9 Holes Will Leave You Pleasantly Suprised 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 25, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Very well maintained 9 hole course. Good mix of holes. The tees are all the same size throughout and have the hole number on them. DISCatchers on every hole. All the signs are in decent readable condition. And the park has water faucets all over the place. The course is in a public park but it played smooth without too many issues. The 1st tee and a course map are located to the right of the big pool building with the red roof. The 1st hole does have an elevation change with the tee being up higher than the basket. And it is crossed by a creek that may be trouble for some. It was dry when we played but showed signs of water recently. The 2nd hole has a road along it's left side and a basket in the trees. After 2 go back and left to find the 3rd tee above the big fireplace. After 3 go around the building to the right to find #4. This hole is a tight drive. #5 does have a gazeebo that rents out for weddings, which may close this hole on some days. After #5 go right across the street to the left of the tower for #6's tee. This hole also has a good elevation change and the creek. #7 is simple but the wind can come into play. After #7 continue in the direction of play and go up to the path. You should see a lot of green poles. #8's tee is behind these. #8 could have issues with picnickers. This hole shoots into a tight little mini forest. #9 does play blind. There is a big sign for kites (birds) on the path. The basket is behind and down from this sign by about 30'. A very fun 9 hole course. If you are passing through make sure you play it. If you come solely for the course, play it a few times.

Cons:

We played at about 10 in the morning and still had to deal with some sprinklers. The wind can be an issue anytime of day here. Some holes are deep grass and others are hard packed field so choose your discs wisely. Skip shots work on some and die on others. We had a little issue finding 8, but not bad. Our 2nd round had people in 8's fairway eating lunch. If you have a spotter or go look at 9 first, it shouldn't be an issue. As we were leaving the park was getting very busy. This course is in Lamar, which isn't the most atractive place to visit, but the course did surprise me.

Other Thoughts:

The course is next to a pool and a skatepark. The kites (birds) can be seen flying everywhere. The are numerous photo ops and cool picnic areas here. After #5 the tower is a cool landmark to check out. I enjoyed Willow Creek and hope you guys do too!
