Pros:
A very pleasant short park-style course with excellent amenities and a few long tees to stretch it out a bit
+ Concrete tees, great signage, blue Prodigy baskets, tape on the basket spokes and good navigational signage
+ Clearly defined grass fairways with some trees to dodge on most holes
+ Multiple tees on a third of the holes (seemed like most of the long tees were on the back 9)
+ A few holes run side-by-side, but the treelines make for little danger of throwing into oncoming traffic. A few holes on the back nine require some backtracking to the next tee (especially if you're playing the whites), so the only real danger is from groups behind you on the same hole
Cons:
- Beginner-friendly signage that explains scores and the shapes of shots, but they seem to run out of disc golf things to say, and become bland inspirational messaging halfway through the round
- Holes #6 - #9 alternate uphill/downhill and they're not bad, but it gets tiring to keep walking up and down the same damn hillside
Other Thoughts:
~ Each of the three Codorus courses is assigned a color (Blue, Purple, Red) and all the amenities are painted to match (signage, baskets, even the posts holding the tee signs). There's never any question which course you're playing
~ A few of the signs have label maker tape with distances other than what's on the signs themselves. I'm wondering if the baskets or tees have been moved since the signs were made
Holes of Note:
~ Hole #2 is a short (222'), slightly downhill that plays to an island green. The island is marked by ground level bricks across the fairway
~ Although the entire course is park-style with trees to dodge, hole #5 is the only narrow wooded hole - it's only 200' with a left dogleg
~ Hole #15 is a standout "golf hole:" narrow fairway that slopes dramatically down to the right, a few trees to avoid off the tee. Puts a premium on a low straight shot - but watch out for groundplay
QUICK OVERVIEW OF THE THREE CODORUS STATE PARK COURSES
Blue:
Most "park style" of the three, largely open fairways with trees to dodge. Shortest of the three, although some back tees are available
Purple:
Longest and most open of the three with some long bomber holes early. Lots of elevation change - enjoy watching your discs soar. Layout has some "stuck in'' holes
Red:
Most varied of the three: includes park style, waterside, open, and deep woods. Longer than Blue, shorter than Purple. True wooded back 9.
