Simple, but nice 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 15, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Good for begginers who are just starting or have some practice
-There are some fun obstacles that are placed in the park in some holes
-Easy not to get lost in this place since its pretty much open areas
-Some wide areas good for long drives

Cons:

-Its not close to my house, so car is really the only way to get there.
-Theres a hole with some water that you have to throw your disc across, its not to wide, but make sure you throw hard anyway

Other Thoughts:

-There are friendly people at this park as far as Ive met.
-In the park a baseball diamond about in the middle and right near one of the holes.
-Also since Ive only been there once, I cant say for sure, but it doesnt seem to get overly crowded.

lamar par 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 4, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

you have the opportunity to stretch your arm out there. at times you can find that there is only a few people playing at 1 time on the course.

Cons:

like the rest of grand rapids it's not very technical. there is 2 holes with baseball field next to it and if you hit a home run there is no easy way in.

Lamar 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 24, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A nice quick round if pressed for time as this is a 9 hole course. Cement tee pads with hole number and par listed. Park is well maintained. Some short holes to warm up with, ace and birdie opportunities. Holes 3,4,5 play with a creek and pond, but avoidable water hazards. Hole 9 plays with a pond on your left, but able to throw away from as well.

Cons:

Sometimes crowded with first few holes in main picnic area. Some areas of goose poop on some water holes.

Other Thoughts:

good for a fast round, would like to see more holes added. If you play par as listed on the pads, won't be too much trouble for you. I played as everything par 3, and hole number 7 is a challenge as it is over 600 ft in distance.

Lamar 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 5, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Very nice park. easy to navigate. a lot of short holes combined with a very long driving hole. can quickly play a round. concrete pads with par and distance written on pad. Water comes into play on a few holes to make some shots challenging.

Cons:

Pedestrian traffic on the first few holes. one day i even saw someone set up his grill right on the tee pad of the first hole.can be really very busy on weekends in the summer.

Other Thoughts:

Its a really nice park. easy to play a quick nine holes. Hole 7 has been shortened up to midway behind ballfield. It is definitely parable now. I work nearby and can stop by and play a quick round on my way home.

Lunch Break 9 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 24, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Well laid our course that is challenging at times. Fairly short with the exception of hole 7. Great course for the beginner to intermediate player. Watch out for the water, it does come into play at times.

Cons:

Only 9 holes,

Other Thoughts:

I love the 9th hole

Greenest Course Around 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 11, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Good variety of distances. Ace runs on holes 1, 2, 5, 6, and 8. "Two drive approach" needed on hole 7. Only a few tree obstacles. Water obstacles are present, yet avoidable. Long sticks are usually available to retrieve wayward shots, and the baseball fences aren't too high to jump over.

Since the installation of the "kids water playground" on the north side of the park, a "goose cannon" has kept most of the geese away, which means WAY less goose droppings compared to years past.

Cons:

People.

WARNING: DO NOT go to Lamar park on a Summer weekend. Chances are people will be using the baskets to anchor pinata strings, or move the picnic table directly into the fairway, or run to your disc after you tee off and try to throw it back. Best to go to Lamar during the work week.

Also, I find it easier to park by the tennis courts and get the walking out of the way early, as a "warm-up." That way after you are done you can leave right away.

Other Thoughts:

Shooting par on #7 and #9 are the main challenges here, but can be done. Shooting under par on the entire 9 constitutes a good game.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 2, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Well maintained, wide open course. A couple of holes with water but easy to avoid. An excellent course for beginners yet still fun for experienced players. Only took 50 minutes to play with 3 people, perfect if you're short on time and want to get a round in.

Cons:

Only 9 holes. After finishing number 9 you have a long walk back to your car.

Other Thoughts:

Would be nice to have a full 18. Seems like plenty of space available in the park.
