Perfect course for throwing the Alien midrange disc

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 7, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Large enough concrete tee pads for the distance required
- Tee signs are laminated and show all of the necessary information
- Baskets seem older DGA style but in good condition
- A good mix of different distances for an all par 3 course
- One mando has a cool little green alien pointing you the right way
- Natural obstacles like little dirt mounds, light poles, etc. were used to add challenge
- Decent amount of OB, mostly the surrounding road and paths to protect others from flying discs ;)
- Decent variety of hole shapes; left to right/right to left
- Dead grass/dirt is prevalent through most of the park so throwing rollers or banking on skip shots in certain places is welcoming
- Long tees do add a few fringe par 4 holes

Cons:

- No true par 4 holes for the red tees
- Most drives are open throws
- Many baskets are guarded but more than most aren't
- Aside from the OB the course does not adequately punish bad drives and thus getting a three is all but assured for most players
- I couldn't navigate it without Udisc so keep in mind as a first timer you're breaking your phone out a lot
- The course is pretty much flat sans those mounds I mentioned
- I played it with 25 mph winds in January and there were still several groups out here as crazy as me so the summer months it may be packed with disc golfers
- Similar to above this is one of the few parks in town and gets used by other park users so you have to be aware before you throw and perhaps there are times when it can't be played due to popularity
- Some holes are close to each other and you risk hitting someone or getting hit by someone

Other Thoughts:

This is just not a unique enough course for a town that promotes and embraces things like UFO's and aliens. This felt like a below average 9 hole course that just happens to have 18 holes on it, nothing special. It is the only 18 hole course in town though so if you live here it's your home course by default. I did not check out the 9 holer in town as I was cold, sore from a long DG trip, and was bored playing the same shot over and over again due to wind and open holes here. If you're here doing UFO things check out the course it's better than nothing but don't go out of your way.

Flying Discs in Roswell 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 28, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Easy to get in a quick game

Cons:

Not a lot of obstacles or variety of shots required

Other Thoughts:

I played this course while on vacation. I only found the first 9 holes, but had no problem finding those. Course is laid out so that you finish near the parking lot you start at. There are a couple of holes where you have to make shots around overgrowth, but not many. Most are really open and you can throw straight at them. This does make it a pretty easy course, but also one that you can play very quickly if you don't have a lot of time. The hawk, or pretty large bird that resides in the tree between the 6th & 7th fairways is alive and well. I'd forgotten about him being noted in earlier reviews until he started his divebomb runs. Overall, the course is a nice little course to play if you're in the area and just want to get a quick game in.

Pretty Easy 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 11, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Good signage with distances listed.
- Short/Long tees on every hole with concrete at both locations.
- Grass looks to be mowed often.

Cons:

- Not a lot of obstacles, a pretty wide open course
- Standing water on a few holes after a big rainstorm, not really an issue if you have a good shot.
- Nothing special to make it unique, pretty straight forward holes.
- Wind really comes into play. It always seems to be windy in Roswell.

Other Thoughts:

-A great course for beginners to learn the game on
-Play it for sure if you happen to be in the Roswell area and just love disc golfing but don't go out of your way to get here.
- Watch out on holes 6 and 7 for a defensive hawk. I was swooped down on 3 or 4 times while playing. Talking to locals it happens to them too every round so heads up !!!!
