoughts:

This one has potential, wait til more trees are down and alternative tees/baskets are installed. This is like 4 courses in one. Easy-intermediate level. No wide open space but not too tight like Pelham either.
