Shady, Neighborhood Pitch and Putt With Panoramic Finish

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 11, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This short course makes most of space in small park.
+ nicely shaded course
+ well maintained
+ good use of trees and water as obstacles
+ good course for beginners
+ usually uncrowded

Cons:

There are a few rough areas to traverse around course.
- some rough spots in trees and brush on several holes just beyond fairways
- occasional foot traffic on holes #2-3 from local residents cutting through course
- minor inconvenience to cross spillway at start and creek between #7-8

Other Thoughts:

INFO
Dedicated disc golf area in private neighborhood park bordering local high school follows a path that winds through trees, around a creek (barely in play) and beside a small pond on final hole. Seven of the nine holes on this short course are under 250 ft. in length. Plenty of shade provides relief during hot summer months. Water usually only comes into play on the first and last hole, though standing water after rains pools in areas near creek. The walk between holes #7-8 requires going around or crossing creek.

EVAL
This beginner-friendly nine-hole course nestles into a neighborhood park along a trail cut through trees and creek debris. It offers mostly tricky pitch-and-putt opportunities for advanced players with good use of trees as obstacles, especially just beyond the tee on several holes. Most holes are set up to favor RHBH throws. Terrain is lightly wooded, cleared paths interspersed with a few grassy fairways and slight elevation changes on two holes. The last hole with its picturesque pond and fountain to the left of an open hillside fairway offers the only real opportunity to throw for distance off the tee down towards a protected green surrounded by a ring of trees.

NOTE
This course (and park), an amenity of The Wellington of Flower Mound Residential Association, is a private facility for the exclusive use of Wellington residents and their guests.

LAYOUT
(Course starts in woods beyond tennis courts and across small spillway.) Opening hole sits close to small pond which threatens to sink throws veering too far left. Holes #2-5 play along northern border of park with homes and high school property fenced off on the left of fairways which are lined with trees except #3 which is fairly open. Hole #6 in corner of park threatens creek OB for shots thrown too far past basket. Thick foliage borders hole #7 near washout area beside creek. (Long walk to next hole on other side of creek. Recommend climbing hill to #9 tee and walking back to #8 tee.) Next to last hole is a shaded uphill shot under a canopy of trees. Final hole throws past pond on left and across hillside down to trees circling green.

Pleasant Stroll Through the Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 8, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Wellington of Flower Mound has a little bit of exclusivity to it. The park is generally supposed to be in use only by residents, but it did not seem to be an issue to play if you don't make a fool out of yourself.

Being "private" and "exclusive" it almost gives a country club feel. The holes are short, the grass is well manicured, and the park is taken care of. There are nice tee signs at each hole and small, yet adequate concrete tees. You won't be trekking through mud or climbing up hills. Instead, you will be treated by a pleasant stroll through the park. All you really need it a short fairway driver or less disc than that.

Being so short, there is potential to shoot really well, but there are enough obstacles that shooting 9 down is not the norm at all. Hole 9 is the only hole that you really will be throwing a long shot as it is the only hole over 300'. It is the only hole with slight elevation, and it is the only hole where the man made lake comes into play.

Cons:

The walk from hole 7 to hole 8 is wonky at best. There really is no clear trail from basket 7. I walked around to hole 9 then cut through the woods that way to get to hole 8, which seemed to work great.

A few holes play precariously close to the neighbors' backyard. A nooby RHBH hyzer can easily find the backyard on hole 2. I wouldn't recommend jumping the fence; remember, you technically are not supposed to be here.

No holes really stick out in my mind as really awesome holes. Hole 9 was the only longer hole and all the others sort of blur together as relatively, short, easy holes.

Other Thoughts:

Honestly, this is a solid course. My expectations were low with it being a private course, but it turned out to exceed my expectations. The holes really are not going to wow you in any way, but there is obvious love put into the park.

Neighborhood course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 13, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Course map by hole 1
- Nice accurate tee signs
- Concrete tees
- Shouldn't lose any discs unless if it is a poor throw into the pond on hole 9 or into someone's backyard on hole 2
- Course is mostly wooded, only holes 8 and 9 have elevation change

Cons:

- Short and easy
- The course doesn't force you to use many shots
- Getting to hole 8 can be difficult for first timers
- Thorn bushes

Other Thoughts:

- Private course hidden behind the fitness center, but no one will bother you or ask you if you belong to the HOA
- Only need a putter and a mid range to play the course
- Course will stay muddy for about a week after measurable rain

Short, but tricky 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 19, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Clean park, with nice neighborhood scenery
- Variety of short, but very tight lines, it will definitely test your accuracy if not your power
- Nice concrete teepads
- Good signage, easy to navigate without a map

Cons:

- Hole 2 is a little close to the neighborhood, my friend hit a gust a wind and hit a house. The lady was nice though and gave him his disc back without any flack.
- The little creek is pretty stagnant and dank

Other Thoughts:

- If you want to improve your short game and accuracy, this is a good place to play, if not, it's just another notch in the belt
- Hole 9 is definitely 329', I google earth'd it

fun private course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 23, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

-fun layout in a decently large neighborhood park
-concrete tees, brand new DGA baskets, nice signs
-nice mix of short wooded holes and slightly longer semi-open holes
-variety of shots needed but especially accuracy
-great beginner course for the community and school next door
-course map at start

Cons:

-creek looks prone to flooding
-thorny schule around holes 4-7
-poison ivy near the creek
-the path from 7-8 is muddy and steeply inclined in one spot, very slippery
-seems to be some trash accumulating already, hope it's not the discers
-needs more trash cans (there are 2: one at tee 4, one after hole 9
-hole 2 has backyards off the left of the fairway. noob-hyzers could easily go over the fence

Other Thoughts:

***Directions***
If you park at the athletic center on Furlong Dr, go between that building and the tennis courts and cross the concrete path to the other side of the pond. First hole in the trees just past the course map.
***

The course is set in a small neighborhood park in a private community. The park was bigger than I expected it to be and has a large man-made pond (in play on hole 9). The course is really well setup with quality baskets, signs, and concrete tees.

The course plays around the back area of the park. Holes 1, 5, 6 play through narrow woods. Holes 4 and 7 are hyzers. Holes 3 and 9 are mostly open and holes 2 and 8 are semi-open. There is a cool overhand window on hole 8.

If you aren't comfortable parking at the main lot, the park looks to be accessible from the back off Burlington Dr. The entrance should put you right next to the tee for hole 2.

The course is easy but fun. The holes are short enough to be beginner friendly on the wooded holes and mostly short in general. The holes are also tricky enough that int/adv players can make some easy mistakes.

A great beginner course for the community. A fun 9 holes if you live or happen to be nearby. Nothing to write home about otherwise.
