I have to say I did have fun on this course, despite it being nothing special. I didn't hear a soul the whole time I was there, which honestly is nice sometimes. For the minimal traffic this course seems to get it is very well maintained - grass is mowed, fairways well defined, woodchips to cut down on mud, etc.

This is a nice beginner course, or a good place to practice certain lines on defined fairways, but it is not overly challenging. Most of the holes are quite short and a decent player will have chances at 2s on most of the holes. I missed my first ace here by feet - but close gets you nothing, unfortunately.

The walk from the parking to Hole 1 is excessively long compared to most courses, but in the "hole" scheme of things, it's not that big a deal . It's a picturesque, forested area. I was here in April and didn't notice any bugs, but I could see it getting bad in the summer like some reviewers have mentioned. Overgrowth can definitely be thick, but the course is easy enough you shouldn't have to deal with it too much unless you really get yourself into trouble.

I think the biggest con here was the rubber teepads. Ordinarily I'm not opposed to alternative tee materials, but these were pretty bad. In places they were super warped and were holding water to the point where I couldn't even use them on a few holes. These are the one maintenance item that needs addressing. The hole signs were basic, but in good shape.

I definitely would NOT go out of my way to play this course again, but if you are in the area (and I'm honestly not sure why you would be, but who knows) and need a quick play, it's fun enough. This is one of the fastest 9 hole courses I have played and could easily be done twice. There just isn't anything very unique or original about the course... it's another standard Chicago 9 hole course, but a little better than some of the wide open "urban park" type courses.

- Course itself is set far away from the rest of the park, which is nice. No walking paths, benches, or playgrounds to avoid or wait on.
- Holes seem to be carved out of a dense forest, which provides well-defined fairways and big punishment for errant shots. The rough/schule is extremely thick in some places, starting with hole #1.
- Good mix of different shots needed. Left, right, and straight. The lines are forced by the dense rough as well as some individual trees/branches. Straight shots are not always an option, either.
- Some random elevation changes here and there add some variety. The holes aren't really uphill or downhill, but there are undulations around baskets, on the fairway, and such. Just helps to keep things interesting, if nothing else.
- Hole #6 is a blind fairway from the tee, with a tough line. Good hole to use a spotter.
- Good baskets, decent tees and signage.

- The most obvious con is the length of the course. One hole is barely 300', a few around 260', and the rest are 230' or less. Enough said.
- Not many obstacles to challenge the drives mid-flight. The fairways are well defined and wide, wide open. On holes that are 230', the shots are too open to be challenging (if you can get the right line).
- Layout is kind of strange, there may be some spots where errant discs can find another fairway. Holes 4-7, I think, are especially crammed together.

- This course is a pitch and putt by length, but not by design. The thick rough and some twisting fairways add significant difficulty.
- A seasoned player would be able to blow through this course without a second thought, and a beginner would be scratched, possibly bleeding, and out a disc or two. It is better suited for people learning how to shape lines and control their accuracy.

Really, a nice "old school" nine. The old school designation usually means "play with a 150 class disc." (in mine, and most veteran's terms) But, in this case, because of the steerage required, one may need modern, higher speed, plastic to execute shots. (A good 150 class thrower would enjoy making some very pretty shots to these pins.)

I also used a number of "junk" shots (i.e. tomahawks or thumbers). Modern courses lengthen holes to take short "junk" shots out of the equation; or put something tall in the early part of the throw.....Thus, as mentioned, this is an "old school" layout....and nice practice for 250 ft. "junk."
Mach baskets; this area is full of Innova Discatchers. Enjoy not smacking the "chasity belt" while you can.

We called #7 and #8 the "signature" holes of this course. Good shots; with small entrances to the green.

Overall footage short.

An enjoyable nine. These shots; put as finishing shots, on holes that would have another throw at the beginning of shot; would be a wonderful group of fairway finish/greens.

Clean mowed fairways typical of courses carved out of prairies. First 1/2 is more prairie, 2nd half is woodsier. Some woodsy holes provide tree tunnel like accuracy challenges. Hole signs, distance, par and hole overview is well indicated on posts at tees. Tee pads are rubber over wooden platform. Good grippiness for run up control and sure-footedness. Tee pads have held up O.K. through their first winter... some buckling and rippling of the decking fabric, though.

2 good signs but a small hike from parking to 1st tee. Bugs can be thick. Rough can be heavy. Hole 6 tees off with the basket of 5 directly in the flight path. Watch your drives and those of others in your group to minimize time spent searching in the rough. Course is overall pretty short. Few long holes. Most holes play pretty straight forward with few options to make choices and vary up your play. I would get pretty bored playing this one more than a few times. Twin Creeks in Buffalo Grove is shorter, simpler and easier, but trees and some character makes it more fun on repeated visits.

Just average. Plenty of room here for another 9 or more creativity in hole design. Update. Played here 3.22.12. This course and other very woodsy ones play well in early spring. Easier to search for discs that go off course I like this place more when it is like this. Not at all buggy. Very buggy in summer. 3 has filled in well. Tree challenges on 3 are great. 8 is a very good hole. I will eat my hat if anyone ever gets an Ace on 8. 9 is a nice uphill s curve finishing hyzer. Like 9 a lot. 2 is a blind annie. basket smack in middle of fairway. Might be o.k. for a creative alt basket spot on 2. Basket on 4 has damaged base. needs a quick fix.

1) Rubber teepads are better than grass.

2) Nice tee posts and signs and some directionals.

3) Baskets are wonderful and very new.

4) Course is isolated from other activities which is always positive so there is no worry about hitting any other park patrons.

5) Challenging course because of how tight the fairways are and you are forced to work your shots one way or the other on most holes. Only one straight hole.

1) Teepads are not level.

2) Another prairie course that just doesn't impress. It is an allright course, but so much like many other prairie style settings. Mowed fairways through tall grasses and rough shule.

3) Course is not beginner friendly because of all of the blind baskets combined with the tall grasses and some bad shule.

4) Shot requirements are simply too similar. Mostly left to right holes which is the opposite of what most courses are. Most people throw RHBH and this is a tough course for the majority of people. Forehanders and lefties might have a better chance to score well here. You would be better if you could throw everything well. (This is not necessarily bad design, but I would have mixed it up a little more (5 left to right, 3 right to left, and one dead straight). Maybe a few more straight holes would have been better.

5) Not enough obstacles other than the shule on either side of the fairways. I woul have liked to see a few more individual trees in play.

6) #8 is poorly designed because it looks logical to just follow the mulch path, but don't do it.

7) Shule can be punishing for your game and your skin. Look out for roses and thorny shrubs.

8) Not much elevation change except on #6 and #8 and #9. Even these holes is only about 10 vertical feet or less.

9) No water in play either and it looks like there is some swampy areas on the property that could have been used. If they just starting mowing down fairways, I would rather have seen them find some other features of the park.

This course was recently installed, so I am sure that more maintenance will be on its way and the locals will figure out some more rough to shave down.

Here is a quick rundown of the hole layout:

1) Short left to right with deep rough on both sides.

2) Short left to right with trees and deep rough on both sides. Blind shot around the corner.

3) Dead straight hole with an evergreen and a small fruit tree guarding the basket. You can go around either tree to park the basket or right up the gut with a powerful arm.

4) Another left to right hole with trees on both sides.Blind teeshot.

5) First right to left hole on the course, deep rough and trees on both sides.Blind tee shot.

6) Left to right slightly downhill. Blind teeshot to the basket. Blind teeshot.

7) Right to left into the woods. Gap narrows to about 10' for the last 30-50', so either park it in the opening or go for the basket (could cost you a par if you do go for it and miss the gap).

8) Left to right hole. DO NOT FOLLOW THE MULCH PATH!!!! Fairway turns at 45 degree angle 20-30' into the woods. Going up the mulch path will force you to throw around some trees. Totally blind shot.

9) Right to lefter uphill. Blind to the basket again.

I wrote this to show how this course is similar. It has too man of the same shots, too many holes are similar distance, and too many of the holes re totally blind teeshots. Blind shots are ok but when you incorporate all the thick prairie grasses and rough, you better not be playing this course alone. It took me and my partner for the day (Doktor John) as a spotter on about 3-4 of the holes just to make sure the discs were findable if missing the fairway.
