My drives are way too flippy

500 feet? I think he meant 500 metres.

Lol, who knows...maybe he really is disappointed if he only hits 500 feet but in order to be disappointed, he must consistently drive well over 500. Let's me honest, you are not pissed at driving 500 when your average or personal best is 525. They could he pros, i would be if I was tossing 500 foot bombs on the regular.

I'm guessing he's throwing 600ft if 500ft is considered not good. Was there any drives over 500ft in the recent USDGC? (Other than rollers?) To my eyes it looked like the typical drives were 325-400ft?

It is amazing to watch some local friends of mine bomb 400-450 drives. A thing of beauty to be honest. :)

Just watched a few drives from the USDGC, looks like the typical drive is 350-430.

The typical drive there is 350-430 because that's what the course needs. I guarantee you that a good majority of the top 50 players can all throw 500' with ease.

On a course, you don't usually need a 500' hyzer. And most people aren't throwing pure 500' hyzers. But the top pros can throw a disc that far on a cheated line if they need to.

If a player can usually throw 500, then they would be disappointed not to. That doesn't mean they think 450 is bad, but that they have high expectations for themselves.

Personally, I can throw pretty far vs. the average disc golfer. So I have higher standards than most. However, I know what averages are and I know that the majority of people are not throwing DX Beasts 400 feet if they're only throwing Star Beasts 300. It's far too much of a difference.

The biggest issue is that I don't think people realize how far 300' 350' and 450' really are.

I do not think this is true based on long drive competitions. I have plenty of times seen top throwers maxing out in qualifying in the 520' range. Look at the USDGC distance showcase (map). It is exactly 500' from where they throw from to where the baskets are.....and major elevation change (~30' drop?). It takes the best of the best a very strong throw to get there. In the past when they went for max D, very few of them reached the road which is exactly 600'....and down hill.

I think you know not of what you speak.

Totally agree! And I'm sure it's better to have a 500ft arm and not need it compared to not having a 500ft arm and needing it. ;)

And looking at the distance results, looks like 13 players have 500ft arm strength. And wtf....only $140.00 for coming in first and throwing 647ft? wow...

Do the X-Step as textbook like as you can.
That always solves the problem and you can't flip it over if you're doing it right.
If someone can't do the X-step (seriously), it might be flexibility/back(like I have)/muscle/injury issue.

Great stats :) Was there an uphill or upwind issue with the comp though that you are aware off? With wind behind I would have expected slightly more on average.

So much of distance is having the right wind conditions. Course distance averages (and I say averages not one off throws) even for the big guns is less than 500'

There was a AMA with Will Schusterick on Reddit the other day - I asked him what his average straight line drive was(not hyzerflip or anny just flat to fade out on the course)

His answer?

550'

Even the pros are at it....

Doesn't help having misleading holes likes 10 (11?) at USDGC which states 560' distance in the caddybook (or similar) and then you see McBeast driving straight at it and landing a few feet short. Turns out the straight line is 464' with a 420 carry over the OB, and the roundabout quoted as the hole distance in the caddybook route is 560' Still bloody impressive to straight drive it but not quite the crazy distance it sounds.
