The first time I tried to throw a RHFH I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder and the disc landed a few feet in front of me  That was a couple of months ago and I still can't throw FH without pain and no distance. I also can't do some lifting in certain directions and think I may have torn a ligament or something. I can still throw RHBH with just a little pain

Has anyone experienced something like this and if so will it mend itself in time? Can you develop a complete game without throwing FH?

Don't ask here. Go see a doctor and find out what is wrong with your shoulder.

Wow, these threads are pretty common. "I think I have a serious health concern, what do you guys on DGCR think I should do?" I am a nurse jmackie, go see a doctor. Good luck.

See a doctor for medical advice - the internet experts will not be able to diagnose you!

With regards to a game with no forehand shot, I think it is possible. You are handicapped, but it all depends on how you are able to overcompensate with you other shots. I have no forehand, I mess with trying to throw it, but just can't get it. I do throw OH - don't know if your injury allows you to do this or not. The OH throw finishes opposite my BH throw. My anhyzer also is improving. That said, if I was playing a competitive round with someone who has a competent BH & FH, I would most likely lose...

I injured my shoulder about a year ago while playing tackle football with my nephews. Fortunately it was my left shoulder (I throw righty). Yeah, I went to the doctor anyway...

If it doesn't get better I'll go see my family doctor but he'll probably recommend a specialist and that's where it gets expensive! I'll probably just live with the pain and buy some new discs, especially after loosing my Buzzz on a water hole this morning, :(

I threw a disc in the river once during a doubles tournament went along side the riverbank and slipped and separated my left shoulder non throwing arm thank God, on the first hole of the 2nd round. We were sitting in 2nd shooting 9 down and ended up 3rd overall. sucked playing that entire round though, did see a doctor by the way also.

.....and if you do permanent damage, no sweat, there's a lot of things you can do for the rest of your life that don't involve throwing anything.

That sucks DC but glad you finished well. Haven't been yet but I have my checkup appt. soon so I'll let him know then. It's tolerable and only painful if I use my arm incorrectly, probably not as bad as my arthritis in the joints.

Guys... he did NOT ask a medical question at all... so no need for the "Go see a doctor" comments. The injury story was the background for his real question of, "Can you develop a full game throwing only backhand?"

And the answer is YES! A good forehand can get you out of trouble sometimes, but you can absolutely excel at this sport throwing only backhand. Find a good understable disc and you'll be fine.

Thumbers + impinged rotator cuff = no more forehands for me

I still do okay, I just throw more understable plastic if I have to go to the right (RHBH). Any strokes I lost I picked back up by developing turnovers and anhyzers and by playing smarter.

I guess I mis-interpreted that. It's my knee-jerk reaction, stemming from my own poor decisions in the past.

Oh, yeah, you can get pretty good throwing just backhand. Plenty of people play solely BH, or solely FH, and do well, particularly on certain courses. But it's not as good as having both techniques available.

NP DS, I understand it's hard to read into what the meaning was of some posts, especially mine :) I'm pretty sore all over from playing so much lately but I've got the bug and can't stop myself. Like sex it's very addictive and I just want to get better!

My round this morning wasn't too bad in very windy conditions and I had my personal best anhyser shot ever and almost drained it for a birdy. That won't help me to take some time off.

I still have to gain some distance to shoot low or below par consistently.
