Pros:
Corban University is a very small college in a scenic rural area. I mistakenly followed the old directions and could not find the course, but ran into a staff member and he informed me the course had moved from main campus to an undeveloped area next to the baseball and soccer fields. He then led the way to a parking area designated for visitors and disc golfers. I have updated the information and it is accurate as of November 2018.
--Tees are mostly natural surface, and can be slippery when wet.
--Baskets are usually visible from the tee, and in good shape.
--Signs are mostly in good shape, although #9 was no longer attached to the pole, and there was a blend of old and new signs. The black signs are older, and those with color are more accurate. Distance on hole #5 was way off--the pin was maybe 200 ft from the tee and on the right side of the dirt road, tucked behind trees.
Hole 1: Plays uphill and cars in gravel lot (where you parked) could come into play.
Hole 2: Very short uphill hyzer, kind of a wasted hole given the space available.
Hole 3: Hard to spot the basket in a grove of trees down the slope, which essentially guards the basket from a direct approach.
Hole 4: Attempt at a tee box, with gravel, but is a short square. Low-hanging tree limbs add difficulty to an otherwise short, open shot.
Hole 5: As mentioned above, this is not a 400 ft hole along the dirt access road, but instead the pin is tucked behind pines at the edge of the forest. Walk up the road to see it.
Hole 6: Tee off from the access road down to the basket, which is protected by a ring of trees.
Hole 7: Walk down the slope towards the swale and you'll see the sign for tee 7. The basket is up the slope at the edge of the grove you emerged from after playing hole 5. Basically wide open shot, slightly uphill, with trees to either side of basket.
Hole 8: Plays along the edge of the athletic fields, with a ditch running along it and a small hut used to announce the sports. Basket is in oak tree grove that also protects basket #3.
Hole 9: Possibly the longest hole, blind shot from tee. The basket is one level above the fairway that you see off the tee, with a couple of large trees along the divide.
You finish right back where you started.
Should take 20-30 min to play all 9 holes.
Cons:
Now that the directions are updated, along with photos and a rough outline of the hole layout, it is much easier to figure out this course.
Existing signs could be improved.
Tees could be improved, even by putting some gravel down.
No water, restrooms or garbage cans.
Other Thoughts:
I appreciate the help of staff. The course was mostly short, but the placement of trees in baskets meant you had to be very accurate on a couple of them. Not a place I would return to, but in my quest to play Oregon courses along Hwy 5, I was glad I stopped. It was very quiet, almost no one around, and since it was sunny it was particularly scenic.
Hopefully the updated images and map will help folks in the future.
