why do you mix the dye with acetone if acetone eats discs?

I don't think the acetone ate the disc too much. It is used all the time to remove stamps. I didn't dip it in acetone. Just a quick swipe of the paintbrush and the acetone evaporates very quick leaving the dye behind. I think the consensus is the acetone softens the plastic allowing the dye to "take" immediately.
But I mentioned the application to see if it made the fade worse compared to other 1 year old dyes.

Yeah. The second pic was taken on a gloomy day so the colors aren't great but in person it isn't far off.
