Pros:

Course plays next to soccer field go there and you'll be able to see it. The tee signs our very nice for the most part showing hole number and distance. Baskets have the number on top of them to make sure you're playing the right one. Hole 6 is a fun downhill throw, and hands down my favorite on the course. Hole 4 has a low ceiling or right backhand line..not bad hole, and hole 5 is a nice clean fairway line and good hole.

Cons:

There's a lot of cons here however...no tee pad markings of any kind just the signs which thankfully are all there but our from an old layout so most our not the correct distance and hole 6 sign has been vandalized. Hole 1 throws over the parking lot new players have high chance of hitting a car. The course hasn't been mowed or taken care of in awhile. Spotters recommended on holes 3/7/8/9 as they can be rough with tall grass. Layout can be tricky finding 6s tee pad walk up the hill from 5 make sure to play hole 1 basket on 1 as you see both 1 and 2 from tee pad.

Other Thoughts:

With a little upkeep and some mowing/tlc this could be a good little 9 hole. With some tee pads and maybe a mini layout change could be pretty solid. As it sits now however it's a little rough and probably dosen't get much play

Version 2.0 looks better than original 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 23, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Corban University is a very small college in a scenic rural area. I mistakenly followed the old directions and could not find the course, but ran into a staff member and he informed me the course had moved from main campus to an undeveloped area next to the baseball and soccer fields. He then led the way to a parking area designated for visitors and disc golfers. I have updated the information and it is accurate as of November 2018.

--Tees are mostly natural surface, and can be slippery when wet.
--Baskets are usually visible from the tee, and in good shape.
--Signs are mostly in good shape, although #9 was no longer attached to the pole, and there was a blend of old and new signs. The black signs are older, and those with color are more accurate. Distance on hole #5 was way off--the pin was maybe 200 ft from the tee and on the right side of the dirt road, tucked behind trees.

Hole 1: Plays uphill and cars in gravel lot (where you parked) could come into play.
Hole 2: Very short uphill hyzer, kind of a wasted hole given the space available.
Hole 3: Hard to spot the basket in a grove of trees down the slope, which essentially guards the basket from a direct approach.
Hole 4: Attempt at a tee box, with gravel, but is a short square. Low-hanging tree limbs add difficulty to an otherwise short, open shot.
Hole 5: As mentioned above, this is not a 400 ft hole along the dirt access road, but instead the pin is tucked behind pines at the edge of the forest. Walk up the road to see it.
Hole 6: Tee off from the access road down to the basket, which is protected by a ring of trees.
Hole 7: Walk down the slope towards the swale and you'll see the sign for tee 7. The basket is up the slope at the edge of the grove you emerged from after playing hole 5. Basically wide open shot, slightly uphill, with trees to either side of basket.
Hole 8: Plays along the edge of the athletic fields, with a ditch running along it and a small hut used to announce the sports. Basket is in oak tree grove that also protects basket #3.
Hole 9: Possibly the longest hole, blind shot from tee. The basket is one level above the fairway that you see off the tee, with a couple of large trees along the divide.

You finish right back where you started.

Should take 20-30 min to play all 9 holes.

Cons:

Now that the directions are updated, along with photos and a rough outline of the hole layout, it is much easier to figure out this course.

Existing signs could be improved.
Tees could be improved, even by putting some gravel down.
No water, restrooms or garbage cans.

Other Thoughts:

I appreciate the help of staff. The course was mostly short, but the placement of trees in baskets meant you had to be very accurate on a couple of them. Not a place I would return to, but in my quest to play Oregon courses along Hwy 5, I was glad I stopped. It was very quiet, almost no one around, and since it was sunny it was particularly scenic.

Hopefully the updated images and map will help folks in the future.

Not bad, but not good. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-elevation changes
-fairly easy to navigate.. fairways were maintained.
-don't imagine this course ever getting crowded
-nice use of trees to create challenging throws
-friendly locals at the campus
-clean, free and parking is right by hole 1 and 9

Cons:

-no good tee pads
-although there are signs at each hole, they don't appear very accurate
-the rough is very rough- plenty of blackberries and dense shrubbery

Other Thoughts:

We enjoy playing Corban one or twice a year for a change of pace. Has a definite country feel with large oak trees, rough terrain, and lack of people.
The ups and downs and technical shots make for a decent round of 9, but for us, this is a short, rough course and we tend to prefer the other fine courses in the Salem area.

Easy and Varied 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 21, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Variety. Each hole is unique.

Great for beginners. Mostly short and easy fairways.

Free

Good signage.

This is a good place to throw a quick nine. It plays fast, but it doesn't have that 'every hole is the same' feel that some small 9 holes have.

Cons:

Easy. Real easy.

#6 and #8 are just silly. They're crammed into too small of a space.

#7 is listed as a par 4 and it's probably the easiest par 4 in North America.

Tees are a mixed bag. Some are on pavement, some are on uneven dirt.

Other Thoughts:

It's great that the students have this course. If it was in my backyard I would probably play it all the time.

If you're playing in this area I'd play Woodmansee instead, or Gateway, or Keizer Rapids. I end up playing Corban when I can't decide where to go and realize I haven't been to Corban in awhile, then after the round I wonder what I was doing there.

It's a shame because it seems like the college has plenty of unused land that could be used to extend the holes out to a really nice 9 (or more).

Good, Bad And The Ugly 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 6, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Corban College shows flashes of brilliance in some spots and epic face palming in other spots. Holes one and two are nice short par three holes for you to warm up on with hole one being a slight downhill hyzer with trouble stickers if your discs doesn't have enough hyzer or travels too far. Hole two is another short hole with a fast area around the basket that can make our disc skip far away, even into the road which I'm assuming is played as out of bounds. Hole five is a really good long par three hole that even advanced players are going to have a hard time getting a two on. The last couple of holes have more trees involved and even a small mushy area that acts as a water hazard for hole seven.

Cons:

Holes three and four are where the failure is in this place. Hole three is a crazy 400 foot throw that you are using the road (and concrete) as your fairway and a hyzer is going to be hitting a building. The only logical throw on this hole is a roller as it will roll forever on the road and hit the curb and bounce over. Fun but dangerous for many different reasons. While I was playing the campus security were making their rounds and I felt extremely uncomfortable throwing this hole. Hole four is a crazy horseshoe shaped hole (at least being shown on the tee sign as the route they want you to take) that dangerously throws down the road again and could hit oncoming traffic. Also there is no real good route to this hole on the right side and my only option was a FH flick skip off the pavement down the road. This is one of the most interesting and unique holes I have ever seen but not in a good way.

Other Thoughts:

I played this course when school was out and no one was really around but I can imagine during the school year when students are walking about it makes it impossible to play and with the risk of hitting cars and/or buildings anyways combined with dangerous hole design you would want to skip it. I did find most of the holes on this course to be fun but not too challenging, with the exception of five which was hard to reach for me with the natural tee pad.

Extremely pleasant, not terribly interesting. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 26, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice tee signs with accompanying directional markers make navigation very easy.
A few holes feature interesting layouts.
Some elevation present, most notably on holes 1 and 4.
Hole 5 is an excellent long par 3.
Course is maintained well, very family friendly environment.

Cons:

Hole 3 features 400 feet of concrete with almost no other flight option.
Numerous holes have a danger of smashing concrete.
About half of the holes are very short and the course overall wouldn't challenge most experienced players.
During the school year, crowds and pedestrians would be an issue as the course weaves very close to a number of school buildings.
Old baskets don't catch particularly well.
Course is a bit tricky to find on campus.

Other Thoughts:

Corban college seems to define pleasant disc golf, and that vibe was consistent around the course. Only a few holes have significant obstacles between you and the basket and only 2 holes seemed to be particularly challenging. Honestly, I rather enjoyed hole 3, with its 400 feet of concrete but I know a lot of golfers who would opt to skip a hole that pretty much forces you to hit concrete. What I will say for the course is that as a beginner level course, I admired the ease of navigation and a few of the holes that had some tricky pin positions, for folks in the college I could see this as a fun day-to-day practice course, for more serious players, it's not worth a stop off I-5 and I would recommend playing Cascades Gateway or Woodmansee first.

Fun Little College Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2003 Played the course:never

Pros:

This course winds it's way around this little Christian college. It's short, not too technical, but all in all, a enjoyable little course. There's a bit of elevation change, a couple of clever holes and many backberry bushes. The course is fairly well thought out.

Cons:

There aren't any holes to really air it out on. It's not Pier Park or McIver but most courses aren't.

Other Thoughts:

It's just off I-5 for easy access. I played it when the college was still called Western Baptist.
