Been a long time! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 29, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Nice wide open fairways!
- Friendly Players
- Clean layout
- Gorgeous Concrete Pads

Cons:

- A few very challenging water holes that are known to eat discs! (The water is nasty smelling and taints any disc that touches it!)

- Takes a bit to get the pad layout down.

- Can be very busy during the summer.

Other Thoughts:

This was one of the first courses I played way back in the day. Super fun and super challenging when I was getting used to Denver Disc Golf. I took a long break and after playing this course,. I now know how much I really missed disc golf. Super stoked to get out a play a bunch more rounds in the near future.

Fun Water Hazard Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 30, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Well maintained grass throughout park
+ Water hazards make for a fun challenge on half the holes
+ Large concrete tee pads
+ After the first three holes the flow was logical and easy to follow
+ Decent variance in distance

Cons:

- Geese, geese, and more geese
- All those geese leave a lot of poo behind... everywhere
- Because of the geese, the water stinks when you get super close to it
- Could use more shots that involve trees as obstacles since its a park
- The distances etched into the concrete tee pads don't seem accurate at all
-

Other Thoughts:

Overall I had fun playing the course thank to the threat of throwing into the water on numerous holes. If it wasn't for the water this course wouldn't be fun to play. If the city of Aurora did a better job of keeping geese away or cleaning up after them I would raise my rating.

Pros:

Tee pads are very nice and roomy, some risk reward shots by the water cool factor. Some ace runs out there and good scores can be shot.

Cons:

Goose poop! Smell is awful, wouldn't go near the water. Could see it getting a little windy. No tee signs but distances engraved in the tee pads seem little suspect

Other Thoughts:

Some lady was yelling at top of her lungs which made round less enjoyable.

Honk Honk 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 12, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Exposition Park is a well-maintained park in Aurora, CO. The disc golf course plays on grass around two ponds and a creek. Water comes into play on about half the holes.

-The course makes good use of the land available. Because trees are infrequent, many baskets are placed next to water hazards, making you think about your shots.

-For the most part, the course stayed out of the way of pedestrian paths.

-My favorite hole was #12, a downhill shot over a corner of the pond with a couple trees to navigate. This is a good opportunity for an ace.

-The tee pads are excellent, spacious and textured. They also have the hole number and distance engraved. However, several are not flat and instead follow the contour of the land.

-Baskets were DGA Mach III and in nice condition.

-A starter set of discs may be rented for free from the community center. Scorecards/course maps are also available.

Cons:

-The biggest issue was the geese. Any park like this with grass and a pond is goose heaven. There were at least five hundred roaming the course and dropping turds everywhere, including the tee pads. Teeing off was similar to playing hopscotch.

-The baskets on holes 12 and 13 are placed, in my opinion, too close to the edge of the pond. I'm fine with water hazards coming into play, but it's no fun when baskets are less than 25 feet from the edge.

-A spike hyzer will do on just about every hole. The course does not test technical shots.

Other Thoughts:

-Being without my own discs, I rented a set from the community center. It was a brand new Innova starter pack. My "Starter Pack Challenge" was a lot of fun. The Leopard, as expected was understable. Given a lot of hyzer and 70% power, it flew about 250 on a flex line. Thrown full power with a slight anhyzer, I got it to roll 300 feet. The Shark, however, was very nice and stable. This was my go-to for the day. The Aviar was more or less a frisbee. Miss a putt, and it'll zing right on by.

-The distances printed on the score card and tee pads are certainly not correct. Many are overestimates by 50-100 feet. The numbers on DGCR are not correct either. A redesign must have happened at some point.

-This was an enjoyable round. My only two suggestions for improvement would be to get rid of the geese and move a couple baskets away from the water.

Nice course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 10, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice little course. I was in town visiting friends and I wanted to give a course a shot and this is where I ended up. Some of it is quite picturesque. It's a fairly easy course but there are a few water hazards that can prove to be tricky. I was lucky enough to escape this place with all the discs that came with me! There are some really chill geese walking around: I practically petted a couple of them. All the complaints about bird doo-doo tho.....dude, it's nature...it's not that big of a deal! Haha

Cons:

Potential to get a bit turned around looking for the next tee pad at times if you are new to the place and have no map.

Beware of people walking about and the potential to blast a pedestrian

Other Thoughts:

Mountainous backdrop, bright green grass, birds, ponds, streams, Colorado air....I dig it

Nice park. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 21, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Water comes into play.
Not too difficult to navigate if you have the map.
Good course for beginners to work on distance and upshots.

Cons:

Geese. Goose shit EVERYWHERE.
Middle of nowhere next to a Rec center.
Thick vegetation and a stream behind some baskets. Can be extremely difficult to find. I threw a putter that went slight left into the stream. Couldn't find it! I had to ask a dude walking on the other side to help me and he found it.

Other Thoughts:

Random joggers, bikers, motorcycles and kids going around the course.
The park and course are well maintained.
The pond is nasty. Don't go in there.

Mile High City Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 21, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-18 full holes in the middle of the city
-True water hazards
-Fantastic tee boxes
-Easy to follow set up
-Great park with water and bathroom availability

Cons:

-Not very long
-Not a lot of obstacles between tee and baskets
-A bit repetitive

Other Thoughts:

OK, I did not have much time in Denver area this time and could only play this course. Despite the listings above, it turned out to be a fun couple of rounds. For an 18 hole course in the middle of a major city this turned out to be a blast. As I stated, it's not a "challenging" course but neither is it a push over. The water hazards are just close enough to ensure you stay precise and makes up for the lack of tree or hill obstacles. On a windy day the water could be calling your name, LOL. I am not a rated/tourney player, but I am not a novice/beginner either so keep that in mind. The distance is indeed on the lower end, but for a city park still enables you to throw far and encourages you to throw straight. Not very tricky, as I mentioned, you won't need all your throws, but it is a fun, full 18 in a city. That alone is something to brag about! I hope to hit some of the true mountain parks on my next visit, but for a quick stop in the Mile High City this was a pleasant surprise.

Fav Holes: 2, 14 and 16 due to throwing over or on the edge of the water made for some fun and tactical throws that were memorable!

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 13, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Its pretty

The tee pads are really nice

its good from beginners

its well maintained (biggest problem being its in a low spot so the course is almost always wet)

there are a lot of interesting birds here I've seen pelicans, cormorants, and even some snowy egrets as well as the usual ducks and geese

Cons:

in some places like 3-5 you're basically just throwing back and forth across a field

very easy to lose disc on 2, 12 and 13 and a few others if you're way off course

almost no change in elevation

signage could be a bit better though there is a course map. 3 is probably the hardest tee box to find from the previous pin (its across the bridge and a little ways down the path) also 12 is though to spot from 11 (its just up the hill to your left)

its pretty easy

Other Thoughts:

I live about half way between this one and village greens and I will almost always chose this one over village greens

Nice course in well-maintained park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 1, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Huge concrete tee pads on every hole, with hole number and distance in the concrete itself - some of the nicest pads I've seen. The water comes in to play on most of the holes, including one hole with a carry of about 200 feet over part of one of the lakes. The holes make a figure 8 around a pair of lakes in a nicely maintained park with nice amenities and mowed grass fairways. Decent mix of long and short holes.

Cons:

No signs, but every hole is pretty open, and it's pretty obvious where the basket is from the tee. Trees only come in to play on a couple holes; otherwise, this course is almost entirely open with the exception of the two lakes. Not much variety in terms of hole shape. Unless you want to chose shots shapes that are always over land to avoid losing discs, you are never really forced to throw specific lines, and you can pretty much throw the same shot from every tee.

Other Thoughts:

I don't usually like water holes, especially holes that force you to carry significant bodies of water but this course is still fun. The carry over the lake on #2 is manageable with a good throw. Some of the baskets are a bit close to the water's edge, but I guess with the course being so open, that does provide a little extra challenge. Even though the course is open, the water does force you to be accurate in the same way trees would, only if you miss to the water side, you can't recover like you would from hitting a tree. I'm not crazy about the prospect of losing discs to lakes, but once you get over that, the course is still enjoyable, and if you focus on hitting the correct line, you should be able to avoid putting a disc in the lakes.

Fairly scenic walking park with a small lake the course plays around.

Cons:

Virtually no challenge for advanced players.

Some fairways were swampy and pins were surrounded by mud/water (not by design).

Beautiful Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 27, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful, wide open, well maintained park with very nice tee pads. There were some nice water holes, but nothing that really gets in your head. Lots of great scenery while moving though the course. Requires a variety of standard shots, but nothing too challenging. The course was easy to navigate and the parks department did a good job of not over crowding the disc golf area, so there wasn't really any risk of hitting walkers or kids on the play ground. the back 9 did have a few nice shade trees that people were picnic-ing under, but they were hip to the course and watched out for themselves.

Cons:

This was a nice little course, if anything I can point to as a negative would be that it wasn't terribly challenging, but not every course has to be brutal.

Other Thoughts:

The water level was down while we were there, so I assume it would be a bit more difficult during the rainy season. Overall, we enjoyed this little course while we were in Colorado!

Classic Suburban Denver 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 1, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice neighborhood, feels very homey.

Great open feel. Lots of room for a busy first round of the year.

Very typical use of open space in Denver Metro Area. A low lying patch of land that serves as runoff for storms and floods.

Some longer holes encourage beginners like me to focus on form for maximum distance.

70+ people came out to play on New Year's Day. This is a popular course, and a must-play among the big courses in the region.

Cons:

Wide open space. Few mature trees. I got sunburn from the reflective snow on January 1!

I'd bet, given the general geography of this park, that it is wet and sloppy after a melt or a storm.

Other Thoughts:

The pond was frozen solid today, and many golfers went out to bring errant discs back. There was a good flow of water in and out of the pond, though, and I worry that the ice may be less forgiving on other days.

Fun little public park. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 15, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Good, full color map near the practice basket. Encased in a polyurethane case to protect it from the elements.
-Practice basket with plenty of room around it to warm up on those long putts
-Over half the holes have water in play, and except for hole 13, have very good basket positions to make them challenging yet not fustrating
-A few open bomber holes for the big arms to enjoy as well
-Tee number and distance carved directly into the back of the teepad, so no need to worry about vandalism

Cons:

-Biggest gripe is the teepads. The have little channels grooved into them, I assume to funnel off water, bit makes run ups feel weird.
-While the layout is mostly intuitive, the lack of teesigns can make a few holes hard to find
-Tons of goose and duck feces on the teepads, sidewalks and baskets. Not Mich anyone can do a out that, but its really gross.
-Aside from the water, there's really no other obstacles, just a few random trees, but none that require any true shot shaping

Other Thoughts:

Super busy park, which is a good thing for the sport. But its best to come with a group because, even in the winter months, you'll probably be waiting around a bit. Lots of non-disc golf traffic as well so as always, be respectful, and you're better off yelling "heads up!" Than "fore!" As they wont know otherwise.

Overall, a fun park that is pretty average. The water makes it pretty cool and adds more challenge than most park courses usually have. Begginers and intermediates are the target audience, but advanced players will ti.d some fun here too.
FAVORITE HOLE: 2; a 250 foot straight shot across the pond. A super fun little ace run that I hit chains on multiple times. Just a cool hole all around.
LEAST FAVORITE HOLE: 13; a long hole known locally as "The Island." Big arms may like it, but for my skill level it was just a stupid pain in the butt.

Awesome Tee Pads! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 1, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Expo Park DGC is set in a nice large green, sprawling park with lots of water hazards to throw over, around and next too. The tee pads are the best around. They are big and grippy with the hole # and distance molded right into the concrete-first rate all the way. The baskets are DGA with red numbers facing the correct way (that is towards the tee pad). They are lined in concrete pavers which is another nice touch here. Although the course is generally a recreational level course, # 13 is kind of a monster. It's 354' with a carry partly over the lake to a basket which sits on a small peninsula of land . That hole would challenge most any player. Myself, I kinda like # 12. It's a 267' downhill throw over the lake around some trees. It's somewhat scary looking at first but after throwing it the first time I realized that it's actually a fairly easy little hyser ACE run. There are quite a few fun little ACE runs on this course including, # 10, 12, 16 (195') and 18 (210').

Cons:

The lake is disgusting and smelly. I'm glad I didn't throw any discs in it. The ditch doesn't seem to be much better. I played in July during the middle of a string of 100 degree days and the lake was way down. I'm sure it would way more menacing in the springtime. The course was fairly boring in places. I would lose some discs here, for sure.

Other Thoughts:

Other than the monster hole (#13) I see this course as a decent recreational course. The lake and creek certainly add to the challenge/danger/thrill. I'd like to play it again and improve my score. It's a course where knowing how much room behind the basket would most certainly help you. I gave the lake a wide berth whenever possible. I didn't want to feed that green disc eating monster.

Dangerous, but fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 2, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Long open drives.
Easy to get to and find.
The concrete tee pads have both the hole number and hole length molded into it.
Trees on some holes add a little bit of a non-disc-eating challenge which was nice.
There is detailed course map at the start.
Beautiful course.

Cons:

The course hugs the ponds and the small stream. This creates a huge potential to lose discs. To compound this, the ponds look filthy, mitigating any desire one might have to recover discs (though there's apparently a local black market for discs recovered by people willing to brave the water, according to the review by jordonashton, and I think I saw one such "swamp person").

Although I said the course is beautiful, the ponds make it smelly.

I threw across the stream on 15, but the stream is too far and the rocks were to slippery to jump across, so I decided to wade across rather than the long walk around. I threw into the stream on 16, and it was just far enough in that I had to step in to get my disc. The stream was pure mud in that area and there was rusty metal on the shore right where I entered.

Because the tee pads are numbered, there are no standing signs to mark the start of a hole. This caused a little difficulty finding the start of 3 and 8 for my first time through. I had the foresight to take a picture of the course map which I had to refer to in these instances.

I chose to play very safe, choosing to drive wide of the water and then approach the water with more controlled shots. The little tree just on the left at the end of the tee pad on #2 made throwing a powerful-yet-safe shot very difficult.

Other Thoughts:

Use your phone to take a picture of the course map on your first go round if no one in your party knows the course as some of the hole transitions aren't obvious, and there aren't any above-ground signs to help.

I wrote more about the cons to explain my opinions more. The pros are pretty self explanatory. I feel that the pros and cons balance each other, creating a dangerous (in the sense of losing a disc), but fun experience.
