Red rock serenity and some challenging holes 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 19, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

It's hard enough to find any course around here on these scenic back roads through CO/UT canyon country. Dolores stands out for it's epic scenery, how easy it is to find, and the fact that on any given day you will probably have the entire course all to yourself. Pros include:

-playing golf in a baby Grand Canyon
-the course all to yourself
-challenging pin placements on most holes
-enough shade to hide from the summer sun
-the lazy Dolores River winding along the front 9
-Well-labeled baskets in excellent condition
-Well-labeled tee pads (most are rubber, some are dirt)
-Great signage between holes directing to next tee pad

Cons:

These cons shouldn't deter you from playing this course, unless you're a beginner or have no patience or willingness to search out the pins on foot:

-No reliable map at the start or online (even here)
-No restrooms or water
-No hole maps at tees; some posts do not read in the direction of the fairway. This requires walking 100-200 ft ahead to locate the pins on several holes
-No elevation changes
-Tall grass/willows can make discs hard to find on some holes

Other Thoughts:

As others have said, this course is underplayed due to its location. Don't skip it if you have the chance to play. Give yourself at least 1.5-2 hours to play all the correct holes. I really looking forward to driving this route and playing Dolores again.
