Indoor Disc Golf?

how is this different from the baskets being on an outdoor course? if anything i would imagine it be easier to steal something that is already outside rather than something inside.

**WARNING I AM A TROLL AND YOU SHOULD IGNORE THIS**

You make a logical point. All I can say is "it's Detroit." Don't get me wrong, I love my city. That said, things of value that are left unattended get stolen. Simple as that. If I were planning an outdoor course within city limits I would have the same concerns and would probably look for options to remove the baskets on a nightly basis.

People are desperate here. Desperate people do some effed-up stuff.

Seems like there's a grip of us in the Midwest that would love the chance to throw some plastic in the next several months without worrying about losing it. Maybe we ought to try to get something together in WI... Maybe a weekend long tournament?

I don't have a location, layout, building, sanctioning, or anything like that. However, it might be an awesome way to get an event in before the snow melts off.

Do you think there's enough interest to get a good sized field? Does anyone know a good TD? heh...

I think it would work as an event. It only costs a few hundred dollars to rent the Metrodome for a day.

Combining these two things would be phenomenal. expensive, but phenomenal. Imagine a "top of the world" shot from the nosebleeds to the 50 yardline. make between the goalposts a mando?

I've been dreaming of that shot all summer! Though I'm not sure if they'd let us throw discs around the place.... As for the expense, maybe we could get some help from the MFA, Discraft, etc? I'm not sure anything like that has ever happened before. Maybe we could even get some pros!

Though I think we might have to keep brainstorming some other possible buildings! Also, I'm not so sure there's a good tee box up in the nosebleads! The only thing I remember about the upper deck are endless stairs.

Look into indoor soccer/football fields in your area that rent out the field for around $100/hr. Practice baskets could be set up with obstacles i.e. field goal posts as mandos.

It'd be more economical just to buy the complex and then rent out the fields that aren't used for disc golf.

I think there would be a lot of interest in the Metro Detroit area, and a TON of empty buildings in various states of decay.

It would have to be pay to play, but if you filled it with leagues, classes and clinics to offset the slow season it could work. Also, if you put in a large proshop/online store (Michigan doesn't seem to have one even though we have two disc manufacturers), you could subsidize your utilities more or less. A liquor license/lounge, other ammenities (putt-putt, indoor go karts, etc...) would make it a real entertainment destination.

Hmmm... lottery pool anyone?

^If I won the lottery and had say half a million $ of it that I wasn't doing anything with, I would be more likely to buy 30 acres of land and build a proper private course than spend on a project like that.

You live in Georgia, so playing indoors probably doesn't have a lot of appeal. It's 30* and windy out today and colder all weekend, AND its the beginning of December so the next 4 months are going to be far worse. A big indoor course would be pretty cool in these parts... ;)

I like the idea of a standardized stadium course. Kind of like a skate park for the x-games or something.

How about mini golf, DG edition? Walls and little water hazards, and the last hole eats your disc, which you get from the people at the desk, just like mini ball golf.

That would be called your house! If I had a mini basket I would set up a 9 holer in my house (I have a small house)!

I love the idea of an indoor course though. I would pay a few bucks to get in and play if it was worth it/terrible outside/last resort.

For Real...an indoor tourney could happen...

Today I toured an old Fruit of the Loom plant in North GA with the local Chamber of Commerce. Once we got into the production area...the first thing I thought was...wow this would be awesome for some indoor disc golf.

I asked the property manager if it would be possible. He said it would if it was for a fund raiser. You can see in the pictures, there is more then enough room. Question is what would it take to get it ready and would you play?

Wow that's awesome. So many pillars tho. If this were in my backyard I'd play it, how cool would it be to say you've played indoors with actually long holes.

You could do a lot with some netting to define fairways, especially with those pillars to hang them from.

im a union roofer here in michigan and most of my work is on the auto plants. some of them are fully capable of having 5000+ft courses with over 60 acres of floorspace, and some of them are non functional. so now we just need a millionaire to help us out. maybe someone should have bought the pontiac silverdome a few years back. i think it sold for less that 600,000.

You would have to use white netting. I work in the paintball industry and I can tell you that the black safety netting indoor will make the place DARK. One of our indoor facilities has black netting, and our other white. There is a huge difference.

Maybe a little black and white in some corners or something sorta like an optical illusion.

Or black just to define the corners.

From one side to the other is at least 1,000 yards. I think you could have a full 18 easy. I think it would take weeks of prep to get it ready.
