How do you use, or do you even use, your Buzzz in strong winds?

I love the Buzzz disc. I have had one for almost as long as I have been playing.

The only reason I took it out of my bag is on some really windy rounds, the disc just flipped over like crazy. The ROc held up a lot better, so I just stayed with the Roc, even on calm days, just to get very familiar with the disc, so when the windy days would come, I would be prepared, or at least have a feel for the disc.

Now that I have a established and comfortable feel with the Roc, I do miss the extra distance, straighter lines, and the feel of the disc in my hand.

I was wondering, was I just missing some technique with the disc on those windy days, or is it just not made for those duties, and that is why the Wasp and Drone exist?

I like throwing it downwind. Going upstream or facing a crosswind I haven't had too much trouble, just need to adjust. Of course, wind here is a relative term too. What we consider a strong wind in New England is a gentle breeze to some out in the midwest. If it's really gusting, I'd probably just throw a Drone instead.

I use my Buzzz into the wind. Just got to power it up a bit more and keep it flat and I have no problems with it. I sacrifice some distance though.

The only wind that gives any "trouble" for the buzzz is a headwind. So the answer is "maybe".

If there's a strong enough headwind that I need a dead straight shot and even my glo buzzz won't work I'll definitely pull out an OS mid. It's all dependent upon the situation but the buzzz works in some winds not others IMO

Use a Drone or Gator. I was throwing Drones for awhile, but just switched to the Gator a couple weeks ago. Loving it so far. Keep the Buzzz in your bag, it's great for tailwind shots. Get it high and watch it glide. Thing of beauty.

For light headwinds, a really stable Buzzz (I use either a glow z or a pink barstamp that is really stable) work fine. Especially at 80% power or so.

For really stiff headwinds I usually finesse drivers. Beat Pred at 70% or so, usually. Or a newer Pred on a hyzer line.

Yea, I really like the Buzzz (173 esp), and I do not think carrying one would be a problem now. It is just easy for me for a while, to get confused, especially when you carry discs that overlap. I like the Buzzz so much I will just grab it and throw it sometimes, without thinking, and that got me into a lot of higher than should be scores. Now I check the wind, whether I need to or not, on every shot, just the habit makes my thought process much better. I have been having trouble with left to right shots with my Rocs, RHBH, and the Buzzz was much easier for me for that.

Frankly, on a clam day, I can take 1 disc out of my bag, preferably a driver, and play about as well as having all of my bag with me, because I am fairly good at shaping shots. But on a windy day, I have taken too many beatings and I have learned my lesson, let the disc do the work. That is when my bag is really used. Calm days, it is just a weight to carry around.

i would have something to say if this thread was called "how do you use your 'roc' in strong winds?":p... wait a min:|

something more stable would definitely suit the conditions better e.g. gator, drone even a wasp

i have a 180g pink z buzzz which works ok in windy conditions. however if its really howling i bump up to a drone or wasp type disc.

I have held a Wasp next to a Roc, and they are basically the same thing I assume. I really like the Blaze by Gateway, but it doesn't have the glide of the Roc. I will get a Drone sometime and find out how well that could work for me.

My biggest wind killer is what you would take totally for granted on a calm day. I can be 50-70ft out of a wide open basket, and throw my Roc on a hyzer really just trying to dig it into the ground near the basket when the wind is howling, and sometimes the wind will gust and throw it 20-30ft higher, and make it land much longer and farther left than I want. Do not take me wrong, I seriously need to learn how to read the conditions better, but it really aggravates the crap out of me that I can throw bombs into the wind with fairly good accuracy, because I am not super concerned with disc distance. But the 50-100ft shots make me sweat bullets. It is not a solid consistent wind that bothers me, but the gusts that just take you way off track. Drives me nuts.

if you're only about 75-100 ft away from the basket when its windy, you should be throwing a zone. or rhyno. or a wizard even.

The one of the three that I have, the Wizard (e 175), gets thrown around a whole lot more than the Roc. On a calm day, Wizard every time. Even though Wizards are the best wind putter on the market, I have seen them flip over.

I have emptied my bag I do not know how many times in these situations. The only real answer I guess is not the disc, but reading the wind correctly. I have tried Predators, Forces, and my Wizard, all of my OS plastic from this distance. You can know you are facing a headwind, and throw your disc short, knowing the wind is going to pick it up, but sometimes these wind gusts, sudden power ups of wind, just rip the disc 20-30 ft higher in the air then what you want it to be, and it just goes way beyond the basket. I have seen this happen to pros on videos. I saw it happen to David Feldberg 2 holes in a row, he was mad, really *expressing* himself, but really, what can you do? He threw great shots, then the wind shot his discs up into the air, and he was so far out still facing that same wind that he missed the putt.

It's not the wind, the wind is my friend, but it is the unpredictable gusts that is just driving my short game nuts. Still, along with the Drone, I will look at a Rhyno as well.

Depends on where the wind is coming from. Get a SUPER flat buzzz. Launch it with a hizer and the wind will flatten it out perfectly... if your a discraft player like me on super windy days you should switch to the wasp, or if you have the arm...A flx or z drone

I could see using my Glow-Z Buzzz for a somewhat stiff headwind, yet I usually pull out the Z-Hornet for cases like that. That or my "flat top" Star Rancho Roc. Right now the only Buzzz in my bag is my slightly beat Elite-X. Thing is as straight as an arrow.

My esp buzzz is super straight, and a consistent fade at the end.

I guess I should just hush my mouth because my Roc doesn't flip over in the wind. What more can I ask. I will be putting my Blaze in the bag next windy day I play just to find out if the less glide makes it a better disc in those situations. I would also like to buy a Drone just for this purpose. Find out what works best.

My goal is to find a disc that can take a sudden blast of headwind, and get thrown off the least.

* I am saying headwind, but I am meaning all angles from in front. From behind it is just going to slam the disc into the ground.

Aim left a bit and let it turn. Use a flat heavy Z and the turn will be minimal. Keep it clean and flat and throw with confidence.

Since I live in Texas, it's usually windy. I don't hesitate in carrying discs that overlap. I let the disc do the work on shot shaping.

Stay disciplined and always check for wind. The subtle differences in discs (especially mids) will allow you to shape shots with less effort.

As for carrying extra weight... consider your round a workout. Carrying a little more weight will help to keep you in better shape.
