Hey guys, I'm very new to the sport (<100 throws/24 holes) and sort of barely know what I'm doing...so I wanted to ask for some advice. Everything from rules to general play to etiquette practice to anything. I really don't want to pick up bad habits either...are there any videos on youtube our something? Should I go to a football field and figure our how far I throw? Thanks

Welcome to the sport. Best advice I got is ditch the Groove and stick with the Leopard, Shark, and Aviar and get to know them. Disc down before going after the high speed drivers. Best of luck with you!

here's my rundown of forum advice for new members, it never changes.

1. get a majestic avatar that sparkles in the wind (so far you've failed at that one)
2. learn to use the search function
3. what was 3?
4. beware the prerube
5. ignore new013 at all costs, even if he's on fire.

Best adivice I can give is listen to the advice!
Ditch the groove, no u don't need an aerobie EPIC, and stay away from high speed drivers for now

Welcome to the sport! Even though new013 told you to ignore new013, don't ignore new013. At least not the part about learning to use the search feature. It will save you a lot of time reading post about how you should learn to use the search feature. Some people on here will rip you a new one for starting threads like "what's the difference between champion and star plastic?" or "what's better, a Roc or a Buzzz?" But while I'm on the subject, get a Buzzz! Finally, don't give up when you get frustrated, cuz you WILL get frustrated.

Dont worry about throwing far!!!!!!

If you can throw straight 150' you will be better than if you can throw 500' somewhere over there after a huge S flight. You will not understand nor be able to perform some of the motions of throwing far for a while(not throwing with your arm). Just try and throw smooth, distance will come as you learn and improve your form.

Leopard, shark, and aviar will cover you far into your first year. The only disc I would add would be a Buzzz or Roc. Stay with DX or Pro D plastic for a while as it will teach you what discs will do after you break them in.

Enjoy the game, have fun, and try to find a local club to get involved with.

Git rid of the groove and stick with the other 3, go to your local course and start playing with guys, most will help out and lead you into the right direction, and learn how to putt! Putting is the most important and hardest thing to get good at!

how giant is your monitor that you can see the discs in his avatar?

for those of us who don't have monitors the size of the sun or vision of the gods tell us what you throw, how far you throw it and where you're having problems in your game.

You don't know rule 3? Even Joe Dirt knows rule 3.

Thanks for everything so far. I understand about putting the grove in the back burner but I actually like it. I'm not sure how far I can throw all four but I guess I could go to a football field and see. I can their it decent. I usually get to a par 3 in 2 but putting sucks. I'm too light with it. Try not to be a puss. I think for me imac learning the disc and how they bend, fade, and whatever. I can tell a big difference from tuesday with a driver and a midi. I'm really enjoying it though. Don't care if I get spectacular...just want to have fun. I will work on the leopard and set the groove in the back pocket. Well update you guys and keep reading your comments. Thanks

Find your local league and play in it. The best/fastest way to get better is to play with better players.

I assume you play or have played at cedars of lebanon. It is definitely a good course to begin playing on as it teaches you a lot about technique and hitting the right lines. If you're in the Murfreesboro area, Barfield is also a great beginner course as it's pretty open, clearly marked, and you can see all the baskets from around the tee pad, there are 2 ponds though. Having fun is always a good goal. If you're interested in local league stuff, check out: http://www.tndiscgolf.com/

Thanks emerica...i haven't played lebanon...I've just played two rivers. That's because my buddy lives close and I grew up over there...my parents live close by and always have seen it but just never did anything about it. I am playing 7 oaks today and will be venturing out soon. Thanks for the info...can't thank you enough.

Welcome to the sport man. Definitely get yourself a buzzz, it really helps. And practice putting every day you can. 50 throws from 15 feet out. You will see improvement in no time!

Let's just stop telling every new person to get a buzzz, Let them figure it out.
