Firestine , Flat And Fast 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Firestine is a small neighborhood park in Findlay, Ohio . The park is landlocked by a stream on one end and the neighborhoods around the others . I did not see a bathroom here .and the parking lot is very small .This is a 9 hole course.
The Equipment . There is a tall kiosk with a course map at the parking lot . The tee pads are cement with encased brick. It is a little short, maybe 7' X 3 1/2 ' ( no run-ups ) but at least it looks real nice . The signage at each hole is good with all of the necessary information . The baskets are Yellow banded Discatchers . and are easy to spot . There is a putting basket near the 1st tee .
The Landscape . The course was mowed and well cared for when I was here . There was actually a city crew that was trimming and putting mulch down at some of the bushes .
This park style course is as flat as its parking lot . There is a creek that runs close to the back or the course and even though you don't throw across it , it might come into play on holes 1 ( if you overshoot ) 7 behind and to the left of basket , and 9 all the way down the left fairway . Trees are not in abundance here , but it looks like they have plnted some bushes and trees to affect fairways on maybe #2 , #4 and #5 and #8
The Highlights . This is not the type of course that shines with great holes . #2's trees and bushes have shot up enough that if you don't have the arm to go up top , you have to S shot your drive to the basket . #8 is the longest hole ( 400' ) and has a couple of fairway trees . I liked hole #7 . Even though it is only 212' ,, the basket is protected by a row of mature trees in front of the basket , and has water right behind it . It is the nicest looking hole on this course .
The Time : It took me a little over 25 minutes to play here . A group of 4 will take less than 50 minutes .
Disc Risk : Low , if you make sure that you take to creek out of play . Past reviewers say they have gone in after their discs , I don't know . No heavy brush here . The course is well taken care of .
The course plays fast and flat and is easy on the legs . A great learning tool for the newbie .

Cons:

#1 Safety . This course is so compacted in this park , I can't imagine that a kid running around , especially on #'s 1 ,2 & 9 , might make a carnival target at the disc golf Shooting Gallery if the park is crowded .
#2 Challenge . This course is very easy . Even though there is obvious planting going on , there just isn't enough for expanding the holes or putting alternate tee pads in . All of the holes are straight ahead , no doglegs or benders .
Remember to cross the parking lot to go from #2 basket to #3 tee pad . Everything else is right in front of you .or just off to the side . I wish here was a Port O Let on the premises , or a shelter or picnic tables after a round .

Other Thoughts:

The course cannot improve on distance , but it seems like it is trying to make the course harder in adding obstacles . I couldn't give it less than a 2.0 , just because of the effort involved in this small neighborhood park . Above average equipment , dedicating most of the park to disc golf ,,,,, This would be a great warm up course for nearby Riverbend or Panther 335 .
My Recommendation : Great for Newbies and families and dates . This course seems constructed for them . Also an okay play for locals and 1 discers . . Just practice for intermediates and up . Not enough park to safari the holes much . This course is barely off I-75 and a fantastic leg stretcher for the traveler and an easy pick-up ( grab with Riverbend ) for the Course Collector . Otherwise , don't go far out of your way , but if driving though , and just needing that disc golf fix , Give It A Look if you like .

Fun 9 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 18, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

A short, decent course to get the hang of throwing discs for people like me who are getting more into disc golf and learning what discs to use and when. Clean, safe park! Had fun the times I played it and was never really busy.

Cons:

Most trees have now been cut down since they were Ash's so it's wide open.
