Good thread. You see i started discing 2 years ago, and i just turned 47, I have done what many people have done, I thought high speed discs meant throwing further. I watched many videos, read a bunch at various disc golf sites and changed my whole approach, 9 speed is my fastest disc i use and I do not use it to much, my main driver is either a TL or i have found one that works wonders for me and that is the JLS from millennium. The discs that other people have mention on this post should work for him very well. I just wanted to put in my to cents on this and the biggest thing that has helped me is the weight of the disc. I started out using max weight discs and after spending several hundred dollars i have figured out that drivers between 164-167g work best for me. For my mids i try staying right at 170g, and putters i use 172-175g. I figure that with my age my body may never allow me to throw 400 ft but i have worked up to over 300 feet, the best thing i do is go down to a field and just practice my drives and work on my technique. Tell your dad not to give up, he will get better but like many things in life it takes time, dedication, and hard work. Good Discing. Oh and one more thing, I also live in iowa maybe someday we can disc together, my son also discs with me and got me started.
