Second throws

Why? Today I was playing in a group of five. Two new guys. Now I'm used to one of my buddies throwing a second shot about 30% of the time if he miffs one, but these guys were doing it on every hole! I understand an errant drive but come on. Nobody feels like waiting for you to see if your second shot is better than your first... on every hole.

/rant. Going back out to play now :p

We have always called it "The All Important Second Throw"!

For a casual beer round, the group I usually play with allows one mulligan from the tee. If you're out just to have fun, I thats pretty reasonable, but every hole, thats ridiculous.

I'll occasionally throw two, especially on the last hole of my home course when it's in one of the two short positions.

But two off each tee?
Maybe next time you'll speak up and let the "new" guys in on something we call etiquette.
Just explain to them that when playing with others that it's kind of rude and way too time consuming to be throwing two off EVERY tee.
I've realized that "new" players are usually pretty receptive to me giving them pointers, whether it's their game, or on etiquette.
Don't be afraid to speak up when you see some douchebaggery going down! ;)

The only time I every throw two disc when playing in a group is if I have a disaster first throw. If I am by my self and there is no one behinde me that is another story. I play a lot of two disc play the worst disc rounds when playing solo.

it's a group thing... thankfully, the guys I play with are all relatively considerate and I am usually the one with the occassional extra throw off the tee.. and then we come to some of the empty your bag holes where we all get down.

Lol, they were new to my group. One has been playing 5-6 years, and he says he plays in tourneys. We only played 18 holes with them so I just sucked it up since I'm not sure if I'll be playing him again.

it occasionally happens in my rounds but mostly when im by myself and definitely when theres no one else behind me. i feel these second throws are good for learning how to correct errant first throws and are more helpful than going on without correcting a sh*t throw. but in groups, thats one of my biggest pet peeves for sure:wall:

you know I thought this was gonna be about second shot strategies.

I was behind a woman who shot 3 at every tee... like it was normal... none were good.

Throw as many as you want as long as no one's waiting behind you and nobody in your group minds.

I agree i do this for a couple reasons while playing solo 1 to fix a little thing on the first throw, 2 to kill time when im waiting on a group with groups in front of me or they won't let me play thru or 3 to try and find a different line (anny vs hyzer or through the gap)

Playing in a group I only do it when i have an awful throw, or the rest of the group wants to throw a second one.

Also the locals in Springfield normally throw 2 off the first tee play which ever you want

This^^^

i was behind a group of 2 who each had 3 discs. they each threw all 3 from the tee on every hole and played each one from where it lied on every hole. i finally just walked up on em and played through.

i do however throw a second one from time to time and today i threw a cubby ace. it didnt count but it felt nice. im fine with throwing multiples as long as you arent holding anyone up.

I always seem to throw almost two rounds during a round by myself but yeah, with others would be no fun waiting. Or with others behind you.

I threw 2 or 3 drives off nearly every tee today. Because me and my fiancee were behind a group of 3 the whole way who were sooooooooo sloooooooooooow. One shot each for them, and they were much better players than us, but they were maximizing the time on each hole as much as possible without it being obvious that they were being intentional DBs. Seriously, if you've got a pair behind you, and they're each playing 3 discs on every hole, and they still get to the tee before your threesome has taken their second shots, on a course with hardly any trees, and thus no time spent looking for discs, you're doing something wrong. The thing you are doing wrong is not offering the pair a chance to play through.

I will throw several from the tee often if I am by myself and nobody is behind me.
If there are groups or players behind me I will
A: Play one disc only on every throw, or
B: Let them play through and continue practicing

If I am with a group, depending on the group, I will
A: Occasionally throw an extra shot and I'll announce "Is it okay if I throw an extra one from the tee?" if I know the guys in the group don't mind, or
B: Play it straight up tourney style if I'm with certain people that never throw Mulligans.

If I play a sunrise round with noone behind, I will go 3 from the tee to get the arm juices movin. Other than that, I think if you are not holding anybody else up, a 2nd can be very helpful, as long as it's not just an angry huck you don't even follow

Yeah, thats what I thought too! No muligans. Throw one drive on every hole, ESPECIALLY IF SOMEONE IS WAITING TO THROW. If you want to practice drives, go to a soccer field or something!
