Roc V. Buzzz

Roc or Buzzz?

I'm a Roc guy, but keep a Buzzz in the trunk for long wooded courses.

They're just totally different discs. The best analogy I've heard is that the Roc is a midrange that thinks it's a putter; the Buzzz is a midrange that think's it's a driver.

That's a great analogy...captures my experience with roc vs. buzz perfectly. I have a Buzz SS and had to remove it from the bag. I had a difficult time judging distance with my Buzz. Often, the disc was going further than I intended to throw. The Roc on the other hand is much more controllable for me. I have a champion, super, and a few KC's. 9/10, I throw the KC's.

I can't decide :\

Presently I'm carrying two Rocs (E* and KC pro) and an ESP FLX Buzzz. I find reason to fly them all.

Hope that helps!
:D

What would I do with all the extra space in my bag if I didn't carry 4 Rocs?

I carry 6 rocs in my bag so I am going to have to say Roc is a better all around disc for me. I started with the Roc when i found the game, bc everyone said it was the best. Well, i found after a while that it was just too understable for me. So after 6 months with it, i give it up and switch to a Buzzz(1st run), i did not realize the 1st run was so much better than the others. but i rode on the Buzzz train for a while until i lost my buzzz and when i found out it was $80 to replace, i tried a regular buzzz, and i am sure most of you buzzz lovers know, the first runs were way superior to the others. So, i decided to switch back to the Roc and once i figured out the whole hyser flip thing and how much spin to put on them, it was a definite game changer, now i know i will never return to "THE DARKSIDE".

In my bag:
2 stages of beat 11xKC- 1 that goes straight and fades a little at the end, 1 that when thrown with hyser goes straight, and goes right a bit at the end. 1 9xKC that is totally beat but when thrown with hyser stays straight the entire flight. 2 stages of 06 star baby Roc, 1 that is now a money disc for
350' with a slight fade at the end, and 1 new that is all fade from the jump.
And last but not least is my beat to dog crap old school big bird stamp Ontario Roc that if thrown perpendicular will flip up and still go right, which is good for some of the really wooded shots here in Cedar Hill.

So, in my opinion ROC! But i think my signature says it all lol!

So you won't throw an $80 buzzz because it is too much to replace, but you will throw CE discs and KC TBs and 9x and other costly Rocs?

Yes, because when i first started it was because I was spending too much money playing regular golf, so i found this sport. Once, I found my game, i realized that discs really do matter. And the good ones you will have to pay for. Now i have a collection of 40 11x's 5 10x's 2 9x's 1 8x, and almost every CE ROC ever made. Atleast one from every year. (except 2010)

lol. hey can you tell me the difference between a first run buzzz, second run buzzz, 2nd first run buzzz, wasp tooled buzzz, bar stamped buzzz, ghost stamped buzzz, buzzz SS, midnight buzzz, cryztal FLX buzzz, photon buzzz, holiday buzzz, sparkle buzzz, original run buzzz ss, and a glow buzzz?

EXACTLY lol! Too funny!

I'm doing a research-ish paper on this. I favor the Roc but would love to hear what you got to say. Tell me about plastics, life time, longivity of a plastic, break-in time, and other aspects.

Plastics : only two come to mind. ESP and star. I wouldnt even let my dog eat out of this d-plastic crap.

life time : Well i heared that a roc can hold forever. I tend to switch all my discs every other year, else I can not throw anything but the most ****ed up understable stuff any more.

longlivity : answered in the two paragrapohs before.

break-in-time : I dont want my disc to break in. I like it how it flies out of the box. If not, I would buy a different disc.

addendum : the discussion is so pointless. It's just personal preference, You can get good with both discs. YOu can become pro-good with both discs. It's not the disc, it's how much you practice.

ps : i use the buzzz. Could throw the Roc, sure, but why would I switch ? Midrange is midrange, i dont need 100 different ones. Work with what you got. The work is what's important.

Yeah, the difference is plastic they're made in and a couple different stamps. (seriously, you can't start listing different stamps and asking whats different about the disc.) The only different molds are Buzzz and Buzzz SS. other than that its different plastics. A Buzzz mold made in different plastics, just like any other disc. Rocs have a dozen different molds in several different plastics. No consistency. If you can't get consistency from from a disc its not worth buying, much less throwing.

The Roc is a fine disc, and it works for a lot of people. I feel that the main advantage of the Roc is how useful it is for different shots throughout it's wear cycle.

But personally, I like the Buzzz. I prefer Z plastic, and this is the plastic the Buzzz was made to be molded in. I like that it is a very flat disc, and no bead is more comfortable for me. I don't like to cycle discs, so I like that the Buzzz will break in a bit at first but then hold that state for a long time. It flies flat and straight, and is good for low ceiling shots that I throw a lot. But even though it excels at striaght shots, I find that I can work different lines with it as well.

...KC roc in star does not make sense? Well than explain to me why it is available in dx, pro, r-pro, and glow?...

A "KC Roc" doesn't just mean it has Ken Climo's signature on it - a "KC Roc" only comes in KC Pro plastic.

What's this "roc" thing people keep talking about? :|

One method for studying Roc vs Buzzz

One way to study the Roc versus Buzzz paradigm is to go out and soley focus on aceing holes that are around 200 - 275 feet.

Ace runs are a different animal, and it takes some getting used to throwing into the chains versus laying up under the basket. When you try to throw into the chains, you have to throw it effectively 10-15% harder/better/smoother to get it to carry into the chains versus descending well before the chains and skipping or landing under the basket.

Instead of accepting the usual disc golf slop of stopping within 20 feet of the basket and putting, actually hitting the chains just right so the disc drops into the basket leaves little room for error and is a great test of an approach disc, once you start focusing on ace runs, you will quickly start dropping some of your approach discs from the lineup, because a little too overstable or a little too flippy will make it way too hard to hit metal with any regularity.

Spend some time trying it and you will see it takes you into a different space where the discs real potential is tested.

The local club in my area had their ace pool go up to $ 314, and they wanted to clear it out, so 6 weeks ago they held an ace round at a local course where all 18 holes are short, mostly flat, though some have slight inclines and others slight declines - attached picture shows the results, at least what I have left from my winnings -

So. All of my previous - and insightful - THREAD RELATED posts have been deemed inappropriate. So I will just say that the buzz is obviously a far superior disc(my opinion). If you don't realize this, you aren't an idiot per say. You just haven't risen to the intellectually/physically/monetarily superior level that buzz throwers are clearly living on - see pic link in above post. Buzz throwers make the dough, and also are more attractive to the ladies. FACT.
