    Powering down...

So, I've run into an issue lately, and with the proven ability of this forum to get me throwing longer, I thought maybe I could count on you guys to get me throwing shorter, as well. With all of the collective information here, I've been just now starting to edge my longest discs (PDs) out to...

    Midrange assistance

I've had very good luck lately with a combination of Opto Pains for overstable shots, especially in the wind, and DX and KC Pro rocs running the gamut from overstable to laser straight to flippy and understable. Rocs are unstoppable.

    Omegaholics Assemble!

No shit? That's pretty goddamn funny. The black one still has the "SuperSoft" on because the white matte stamp was a motherfucker to take off.

    Omegaholics Assemble!

I putt with Omegas. A black 1.30 172g and a white 1.30 171g. Depending on which is treating me better that day. The black one seems a bit softer, but it's nicer as it gets cold out. The plan is to get an AP or two (1.11 I guess?) for short upshooting duties because I haven't been too consistent...

hornet vs. wasp vs. generic overstable mid

I have a couple Pains, both Opto in Red and Magenta at like 178 and 177g, and both of them performed admirably into VERY stiff winds the other day. Got one to hold quite a strong hyzer on a 280ft approach into what felt like 35mph headwinds.

Should be really good* fixed that for ya.

The latest run of them just isn't as stable as I was looking for. Feels great in the hand, but they don't fight the wind as well as I expected.

As I said, the Z Wasp isn't a suitable replacement for me, and the Pain turned out to be precisely what I was looking for. I may grab the Roc just because, but it's unlikely to end up in my bag for anything more than just having some fun with it.

    Tell me about my bag...

Yep, got 'em, loved 'em as soon as I got to throw the thangs. A 178 and a 177 both in Opto. Red and Magenta respectively. I also love the Omega SS 1.30s I'm putting with, definite improvement in my putting confidence. I also got a real juicy pink S-PD at 170, it's flatter than my piggish pop...

hornet vs. wasp vs. generic overstable mid

The two Opto Pains I got were precisely what I was looking for. Both fly almost identically, and are a bit more overstable than the Roc while stll very midrange like in flight. Wasn't windy enough today to test their wind performance, but they did allow me to play some nice 280' or so flexed...

hornet vs. wasp vs. generic overstable mid

Thank you for this. I have a friend here who's trying to get me on USDGC Rocs. I'd love to, I really would, I want a champ Roc badly, but even if he's willing to sell me a few hilariously cheap almost new, if I throw them into a stream, or some reeds, or some nasty woods, and lose it, I can't...

hornet vs. wasp vs. generic overstable mid

Ahhh, okay. Yeah, I know that flight of the Buzzz. See, from what I'd read about the Pain, and the reason I picked up a couple of Optos in 176 and 177, I too visualized that line of a slightly hyzering Roc, but being able to hold it in the wind, and especially after a few tree slaps. Well...

hornet vs. wasp vs. generic overstable mid

I'm going to assume your power level is a good bit higher than mine if you're flipping a new Z Buzzz? I should clarify that my findings with the Roc/Buzzz as stable, shapeable midranges, and conversely my lack of satisfaction with the Wasp and Hornet is with about 300' of power behind a midrange...

hornet vs. wasp vs. generic overstable mid

Which do you prefer, the Opto or the GL? If they're different, I'm happy to learn how and figure out which would suit me best, but I'm just curious, as without making special trips to the couple of relatively distant disc golf specific shops in my area, there's no way to buy Latitude plastic at...

hornet vs. wasp vs. generic overstable mid

To get this sucker somewhere back in the direction of on-track: I'm currently on the search for a more stable midrange as well. I throw Rocs, mostly KC Pro 12x which beat up too quickly to stay tough against wind for very long, and a DX/Star blend Sanny Roc which is pretty stable, but I...
