My first thought was: where are all the familiar names? Where's Climo, Barry, JohnE, Todd, the Readings, King, Stokely, and I'm probably still forgetting some…
But if you look deep enough, anything can be somewhat amusing. For instance, there's a 971-rated bagger playing in advanced masters. I guess he'd rather win a Major than bring home some cash. As I've never won a major, I won't claim to be above that kind of thinking. I hope he wins.
So this will definitely be a bit different, but I hope it still works to some degree. Play begins September 9, so get 'em in before then.
Male Pros(#1-9) and Ams (#10-11)
1. Will Patrick Brown take first (3)? If you guess not, then pick who you think will (+2)
2. How many players in the top 20 Masters will not be from California (3)?
3. Who will take first in the Grandmasters' division (1)?
4. How many players in the top 20 Grandmasters will not be from California (2)?
5. Will Kazuo Shirai win Sr. GM (1)? If you guess not, then pick who you think will (+1)
6. How many players in the top 10 Sr. GM will not be from California (2)?
7. Which of the Legends (normal, senior, or grand) will shoot the highest rated round (1)?
8. Which of the Legends (normal, senior, or grand) will have the lowest total score (1)?
9. What will be the highest rated round shot by the men (4)? Who will shoot it (1)?
10. Will Schuyler Raine-Mustain win Adv. Masters (1)? If you guess not, pick who will (+1)
11. Will Alan Cosseboom win Adv. Legends (1)? If you guess not, pick who will (+1)
Female Pros and Ams
1. Will Berlogar win (3)? If you guess not, then pick who you think will (+2)
2. Will Naoyo Yoshida win Adv. Masters (1)? If you guess not, pick who you think will (+1)
3. What will be the highest rated round shot by the ladies (4)? Who will shoot it (1)?
Further questions*
1. What will be the lowest rated round of the tournament (4)?
2. What will be the largest difference between a given player's rating, and an extreme round rating achieved by the same player (4)? For instance, if a player is rated 900, and their worst round rating is 700, this is a difference of 200. If they were to shoot an 1100 round, this would also be a 200.
*I'm not encouraging ridicule (not that anyone would be tempted to act on such encouragement here). Rather, we've all had awful rounds. Completing such a round ought to serve as a testament to a player's commitment to the game (unless it's an 888, which doesn't get a rating anyway).
